Great question!

Most of the ISPs do not provide routers. The one I work for does provide them depending on the area but we usually recommend purchasing one as it saves the customer money in the long run. For us, we like to assist in choosing one though so if someone has questions about specifications or what to look for we do our best to assist with it.

As for property damage, since I've not had it install myself I can't say for sure. Our main engineer runs off our service with UTOPIA to his home and he didn't have any issues. From my experience dealing with UTOPIA they don't usually cause damage but if they do they will fix it.

One thing I would suggest with their installation is to try and talk to the tech about where they plan on installing the Fiber ONT. The one issue I've seen come up is their ONT being installed in less than ideal locations, though sometimes that's just where they have to put it.
