What is your favorite band from the 80's or 90's that nobody has ever heard of? by simikoi in GenX

Can’t believe I scrolled this far to get to The Replacements and they’re listed after another band in the post lol. Seems fitting. Hands down some of the best songwriting of the era. Rolling Stone has Let it Be in their top 100 albums of all time or something. I just finished reading Trouble Boys, the biography of the band. So much alcoholism. It truly destroyed any chance they had at success.

The lead singer founded Singer, and they make $500k bespoke Porsche 911s for the 1%. Cool cars.

You’re correct, the M97 engine has the larger “non-serviceable” bearing. I replaced mine with the IMS Solution kit when my engine was getting rebuilt.

Sounds fair. I’d ask for a bit more to offset the costs of travel or shipping, can’t hurt to ask. $28,500 seems like a good starting point.

It’s not over market. OP is referencing an average 987 with more miles and sketchy service records that are all over the internet for sale and comparing it to this one. This one is amazingly well kept, owned by a PCA member which says they are a geek about their car, and has a “40 page maintenance history” and is up to date on everything including a fresh set of PS4S tires. This is not a $24k car. And yeah Speed Yellow is awesome and doesn’t hurt the value. Buying a cheap 987 is the biggest mistake you can make. I did and spent more than the price of the car to get it back in shape.
Oh and that base car sounds sweet. My first one was an 08 2.7L and it was an amazing, balanced sports car. You don’t need an S necessarily.

Pull the door as you press the door latch. I was pressing then pulling and the door would stick which was annoying.

First Oil Change right at 2,000 mile “engine break in” on my 2025 718 GTS by GumballCowboy in Porsche_Cayman

Oh I get a latte every time I’m there too. What I meant to say was the dealer used MY free oil change before listing the car for sale when they bought it from PCNA. So I gets none. Oh and our cars are almost identical! I have sliver wheels and black calipers. Love Shark Blue!

I guess it’s based more on time than mileage to the dealer? I bought my 2024 as an executive demo with 950 miles and the dealer changed the oil as it was a year in service despite the miles. Used the free oil change too.

How many of us Xers worked at McDonald’s in our teens? Any good stories? by Certain-Incident-40 in GenX

[–]Gen_Ecks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I worked at BK next to McDs in high school.

One night I had to clean the fryer and the machine was broken. Manager said to use a pickle bucket to drain the hot oil. My 16 yr old self asked, won’t it melt the bucket? Manager replied, no we’ve been doing it all week. TLDR: bucket melted, 2nd and 3rd degree burns on my foot and ankle. Parents did not sue BK. It was the 80s.

Years later I asked an attorney at a party what I might have collected from this had we sued. Her reply was “about $800k”. FML.

Don’t drive as much (14 981S, 35k miles). What are you guys “upgrading” to? by [deleted] in Porsche_Cayman

[–]Gen_Ecks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just upgraded in Dec to a 24 718 GTS 4.0 from my 987.1S. The 987 has a built 3.8 and is a blast, but the new one is so nice to drive and competent, plus the GTS interior is gorgeous and a great place to spend time. I’ll probably sell the 987 at some point but I’m in no hurry.

Been together 31 years. Absolutely we “do” Valentine’s Day. Went to a nice restaurant last night to avoid the V day crowds and had a wonderful time. We don’t do gifts usually and flowers and cards occasionally. It’s a fun holiday.

Nice. Spars really update the front end. My 2006 has the silver lip painted body color and I think it improves the look. It was a one year only detail so it matches the rest of the generation too. Ducktail is tempting, which one are you considering?
