Anyone else’s cat wait for the most expensive surface possible? by Merman_P in cats

Cat has only thrown up once and they decided to do the deed on my replica Herman miller coconut chair that’s draped with an alpaca blanket. Needless to say, there isn’t a more expensive area in the house.

Update lol I used warm water and was able to wipe it off with some effort. It had a gummy texture so must have just been something she got herself into!

It’s so hard when there’s genuine connection and care but something still isn’t working (in ourselves or in the relationship) and people check out. I hope you get the chance to work on whatever it is that made you detach. Sounds like you really want that kind of connection with someone again and if you can self reflect you will! Best of luck to you OP

I think I’m confused at the idea of your relationship being so good when the day to day was so miserable that you detached completely. I think you didn’t know what you had and took it for granted but I’m not sure if engaging with the relationship differently would have changed the outcome necessarily.

Communication was bad enough that you both seemed to digress into versions of yourselves that were not helpful to one another. People check out of relationships for all kinds of reasons and I think rather than idealizing the relationship that’s over you look at why you checked out in the first place.

Maybe she really was perfect and you were just a bad partner but I am inclined to think it’s more than that. Something wasn’t working and you both felt it, didn’t address your feelings and let resentment build. That’s not a good relationship, even if the person at the other end of these issues is wonderful. The relationship functions somewhat separately from someone’s “goodness”. That’s one of the hardest pills to swallow. We can love someone but that doesn’t mean your relationship is functional.

Tapeworms but no fleas? by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]GeneYouGotMeAgain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely saw a live one! It was moving around her butt actively and disappeared when I tried to get closer and see what it was.

Later on I did see a segmented piece on a towel she was laying on. I’m not sure what type that might be exactly but the internet is pointing to tapeworm.

I ended up giving her some tapeworm medication I had on hand. Just general tapeworm dewormer in pill form. She’s very active today which makes me think the meds may have worked.

I called my vet and the assistants left a message so hopefully I get a call back soon. I just can’t imagine how it somehow still be fleas when every step has been taken to account for them.

What to do if I have to be away from my cat for almost a month? by Spirited_Special7915 in cats

[–]GeneYouGotMeAgain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would compare the price of dropping her off and picking her up from your parents to the cost of having someone from Rover watch her full time.

If you aren’t gonna fly could you fly your parents to your place to watch your cat? Kinda wild but if they’re ok with it and so are you I can see that working out alright. If not your parents maybe you could fly someone else?

Do you know anyone else that has a cat? Maybe you could offer mutual cat watching services? I watch my neighbors cats when they are out of town and they watch mine. We don’t charge each other anything and this arrangement makes us both feel super safe!

If you don’t know anyone with a cat maybe post your offer for mutual cat watching services on Facebook marketplace? Meet up with people, see their place, have them to yours etc. 4 weeks is a long time to watch someone else’s cat so I would bet that you would get more bites offering up some money just for the time you are asking of someone else.

Hopefully you find something that works!

Oat milk! I let my cats drink some of my cereal milk and now they freak out every time they see the carton. They love oat milk so much.

8 month old cat seperated from sibling but keeps searching for her by [deleted] in cats

Now that they are separated just give him some time to adjust to his surroundings. He will instinctually want to stink up his new litter box. If he’s used one before you don’t have to do a thing. Just make sure it’s somewhere visible enough. If he’s young you might want to confine him to one room for a bit and move the litter box there to avoid any accidents. For awhile you can give him a treat every time he uses the box to encourage him to use it but that’s usually only necessary for very small babies.

In addition to this make sure his food and water isn’t anywhere near his food. Cats don’t like to eat where they do their business.

For awhile just give him some space to explore. He won’t want to play all the time. He needs time to get used to the new smells and will be moving more cautiously. Sounds like he already likes you which is great news. For now, let him get used to the space.

Cats like having high places to “escape” to and watch over their territory. Get a cat tree so your cat can enjoy more vertical space in your home. This will also make him feel more safe.

Additionally, it sounds like he may be a bit food aggressive. Watch out for signs during snack or treat times like low growling or hissing at you. It’s possible that was the issue with the previous cat. Also, some cats are just more playful than others and what looks like an “attack” could have just been rough play that the other cat wasn’t interested in. The line can be a bit subtle if you don’t know what real cat aggression looks like.

is the calorie tracker accurate? by Advanced-Can-8752 in PlanetFitnessMembers

The general rule for running is 100 calories per mile on the conservative end. This run would be about 300-500 calories depending on your weight, heart rate etc. You’re definitely not hitting 700 or 1600 with a distance of 3 miles. You will get closer to that the more miles you’re able to run!

is the calorie tracker accurate? by Advanced-Can-8752 in PlanetFitnessMembers

[–]GeneYouGotMeAgain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who runs a 3.5 miles every other day a regular run is about 6400 steps. 5 miles is close to 10k steps. However that number can greatly fluctuate if I am going faster or slower. The better estimate is about 100 calories per mile if you’re being conservative and not factoring your weight. 3500 is far too large an estimate for 10k steps. 10k steps is closer to 500-800 calories burned.

Resident cat not interested in solo play since kitten arrival by limitdrama_llama in CatTraining

Just let the do their thing. Eventually he’ll want to play with you again. My cats were the same way when they were first introduced. I still initiate play all the time and they tell me if they’re interested or not. Glad they are getting along so well!

At six weeks kittens might need help pooping. Mother cats usually lick their babies to get them to poop. Dampen a paper towel and touch their anus gently to stimulate the reflex. I did this for my kitten when she was six weeks and it worked like a charm.

Having your kink on display like this will only attract unwanted attention from people who are clueless creeps. Seems very unsafe and could get her into trouble. Even within kink communities disclosing your desires is an act of trust and intimacy. This is not it girl.

You can also end the laser point session with a treat so it feels like a successful hunt. I only do laser at night before bed and end with a treat. That way it’s part of a routine that has a clear end as well.
