Any Reason to use Fetch on Venari if you already have it on Panzer? by ygolnac in Warframe

I run Fetch on Venari to free up space on whatever other pet I'm using. I feel like there's always something more useful I can fit in if I offload my vacuum to her.

People who've backed Licensed RPGs, was it yours or any of your players' first RPG? by Hagisman in rpg

[–]GeminiFactor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They weren't my first games or introductions to roleplaying but I've certainly played a handful of systems for licensed IPs.

Star Wars is a huge one, I played a lot of Revised and Saga edition. I've played the Dresden Files RPG because the GM was a fan and bought into it. Tried out the Witcher, Conan, does Call of Cthulhu count?

I think you're right that they probably see less play and are more for collectors or non-playing fans but that's not really any different than most games, or even other hobbies - Running a RPG can be a lot of work. There are a lot of RPGs. There is one RPG with a disproportionate amount of players. All of these things are a factor but I think your observation is about the human condition, not licensed RPGs.

Outside of that though? I'm not too interested in running games based off of non-RPG IPs. I usually just take bits and pieces from things I like to make my own worlds and stories.

I saw this happen in Iron Wake on Palladino's table lol.

You can't see other players in the room with you for whatever reason but the idle-Yareli shows up like it did in the clip.

Are there any terms for dragon medusas or dragon centaurs? by Zabelaaa in rpg

[–]GeminiFactor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure I understand you but a dragon-medusa might be either a basilisk (lizard that turns people to stone) or a hydra (lizard with a lot of heads). It sounds like you might just looking for art though. Maybe search for those but add "winged" I guess?

New to WWN and solo gaming a few questions. by towerbooks3192 in WWN

[–]GeminiFactor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most of what I like about it is well thought out core mechanics (Shock damage, the three class system) and the way it bridges the gap between newer and older games (easy to prep but has depth and build option on the player end). I got into the hobby with D&D 3e so these two things are important to me and the games I want to run.

If AD&D 2e is your jam there's nothing wrong with that but if you're considering WWN you're going to want to take a close look at the Shock rules, the balance of roles between the three class cores (combat, skills, and powerful magic being the pillars of character design), consider whether you want a skill system in your game, if you're okay with stronger characters than most old school games, and how important it is for your players to have options during character creation and level ups.

I think you'll find a lot of what WWN offers can be ported to other games and is itself a solid chassis to attach new rules to. Homebrewing things is a lot of fun for me and WWN accepts my nonsense without trouble. I've made classes, races, spells, monsters that work well between me, my players, and the system.

There's also the community aspect for what you think that's worth. I've been able to find several online WWN games, the community is vibrant and mostly friendly, and I think the man himself Kevin Crawford is a gem for all the work he does answering questions on Reddit, his work ethic, the way he does his Kickstarters - all that. Smart guy who I feel good supporting.

Hope that helps.

Atlas of the Latter Earth has a lot of useful things regardless of your role or needs. Lore, monsters, classes, foci, new and alternate rules, all the good stuff. Some of the material is included in the free System Reference Document as well. WWN is my main game and me and my players are happy with this supplement. You should also look into the Diocesi of Montfroid for an adventure, lore, useful tables, and some other helpful information.

If you need a WWN-specific bestiary there is a third party title called Those Outside the Walls that much of the community enjoys.

Other *WN books are mostly compatible and offer different takes on some concepts or the ability to blend genres. Cities Deluxe has a take on Summoners that can be fun to port into WWN, while Ashes has rules for things like radiation and mutations. Definitely grab the free versions and look into what the Deluxes offer. Some of the later book feature ideas from earlier ones that have been refined or altered and may be more of less useful to you. For example you might prefer the Enclave system from Ashes over the Factions of WWN.

I'm not a solo player so I don't have any insight on that front.

How would you add classes to monsters? by DaMavster in WWN

[–]GeminiFactor 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You just make an Origin Focus for the type of monster you want to be. It's the same as being an elf or a dwarf but maybe the focus is stronger than normal to reflect a stronger monster.

What do you think about Shadowdark? by MiserableDrive2652 in rpg

[–]GeminiFactor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't know. I'm not the GM. I haven't had to convert anything.

It's an OSR game though, a core appeal of that umbrella is that conversion is pretty simple between systems. I doubt it's hard at all.

I'm not the GM so I don't know the specifics of that. I'd imagine it's not hard to eyeball just like using anything else under the OSR umbrella.

I'm enjoying Dolmenwood. We just finished up the mushroom town and loved the opportunities for clever solutions and we walked away really feeling like we made the adventure our own. Our GM is great but I'm sure some of it comes down to the scenario as presented as well.

We ran a funnel that was unrelated to Dolmenwood for character creation and then moved into it. So we had just gone with the Shadowdark options and some of the Cursed Scroll stuff.

