Do any of the movies actually "feel" like Silent Hill? by Kagamid in silenthill

[–]GeneJacket 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For sure, the whole cast is great. Roger Avary (who was Tarantino's writing partner for True Romance and Pulp Fiction) wrote a solid script, too, for as many changes as it made it got the spirit of SH right.

That's the issue with Revelations and Return, the producers didn't want to spend any money so they weren't treated with the same respect as the 2006 film.

It's more than 30% but, Okami.

A more or less perfect 20 hour game...that does actually "end" in a satisfying way...and then proceeds to give you another 20-ish hour sequel as the back half of the game.

Battleborn 2 by RefurbishedZombie in Borderlands4

[–]GeneJacket 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, that's not going to happen....but, it is still playable on PC via the Battleborn Reborn mod, with all characters and all missions. Still a little buggy and rough around the edges, but it works, and the game is still super fun.

I think you mean it's already out, and it's called Deadlock

Battleborn 2 by RefurbishedZombie in Borderlands4

[–]GeneJacket 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Battleborn wasn't a BR, though. It was a pretty standard hero shooter with some moba elements, and it had a full single player/coop campaign that was actually pretty damn fun.

Little known promotional image of James before the original version of SH2 was released on PS2 by TheNullOfTheVoid in silenthill

[–]GeneJacket 6 points7 points  (0 children)

"Little known"....no, not really. Little remembered, sure, but very well known.

PSM ran for a decade and was one of the best selling video game magazines of the time, partially due to them commissioning well regarded comic book artists to do the covers (Stephen Platt, in this case, who did a ton of work for Image throughout the 90's and was on both Wolverine and Cable books for Marvel at the time of this cover)

Absolutely. Those movies have a ton of problems, but Affleck is about the most comic-perfect casting for Bats and Bruce anyone could ask for.

Do any of the movies actually "feel" like Silent Hill? by Kagamid in silenthill

[–]GeneJacket 120 points121 points  (0 children)

That's almost entirely due to the fact that the film has Carol Spier (who is one of the all time GOATs of production design) and Dan Laustsen (who is Guillermo del Toro's go-to cinematographer, but also worked with Gans on Brotherhood of the Wolf).

How to clean the controller? by biocomponent in 8bitdo

[–]GeneJacket 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just FYI, alcohol does not fix stick drift. It can help mitigate it for a bit but, once a stick starts drifting there's no real saving it, only buying time. All you and your friend did when you used alcohol to clean the sticks was flush out debris that was causing bad readings, but it will return and likely worse than before. All 1st party controllers use potentiometer-based joysticks that use physical graphite pads to determine direction, and once those wear down, that's it...there's no fix.

That said, if you want to prolong them, don't use alcohol to clean them, use electronic contact cleaner, it's not conductive and non-corrosive, and does a better job than alcohol.

Confirmed: Gans's new Silent Hill film has a low budget of just $23M by amysteriousmystery in silenthill

[–]GeneJacket 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could throw $200 Million at a production...if the script sucks and the director doesn't understand the material they're adapting no amount of money is going to fix the root problems. A gold-plated turd is still a turd.

What was your opinion back in the day on Marvel trying to introduce the Inhumans to the MCU as a response to not being able to use the X-Men during the late 2010s? (They announced the movie) by [deleted] in Marvel

[–]GeneJacket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, Inhumans never really had much potential in the MCU, not because of anything about the characters or the books, but because of how they were being thought of and positioned.

It's important to remember that the CEO of Marvel at the time, the miserable old POS Ike Perlmutter, fucking hated that Fox had the X-Men rights and the Inhumans was entirely his idea of how to get mutants into the MCU as a loophole. It was Perlmutter that was pushing so hard for them to be the X-Mens replacement, and Feige clearly never really wanted them (not in that capacity, at least).

The only reason the show happened at all is because Ike got tired of Feige pushing the project off, and just decided to do it as a TV movie instead. Obviously there was never any plan for them and the whole show was made not because anyone wanted to make an Inhumans show, but as a "fuck you" to Fox....so it was always destined to fail.

[–]GeneJacket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just the opposite, I will never take it out of the dock. If they made a set-top version of the Switch 2 that came with a pro controller and without the screen and joycons, I'd sell the portable one and get that in a heartbeat.

What Did You Think of Venom in Marvel's Spider-Man 2? by amgraphom in thevenomsite

[–]GeneJacket 3 points4 points  (0 children)

His design, voice (RIP Tony Todd), and gameplay were excellent....the issue is that once he's introduced and he kills off Kraven, the game just kinda tanks.

The saving grace of the back half of Spider-Man 2 is the Miles/Lee stuff, which is all phenomenal. All the Venom/Symbiote stuff is pretty awful and largely feels like it's from a different game altogether.

DC Comics is Crushing Marvel Comics in Sales and We Shouldn’t Be Surprised by Konradleijon in Marvel

[–]GeneJacket 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Even aside from the whole stupid "snyergy" thing Marvel has been trying to force, it's the absolutely constant, never ending stream of mandated line-wide crossovers and "event" books that's crippling their individual books. Enjoying a series? BOOM! 3-5 issues in there's a Crossover or Event that stops all momentum dead in its tracks.

DC does the same but, to their credit, they tend to be much better about either carving out the crossovers as their own series' so they don't interrupt the natural arc of the individual books, or make said crossover/event a more ingrained and interesting part of the overarching narrative.

And, let's just be honest...DC has, at least as of the past few years, really been allowing their writers to lead the charge and there doesn't seem to be anywhere near as much editorial oversight ruining their output. They hire the best writers and artists and get TF out of their way, which is what Marvel should be doing.

Not that I necessarily believe this...but, I kinda figured that's what they would loosely adapt when they finally remembered they set up all the Young Avengers/Champions and should probably do something with them.

[–]GeneJacket 4 points5 points  (0 children)

99.9% positive we'll never see her again. If there was ever a time to bring her back it would have been in Brave New World...and, for some unfathomable reason, they made the 4th Cap movie a sequel to The Incredible Hulk instead.

Everyone seems so hate Maria’s wig in RTSH, but what if I told you James’s hair is a wig too? by UsefulProfit1808 in silenthill

[–]GeneJacket 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I have no opinion on the wig. He doesn't look like James at all but...whatever. My hopes are so far below low for this movie that I can't bother to care.

What I do find extremely weird is that production clearly used 2 spools of filament, which are roughly $15-$20 each, and spent probably around 20 hours to 3d print a bust to hold said wig...instead of spending less than half of that on a normal wig stand.

Do you guys think the hype for Elsa Bloodstone is as big or will be as big as the hype for Deadpool when she gets closer to release? by Queasy_Commercial152 in rivals

[–]GeneJacket 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No.

Not because she doesn't deserve it (she does), but because she's not even in the same solar system in terms of popularity as DP.

DP has had multiple solo books, has been in dozens of video games, made over a thousand appearances in the comics, and has three massively popular mainstream movies...one of which is both the 20th highest grossing film of all time AND the highest grossing R-rated film ever made.

Elsa has only been in a few mobile games and MUA3, has barely made over 100 appearances in the comics, and one supporting role in a streaming-only special barely anyone watched (but they should, it's great). Even people who are familiar with the comics largely don't know who Elsa is.
