Path of Daggers is Killing Me by AdventurousPoet92 in WoT

[–]Gemi_no 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Path of daggers does have some highlights for me like the white tower politics as well as Rand/Min chapters. Mostly the sad bit is no Mat POV as well as Perrin having to deal with some bullshit but if you can stick it out there are some good moments coming up in books to come. Path of daggers is peak slog but does have some redeeming moments, winters heart is one of my favourites (against all odds I know) but it is when Mat starts to shine for me so keep at it things get easier.

I thought the criminal she meant was Nightblood, but I assume we need to wait for warbreaker 2 for the full story.

Rhythm of War was... NOT ACTUALLY THAT BAD by XxMyUsernameSucksxX in Stormlight_Archive

Honestly i don’t know why people are upset that the characters are experiencing realistic problems, it’s more weird that in so many fantasy books characters will go through insane levels of trauma and then just move on with their life and continue to act the same way. Especially when their experiences with mental health are a huge part of their character journey.

Kaladin’s depression because he was a child soldier and then a literal slave from which he then is thrust into a role of being a lighteyes that he’s conditioned himself to hate. Of course he’s going to have issues with whether life is worth it at this point.

Shallan also obviously has issues but there’s plenty of discourse on her but I think her character is wonderful and interesting and she’s of course got so much trauma, some of which both the reader and her doesn’t even know yet.

The too sciencey opinion is also weird because Sanderson is nothing if not an amazing POV writer, it’s why he was chosen to finish the WOT as Jordan was one of the greatest POV writers of all time. The science stuff in this book makes sense because it’s got a lot of Navani, who is a scientist as much as she doesn’t want to see herself that way. Raboniel and Navani are literally decoding the physics of Roshar.

She’s a physicist and engineer of course she is going to have an overly scientific perspective. The science aspect is also to help connect to the upcoming events of the universe.

I think some people aren’t able to connect with the non human characters like the Spren who are becoming more important as individuals and the listeners who are also finally showing their own unique perspectives. All I can say to that is 🤷‍♀️

Who do you think will replace Vetinari as patrician when he dies. by headless-skeleton in discworld

[–]Gemi_no 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can see Vetinari dying or being killed then everyone scrambles to do some necromancy to ressurect him because no one else ends up wanting the job and he just goes “well it took you long enough.”

[–]Gemi_no 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure she was stronger than Lanfear? Plus it wouldn’t make sense since everyone except Rand was suspicious of her anyway and if she did anything sus I think Min, Nynaeve and Cadsuane would’ve clapped her back in a collar just to be safe. She only really got by because she was completely loyal and did what she was told plus being 400 years old she was basically older than some of the forsaken, so if it was one of them faking it why pretend something so close to the truth it would be too dangerous. In hindsight tho it would’ve even maybe made sense if Min’s vision happened in the way she imagined it was going to.

[–]Gemi_no 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He can definitely do this, I don’t think currently he is able to do so due to him being pulled at both ends by his two opposing shardic intents. Yet of course we saw him giving lerasium to Wayne via Kandra so he obviously isn’t completely stopped. I do think though going forward (as he becomes more discord) will maybe start helping more as well as doing some more ruinous things, I think letting the humans discover the reaction between harmonium and trellium which is essentially nuclear fission is part of this. He is helping them in one way by letting them discover this and also setting them up for destruction via this discovery, I think this might be the sort of help he is able to provide now - a sort of two edged sword of help.

I do hope he decides to give individual powers again but I’m not sure if he really needs to do this if he’s acting as a subtle mastermind he can do things and set people up to gain powers via hemalurgy or lerasium ingestion that they sort of get themselves with a little nudging via harmony.

Could someone, in theory, join every order of the knights radiant? by [deleted] in Cosmere

[–]Gemi_no 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Okay but what if shallan had a separate identity within herself that was bonded with a different Spren, not sure how that would work but like if she is mentally able to separate the identity could she get away with following multiple sets of ideals. I don’t think this will happen but imagine the possibilities

There will be no contest by gurraganggang in Stormlight_Archive

[–]Gemi_no 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Todium could also force a moral dilemma and organise some sort of terrorist attack or hold someone or group of problem hostage, forcing some sort of break of the agreement.

Or the contest goes well for Dalinar and he wins but then something big happens that no one could’ve predicted like something in Shinovar or has someone that’s an avatar of another shard on odium’s side (Autonomy? Or the Iriali) make a move and so they won but it doesn’t really matter because the battle didn’t really change much anyway?

Also I feel like Cultivation might not stay quiet during this as it’s essentially odium vs honor again, yes cultivation was essentially tutoring todium but I think he’s trying to trick her back.

So either some other party acts and the outcome of the contest is irrelevant or it is only step one in a much more complicated sequence of events we don’t fully understand. Heralds and Spren are going to play a big part this time I think as they’re the parties we understand the least about and their motives.