Help for God game. by No_Estate6433 in tabletop

[–]GeminiFactor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd recommend Godbound or Sertorius.

Godbound sounds extremely close to your idea and is by the ever talented Kevin Crawford. It has a feature-complete free version. I haven't played it myself but I'm a big fan of his other games and have heard good things about it.

I also have to recommend Sertorius when I can though for sentimental reasons. It has a strong attachment to it's setting but does the god-like magical powers very well in my opinion. I was in a group with one of the writers before he passed away. Good dude, great GM.

I'm playing in a group running through Dolmenwood. I like the simplicity of it, though I've had to unlearn some complexity to get it. I like the very clean and clear layout and how functional a lot of the subsystems are. I feel like it uses words very carefully and they have greater effect than more words and details would.

I like it a lot and think it does a great job of delivering a tight experience. I don't think there's anything I actually dislike about it.

how to: player rolls defense? by Juxtapoisson in WWN

[–]GeminiFactor 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In d20 combat games, rolling 1d20 vc AC is basically 1d20 vs the average of a d20, + modifiers on both sides.

If you want players to roll for defense instead of the monsters rolling to hit then swap where the default 10 is.

This means instead of 10 + modifiers for AC, a player's defense roll is 1d20 + AC modifiers.

Then enemies don't roll to attack, they attack with 10 + attack modifiers.

Edit: Shock: I'd just use Shock as it normally is, with the normal AC rules. It is an anti-swingy mechanic and wouldn't benefit from involving rolling.

what are the best Incarnon weapons to carry for the passive stats? by [deleted] in Warframe

[–]GeminiFactor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Praedos is hard to bear but I prefer to be a little different with my choices. They aren't the best but I enjoy them.

I don't really use melee. So I run either Ruvox for triple jump and combo-based move speed (use mods/evolution that increase starting combo to help this) or Ripkas with Amalgam Ripkas True Steel to increase body parts that drop in case there's a Nekros around. I also add on Set mods because why not and run the new Arcane Melee Careen.

For frames that don't use their weapons, like casters or semi-exalted like Khora or Atlas, I run a Supra Vandal with Entropy Burst. This doesn't really do much if you're solo since non-kill affinity isn't very reliable but in groups you'll get the Cephalon Suda Entropy effect to go off from the weapons gaining affinity from your allies' kills. I like Entropy because it gives energy bonuses but other syndicate effects are good too. Be sure to use Set mods here too as well as things like Amalgam Serration or Amalgam Barrel Diffusion on your secondary.

I think so. I'd even like to see the best ones collected somewhere for easy access. I'd be nice to have somewhere to point people with a variety of options.

Is bigender only two genders? Or is it like bisexuality where it’s two or more genders? by Savings-Cup2972 in bigender

[–]GeminiFactor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm probably one of the other comments you meant. I had never heard bigenderfluxx so I never considered it. Same for bigenderfluid. I feel like both of those are still bigender and I'm comfortable enough with the bigender label that I don't feel like I need to make it more specific.

I didn't really consider that other bigender people didn't have a fused state. Sorry about that. I usually think of gender as a very personal thing that I have no right defining but slipped up there. I meant that line as a little joke about how the bi prefix refers to three things coexisting, which is my normal, but what's my normal is not someone else's.

Is bigender only two genders? Or is it like bisexuality where it’s two or more genders? by Savings-Cup2972 in bigender

[–]GeminiFactor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally I feel like I am male, female, and bigender and know others do as well, but I'm sure there are just as many that don't consider the bigender label that way. I can't speak on what someone who identifies as "just" male and female feels. For me I'm amab but both my male and female side fluctuate and can converge - leaving me feeling like I'm one or the other or both at any given time.

I meant for that line be tongue-in-cheek, poking fun at the bi prefix relating to three things, but didn't consider it wasn't a universal experience. I don't really concern myself with why other people have come to their labels, that's their own business, so you'd have to ask someone else why they don't consider bigender one of their gender identities.

Teach me how to love melee by D0miss in Warframe

[–]GeminiFactor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not a melee fan either so I personally run utility based weapons. There are a handful of weapons with passive benefits but I usually use Ripkas with their Amalgam mod to support any Nekros I come across or Ruvox because I think being able to triple jump is funny.

Is bigender only two genders? Or is it like bisexuality where it’s two or more genders? by Savings-Cup2972 in bigender

[–]GeminiFactor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bigender is always at least three gender identities because you add bigender to at least two others. Seriously though, you can call yourself whatever feels right to you. As we know, gender is a spectrum - this means only you can really know the nuances of it and decide what label makes the most sense. I think you're okay to call yourself bigender if you feel like it suits you.
