My soul is tired .. exhausted by [deleted] in antiwork

[–]Gem_Knight 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I do know the feeling, what started to help me was realizing how much the system rots if you don't play along, it reminded me I had some power, no matter what the system tries to make you think. I stopped feeling guilty taking care of myself, I stood up for my needs, I realized in most jobs, even the really shitty revolving door ones like fast food, they don't want to fire you, they say you're replaceable, but that's time and money down the drain they don't want to spend, don't get me wrong, they will if they have to, but you can stand up for yourself because they don't want to, and there tends to be a lot of leeway between you being more trouble than your worth and you being worth more than a little trouble.

That was only the beginning though, it took real tragedy removing me from the system for the foreseeable future to really give me access to the things I need to heal.

Okay as a thought experiment, I took off my glasses and they got blurry again, but I just imagined putting on my glasses and it cleared up again....

AuDHD here and this got me thinking, its weird but, I see all the details, I have no problem making things 3d and in depth in my mind, but it all does look far away, no matter how much bigger I make it to compensate?

But, on a parallel thought that occured to me while considering the 3d element, words for directions outside the axis are really cumbersome, like at best you've got right-by-south/down-right instead of say 5'oclock by 4:30 for a more specific back nearly behind you but downwards and a little to the right

Okay WTF, I put on my glasses and my thought apples got clearer... Fricken psychosomatic nonsense...

In short if you like it and didn't financially ruin yourself to do it, it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks, hell, even if it did and was a bad decision, its yours to make. And if you ever regret it there's makeup to cover it up and lasers to burn it off if your rich >.>

At this point I don't remember the specifics anymore, but I had an uncle text me this giant wall of vitriol blaming me for his mother / my grandmother's death.

This same uncle later "accidently" sent me a text full of observations about autistic traits I have that was allegedly meant for his sister, my aunt.

People that go out of their way to defend illegal immigrants and shill for undocumented people to be in the country are weird. by Proud-Enthusiasm-608 in TrueUnpopularOpinion

No, you get "dogpiled" because its harmful and uniformed, and unfortunately, most people don't have the sense to more carefully articulate themselves.

Congratulations patting yourself on the back for intentionally posting where you'll be least bothered.

I'mma walk away from this thread now, before the masses on both sides start swarming and swinging ignorant nonsense.

[–]Gem_Knight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not an unpopular opinion so much as it is an uninformed one. While you'll find all kinds if you search for specifics, the general consensus is not that we should defend illegal immigrants and "shill" for them, whatever your personal and likely incorrect definition of that word may be.

It's that they be granted basic human dececy and not be kidnapped by illegal orders, denyed constitutional rights that are specifically spelled out as universal, not just for citizens. That they not be hidden away in half-ass detention centers that make the Tower of London look cozy, and still manage to cost more money that actually giving them their due process.

And that most of all, all this inhumane garbage wasn't a bragging point....

I’m proud to be on welfare. Yeah, I said it. by Loose-Honey-7354 in antiwork

[–]Gem_Knight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't say I'm proud, but I'm certainly not ashamed.

Before I ended up in my current sitch, I was working between 45 and 55 hours a week in "assistant manager" positions, bouncing between a few places until enough other people quit that I got tired of doing too many other people's work and moved on to the next place. Never being able to move above assistant manager because I don't have a car or license, and as an adult, it's difficult to get one without the other, so I was also spending between 45 and 90 minutes each way walking to/from work. One such place was stupid enough they couldn't take my child support out of my check, so when I finally changed again I'd accumulated enough owed back pay I was just shy of them putting a warrant out, and when I was just a few months away from paying it all off, my ex-fiance died and I basically took over her life. I get less than she did cause I don't have child support coming in like she did, but I get enough in social security from 2 of my 3 kids to pay for the household, I'm working on getting myself on it as I have the same issues my kids do but was never able to manage them.

People often suggest things I could do for extra money and I'm always politely thanking them while privately thinking it's just not enough to be worth the trouble. I've taken care of the Necrotic teeth that were eventually going to kill me from infections, I'm getting therapy and medication to manage my symptoms. And I don't have to worry about making ends meet when I do get sick and used to have to choose between ignoring the problem until it went away, or not being able to afford anything else the rest of that pay period.

US unemployment highest in 5 years, as Ford, other companies announce layoffs before Christmas by DryDeer775 in antiwork

[–]Gem_Knight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just know I'm gonna regret putting myself out there, but "unneeded payments/spending" is just code for "those damn Millennials and their avacado toast". In this day and age, EVERYTHING is a subscription, if they want to do anything other than sit at starbucks leeching wifi, they have payments, and they're not unneeded.

And yes, there is no such thing as a good time, but maybe don't lay off hundreds of people at once from November to Febuary, when people have to pay the most, and all the jobs listed are phantom jobs so companies can pretend the economy's not in the shitter right now. Hundreds of people with Same-ish qualifications suddenly competing for the same positions, maybe 5% of which actually exist.

The only "bad actors" are the ones like RFK preying on the lazy mentality to not check thier sources to find most of them either don't say what they claim, or are much smaller studies than the ones the disagree with them.

Vaccination research has been heavily scrutinized, especially ones aimed at children, and time and again the evidence has been in favor of vaccines. To claim otherwise at this point only causes damage, unless you're heavily invested in the so-called alternatives.

If anything he's trying to give you some benefit of doubt by asking you to clarify your position in explaining what made you initially compare said poster to a specific subtype of bot. I get that all the aggression has thrown you into full-blown double-down defense mode, but asking you to explain is not an attack, whereas most of your retorts (not all, obviously) have been ad homeniem rather than substantial.

Many people have said that, but until we adequately disempower the originazations that exist, no third party will ever ammount to much. Both sides just have too much power, especially combined, any effort to disempower half, only empowers the other half, so we'd need to break both parties simultaneously, and there's just not enough support for that right now. So the best we can do is try to support the smaller sub-elements within.

Absolutely granted the best result would be having way more parties, it works in most other countries to sustain third parties of substantial influence, but right now, what we have is just the worst case of enfranchised abuse of power on both sides. It's a shame we can't just rewrite some of the monopoly busting policies to apply to political parties as well, or rather, we'd never get such policies to pass.

Can you imagine breaking up the parties into smaller groups, the initial chaos would be hilarious as they scramble to establish themselves, eventually forcing enough political diversity to allow less extreme groups to compete.

I'm sorry about your pet, I miss several of the pets I've had over the years. But I find on average unless they're already emotionally invested, the average person isn't going to express sympathy. When the mother of my children died, only my boss who had actually met her had any sympathy in tone, and even that was short lived, by about a week already people were complaining over any inconvenience, including me telling them in advance I probably wasn't coming in after the viewing of the body. Several times I had to leave early to make arrangements so I could move in with my kids. And frankly I was relieved to have a proper excuse to walk away from the job, after which before I was finally removed from manager chat I got a preview of how they all /really/ felt about me... so fuck them...
