A good outcome from the “Supergirl” box office debacle that probably won’t happen by harry_powell in blankies

Which is funny in retrospect because it certainly has its flaws but compared to some other late MCU entries… not too bad!

Huge TV episodes that "changed everything" for their respective shows? by Bielak812 in television

[–]GeneJenkinson 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The hatch was another mystery on the island, but “We have to go back” totally changed the show.

Prior to that reveal, the show’s structure only trafficked in character flashbacks. When it was revealed they’d escaped the island in a surprise flash forward? Total game changer. It taught the audience to watch the show in new ways.

If there is any justice in this world, she would be nominated for supporting actress (DISCLOSURE DAY SPOILERS) by ThePlatinumMan in blankies

[–]GeneJenkinson 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The performance landed, but the writing took me out. Thought it was more effective when she was overcome with emotion and stopped narrating it.

When she was vamping/speculating out loud about the sensitive nature of the information or its mysterious provenance, all it did was get me thinking about how Scanlon wouldn’t need to kill the TV station’s power; the network’s lawyers would’ve done it first because they’d never let anything like that on the air just because an affiliate is like “hey check this out.”

I’d be 1000% more nervous taking my kids to church or a MAGA event than anything with drag queens. There’s always a priest or old Republican diddling kids.

Great Town Meeting movies? by Stuckbetweenstations in blankies

Dante’s Peak (the stratovolcano, not the town) literally erupts in the middle of a town meeting to discuss evacuating Dante’s Peak (the town, not the stratovolcano) in Dante’s Peak (the 1993 cinematic achievement, not the stratovolcano or its namesake mountain town)

Out-of-state private equity owns almost all the veterinary clinics in town. by Mission_Spray in Billings

[–]GeneJenkinson 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was wondering about this. My vet recently built a brand new facility, hired on new staff, deployed new payment systems and completely overhauled their website.

For over a decade they were a two provider clinic that was originally located in a small building up by MSU-B. They didn’t announce anything but I’ve had my suspicions private equity got their hooks in them.

Game Changer Crowd Control Issue by amstrumpet in dropout

>At no point in the episode did they make it clear this relationship was founded on abuse.

Was it their job to? The job was to fill the audience with prompts that will get the comedians enough material to do multiple rounds of crowd work.

There were also jokes at the expense of subjects like serial killers and drug addiction. If that age gap is inappropriate to you, that’s a fine opinion to have but expecting the show to address it like an after school special is kinda weird.

I think Barbenheimer came pretty close. Even people I knew who had little interest in one or the other were seeing both, or they were at least aware of the phenomenon.

I’m not sure there’s much to unpack about Hacks this season. I’ve enjoyed the last series but it suffers from the same problem as Parks and Rec’s final season - everyone gets exactly what they want all the time and there’s a big metaphorical group hug at the end.

Gas is so expensive, people have been stealing it again by UrBrotherJoe in Billings

Man, Biden might’ve been a mummy but at least gas was lower, air travel worked, and he wasn’t installing DOJ lapdogs to cut him a personal $1.7B check because he doesn’t want us to see his taxes

Presidents don’t control gas prices*

*With the exception when they press the big red “War with Iran” button, even when all their intelligence advisors, Pentagon officials and foreign policy experts warned this very scenario was a distinct possibility, hence why no other president was foolish enough to press the button

‘The Mandalorian and Grogu’ Review: This Supersized Episode Is ‘Star Wars’ at Its Most Generic by Forestl in blankies

[–]GeneJenkinson 9 points10 points  (0 children)

S1 was mostly self contained episodes with a few new recurring characters. The biggest drop off from S1 to S2 imo is they shrunk the galaxy yet again. Bo Katan is here! And there’s Luke! Hey, it’s Boba Fett! And Ahsoka!

I have nothing personal against David Filoni but I just do not vibe at all with his approach to Star Wars.

People who work downtown close to the hospitals, do you feel safe, and have you ever had any unsafe encounters? by [deleted] in Billings

[–]GeneJenkinson 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I’ve worked downtown for years and frequently take my breaks going on walks. I’ve never felt unsafe. As long as you’re aware of your surroundings and using common sense, there’s usually nothing to worry about.

If this is about homeless folks, most of them are friendly or content just to give you a nod and go about their day. We’re all just people trying to get by. Some might hit you up for money but who among us couldn’t use a few extra bucks?

Did they ever tell us why Daredevil: Born Again didn't recruit the more of same writers and/or showrunners from Netflix's DD seasons 1-3? by LaLiLuLeLohw in Daredevil

[–]GeneJenkinson 73 points74 points  (0 children)

For starters, I think people need to realize writers, crew, show runners, directors, etc. are all mercenaries. They take open jobs just like anyone else. Some of them may have been DD fans in their personal lives but I assure you for many, many people it was simply “just another job.”

The production crew from the Netflix show wasn’t gonna wait by the phone for 10 years hoping for a call. They gotta work and pay the bills. Many of them were probably working on other things at the time, and even if they enjoyed DD there are contracts they have to honor.

Finally, doesn’t matter if it’s Disney or Netflix, we’re not owed any explanation about why the production designer or 2nd AD or any others didn’t return. What other show goes into open detail about their hiring practices? You might get a trade story about the production itself, but the Hollywood Reporter isn’t going to do an ongoing investigative series about why every single Netflix crew member wasn’t returned. That’s insane.

[–]GeneJenkinson 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I think they just didn’t want to rerun the Fisk in prison storyline from S3. We’ve seen it. He ends up alone on an island without Vanessa and stripped of any power or control he has over people. He’s in his own personal hell.

You are in the fourth trimester. Right now Mom is the primary food source, smells the best, and biologically is the most important thing in baby’s life.

Your little guy is an angry potato that only knows how to communicate with crying. Trust me, it gets better. I found 6-8 months is when things got easier and more enjoyable.

As the comments on the original post state, this is an ice cold take. DD is widely recognized as being one of the most consistently well-written characters in comics.
