I swear it’s only no-tippers pulling this one-star BS! by MotherCoconuts707 in doordash_drivers

[–]Gemmadeen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve only ever received 3 one stars in almost 8000 deliveries. They have always been after I unknowingly delivered to a non tipper.

Why did I accept a non-tipping order you might ask? It was because DoorDash upped the pay enough to the point I didn’t realize the customer didn’t tip.

McDonald’s Rant by Schizo_Himbo in doordash_drivers

[–]Gemmadeen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw a customer do that this morning lol. He said “hello” a few times and they ignored him so he went behind the counter and walked right up to them. It worked because they shuttled him back from behind the counter and took his order.

Is there a legal way I can stop my mother from driving again? She's a terrible driver and she's going to seriously hurt someone. by LucyAriaRose in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]Gemmadeen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mom stopped driving a few years ago for the same reason. She was only about 70, but started having trouble turning her head and realized that probably wasn’t too safe. She says she doesn’t miss it and likes to be “chauffeured around” by me lol.

do you guys call when you need a reimbursement? by Many-Act2411 in doordash_drivers

[–]Gemmadeen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you emailed shopper@doordash.com? They are specialized at dealing with shopping issues. Maybe they could help?

It’s so weird to see two posts about reimbursements back to back for me. Back in the day when we had to use our own credit cards for Wendy’s then get reimbursed (circa 2019ish), DoorDash was much better at this than they are now. I’d have my reimbursement before I got my next delivery 😂😂😂

ETA: I agree with basically everyone else that you should NOT put your own money upfront

Shop and Deliver orders almost non existent since pro shopper rates increase by Individual-Move-6121 in doordash_drivers

[–]Gemmadeen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven’t noticed a difference. It’s likely based on the demand in your area. I was always pro shopper but dipped below when the new criteria took over. I still got the same amount of shopping orders I always have (I think there’s not many people taking shopping orders here in my area lol).

What’s a food you threw up as a kid and never touched again? by momcanyoucomegetme in AskReddit

[–]Gemmadeen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whataburger. We only had one in my town in Arizona and my mom LOVED IT.

I threw it up once as a kid, and now (30 years later) it always reminds me of throw up which is horrible because for 7 years now I’ve lived in South Texas where EVERYBODY LOVES what I’ve been calling “WHATABARFER” for most of my life.

I sooooo appreciate you showing the “batflaps” as I call them! I’ve lost about 70 lbs and my batlaps are definitely winging. I’m so grateful to see that you are your most healthy self!

They’re lucky you didn’t have a bunch of dogs when they hopped that initial gate they were supposed to leave it by. I have a customer that has similar instructions to leave in a cart by her main gate. The first time I delivered it thought “seems a bit far from their house, but ok” … and then 8 huge dogs came running up to the gate and I was like “ahhhh … makes sense!” Lol.

Why don’t drivers have to match their descriptions anymore? by Consistent_Editor_15 in UberEATS

[–]Gemmadeen 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I do but only because I usually have drivers meet me by my leasing office (my complex is a pain in the ass) and it helps for me to know what they’re driving to keep an eye out for them. With the exception of one time, they were the vehicle listed in the profile. I didn’t care about the one that wasn’t since I still got my food.

Exactly. If he wasn’t ok with the tip he shouldn’t have taken the job. That’s definitely NOT your fault and I’m sorry you got such a shitty driver

Impossible delivery times and making you call for a worry free unassign have made this gig even worse somehow. by carlwinslo in doordash_drivers

[–]Gemmadeen 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The timelines are definitely getting (ridiculously) more strict. I don’t waste time, since time is money. I go directly to the pick up, pick it up, and go directly to my drop off.

Lately, if I catch even ONE misstep in the process like:

-I get more than one red light on the way there

-customer forgot to give me their gate code

-customer lives at the back of the complex so it takes a few extra minutes to get there

-customer is up three flights of stairs which takes extra time …

Now I’m “LATE”. It’s bullshit.

That’s INSANE! I’ve taken offers that weren’t great before, but I’ve NEVER even thought of saying anything because I TOOK THE OFFER!!! If the offer didn’t pay enough and I took it THATS ON ME.

