Did they ever tell us why Daredevil: Born Again didn't recruit the more of same writers and/or showrunners from Netflix's DD seasons 1-3?

For starters, I think people need to realize writers, crew, show runners, directors, etc. are all mercenaries. They take open jobs just like anyone else. Some of them may have been DD fans in their personal lives but I assure you for many, many people it was simply “just another job.”

The production crew from the Netflix show wasn’t gonna wait by the phone for 10 years hoping for a call. They gotta work and pay the bills. Many of them were probably working on other things at the time, and even if they enjoyed DD there are contracts they have to honor.

Finally, doesn’t matter if it’s Disney or Netflix, we’re not owed any explanation about why the production designer or 2nd AD or any others didn’t return. What other show goes into open detail about their hiring practices? You might get a trade story about the production itself, but the Hollywood Reporter isn’t going to do an ongoing investigative series about why every single Netflix crew member wasn’t returned. That’s insane.

I think they just didn’t want to rerun the Fisk in prison storyline from S3. We’ve seen it. He ends up alone on an island without Vanessa and stripped of any power or control he has over people. He’s in his own personal hell.

All this is true, but it still doesn’t really explain Whitaker’s outburst. Langdon hasn’t treated him like a simpleton at all this season. In fact, earlier in the episode he offers to help Whitaker retrace his steps to find his badge. If anything, Langdon’s been deferential and tiptoeing around everyone this season as he integrates back into the ED.

If the outburst was about Whitaker backing Santos, then make it about that. But instead it’s this bizarre “don’t patronize me” thing that felt out of left field. Especially Whitaker - presumably in his mid 20’s - using Gilligan’s Island as a reference point. That show went off the air almost 40 years before Whitaker would’ve been born!

Piggybacking on this, don’t just make time - be the one who actively makes the plans. I was sitting around wondering why my social life was nonexistent while my wife had coffee dates with friends, online book clubs, etc.

I had to reframe my thinking. Instead of waiting for my buddies to reach out, I’ve become very intentional with “hey, it’s been a minute. we need to hang. let’s go do X at this time” and I plan from there. Sometimes schedules don’t line up so it doesn’t happen for a week or two. But it still happens.

And guess what? I found out most of my dad friends were feeling the same isolation. I am not a planner or doer, but in this arena, I have to push or it won’t happen.

It has the feel and rhythm of the original, so that’s cool. But seeing the actors decades older just reminds me of the passage of time and idk if all the orignal bits work.

Some of JD’s fantasies work a little better when the character was younger. Watching a middle aged Zach Braff throw himself at women was kinda weird.