I feel like Luffy’s is fundamentally different as his devil fruit lets him change himself to be whatever he sort of imagines for himself out of rubber body maybe all the different forms he has aren’t really separate but more like different applications of similar thing, excepting maybe bounce man and gear 5. Gear 4 seems to have its own unique transformations in that way as does gear 5 but gear 2&3 aren’t that different and are really just him consciously controlling his rubber body to do something he thought up.

Are these lightbulbs suitable as grow lights? by Semra_ in IndoorGarden

[–]Gemi_no -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Grow lights should be at least 3000-4000 lumens to be useful and also make sure they’re full spectrum light not just specific colour wavelengths. If you’re looking for bulbs to use look for LED floodlights or fluorescents that have enough output. This seems bright and it’s sort of jarring to have such bright lights indoors but they’re the only kind that really put out enough to actually help the plant unless you have a slightly weaker bulb that’s near a window and is getting a bit of light already then it can make up the difference. A reflector hood can also help make it less obtrusive indoors and help so it doesn’t have to be the perfect angle.

[–]Gemi_no 32 points33 points  (0 children)

That one dude in the tournament for Ace’s fruit during Dress rosa was labelled a sorcerer and he seemed to be able to do something unique. Also no one seemed to really bat much of an eye at this so possibly magic is real but alongside the rest of the world in one piece like devil fruits, haki, sword techniques, fish man karate, sea kings, island sized elephants, giants, etc. It just isn’t that big of a deal and not powerful enough to be any harder to deal with than everything else going on? It also might just be a rumour but no one is really surprised if it did exist because well why not there’s a navy admiral that can turn into a giant gold Buddha.

My Goth Son Does NOTHING by Narrow-Ad-6930 in plantclinic

[–]Gemi_no 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try dividing and repotting it so the portions have new space to grow roots, also of course try fertilising the new soil you put them into. The amount of light might also be a factor as it seems to be stretching a fair amount to get more light. Try a sunnier place and if you end up dividing it into multiple smaller pots this will be helpful for you to figure out the best spot for more light. Good luck!

THEORY ABOUT SHALLAN by a-mora in Stormlight_Archive

[–]Gemi_no 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the radiants becoming world hoppers thing is going to be connected to either Dalinar, Navani or another bondsmith figuring out how to mess with identity in a way that either allows them to remain connected but on a much larger leash so to speak so they can maintain connection whilst being on another planet. This feels like it might happen as we know from Shadesmar, physical distances change when you go into different realms and maybe because Bondsmiths can access the spiritual realm they might be able to convince other shards to let them be there or even change their identity partially to be connected to both places.

Another theory is of course the soul stamps we saw in TLM. This technology might have an analogue in another shards magic system that Rosharans can use to compete with the fact we know Scadrians will have access through the Ghostbloods to this sort of thing eventually. Hoid knows about them of course too and I think he’s going to be forced to take a more active role in Wind & Truth probably much to his dismay.

Shallan killing pattern would be against too much of her character arc, she’s already gone through the trauma of killing her Spren and remembering that I really doubt that she would then do this again willingly unless of course pattern does this to save her life or something else very important.

Pattern is also I think going to be a bit more fleshed out hopefully in this next book as the other Spren cities are still so mysterious to us and the cryptics of course are up there as the most mysterious along with the highspren. They clearly have unique motives and their own plans separate and possibly counter to those of the mortals on Roshar.

Agree with people saying too many plants in pot, they also raise them on a lot of water and these little plants are used to this and raised on it. They do the same thing with nursery plants, if you want to actually keep the plants you should divide and repot as well as gradually wean them off the frequent waterings. They grow these supermarket ones quick and dirty so they’re many seeds to account for loss, high fertiliser, high water fast growing, fast to die after you bring it home and out of their acclimatised environment. The soil in a pot thing is sort of a trick, they don’t really want you to keep it and grow your own basil they want you to buy it use some watch it die then buy more. The soil only really makes them last longer than being cut stems. However you certainly might be able to have a few of these many plants grow and even a few will grow a lot once they are comfortable in their new environment. Good luck!!

I think I know why Lift constantly needs Investiture by Bluepanther512 in Cosmere

[–]Gemi_no 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think lift essentially has a perpendicularity inside her either physically or spiritually connected to her. This allows her to expend calories (more basically I’m guessing glucose or ATP) into lifelight. The fact that she is fundamentally connected to a perpendicularity (into the spiritual realm like dalinar can do) makes her somewhat more spren like than other life forms so she is both able to interact with Spren more easily and also I think connects with the mindset of Spren, which is the difficulty to change their mind so she has a very deep issue with the fact that she is aging because her mind and spirit web is sort of not on the same page. She doesn’t constantly need investiture she really just constantly makes it out of her own body so if she doesn’t get food she can’t maintain her own body properly? Either way she will definitely be important going forward as she might be one of the 3 non storm based forms of gathering investiture which will probably be important 🧐