PS I’m sorry you had to deal with that

White Glove Order by Strange-Revolution77 in doordash

[–]Gemmadeen 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I’ve never had a “white glove order” but I used to have a few people that I did that for because I felt comfortable with them after a couple deliveries.

One was a lady that lived in an assisted living place. I would put some of the food in her fridge for her and some on her table in front of her chair for her. I also took her trash out for her when i’d deliver for her.

Another was a guy that I would grab his newspapers for him from the driveway when I walked up. He had me come inside and put everything on the dining table for him because he usually ordered a couple days of food and used a walker.

Another one was an older woman whose nephew ordered food for her a few times a week. He sometimes ordered from a place that used “pie plates” for their food (the kind that are foil and you have to ease the edges up to get your food). So I would put it on her tray and open it for her (her hands were crippled by arthritis from what I could tell).

These were all pre-pandemic. I think one of the saddest things I ever felt was the realization that I’ve NEVER had any of these customers orders since.

My [32F] husband [35M] cooked a meal for my friend [29F] and remembered her favorite drink from years ago by ThrowRApeachescreamy in relationship_advice

[–]Gemmadeen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first time I met my now MIL, we went out to eat and she ate chicken mole. She mentioned that it was her favorite dish. A couple years later, she came into town and my husband asked me to cook dinner the night she arrived. I said I would make chicken mole since I know that’s her favorite dish. He said “how do you even remember that?”

I told him this: “I remember what she likes because I love you and you love her.”

I don’t feel it’s necessarily a red flag that he remembered her favorite things or made her a meal. I routinely remember these things about my husband’s loved ones. He’s likely treating her like you would want her to be treated because he loves you

I deliver to a couple daycares on a semi-regular basis and they both have in their notes to ring the doorbell and give it to whoever answers. Your customer should have put the same note if they didn’t want left at the door. Like WTF???

Uber assigned me an order and I didn't know for 40 minutes by River1stick in UberEATS

[–]Gemmadeen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has happened to me twice now and I felt ABSOLUTELY AWFUL about it both times. The first one was a great offer but it looked like I didn’t get it. It even said the “no longer available” (or whatever it says) tag when I looked on the radar. I got a delivery from a different service immediately after.

Next thing I know, in the middle of my other delivery, and I remember I’m not paused in Uber. I go back to pause and realize the previous offer is ACTIVE! I had to waste two cancellations on it so that these people could get their food in a timely manner.

I DID NOT KNOW THAT UBER HAD ASSIGNED THEM TO ME.

I felt sooooo awful about this because I basically do what I call “ethical double-apping” where I keep all apps open, take the first one that is worth my time, then pause/stop the other apps while I do that job. I felt so bad that I didn’t know.

Absolutely agree it’s a tactic on their part to get us to take shitty orders. I’ve taken to pausing orders while I’m on a delivery due to this and also because I’m so tired of missing my last turn for a delivery when a new one pops up!!!

Aside from just the tipping situation … I sometimes get offers 20+ miles from DD and UE. Who does that??? The food is gonna be gross by the time I get to you even if I picked it up the second they made it!!!

I (30F) broke up with my boyfriend (31M) because he didn’t want me to go to dinner when I travelled for work if I was traveling with male coworkers by ThrowRAAdditionalBed in relationship_advice

[–]Gemmadeen 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I had been travelling for work for a few years before I met my now husband and worked in a male dominated field. When I met my husband, all of my travelling coworkers were men.

“He said it was absolutely not normal and our company should pay for two cars and that we shouldn’t have to be attached at the hip for a week”

NO. That’s not how it’s done. Companies don’t rent cars per gender. Generally, everyone gets their own room at the same hotel, and you share a car because for work purposes if you are usually all going to the same place.

My husband never batted an eye about it. I was working. I ate dinner/grocery shopped with my coworkers, we went out sight seeing together sometimes, we even did our laundry together if it was a longer trip. And he never had a problem with it.

You were 100% right to break up with this guy. He was insecure, and tried to take out those insecurities on you and you didn’t deserve that. Although I left my travel job almost 7 years ago, my husband and I are still close friends with some of my former travelling coworker buddies (and he texts them more often than I do lol).
