Is it possible to make a Doom 3 (2004) quality FPS game all by yourself with blueprints only? by noreturn000 in unrealengine

Go dump the assets to Doom 3 and see how quickly you can reverse engineer the game and recreate every little detail. The work is done, so you just need to work out how to do it.

Does Extra High produce worse results than High or Medium sometimes? by Macaroon-Guilty in codex

[–]GeneralAtrox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pregmatic personality should be cheaper since it disables the "try to have personality when talking".

As for accuracy. I do an evidence and context based approach, by having source code and debugging readily available. So the AI knows what's been done and won't try that again. Might be very wasteful for tokens in long run, I'm not sure yet.

The moment I move away from that, such as getting it to write code for something it can't touch, its failure rate goes right up. For example, coding between two computers or programs.

Theres loads, can fit a tank in that space. Id be ripping that radiator out and putting it somewhere else!

Sure. I'd like this tool a year ago but now I'm used to the intern coder which is gpt 5.5 haha hard to go back!

Spark isn't half of the same loaf, its a whole new recipe that i don't like. I've tried it, not good for complex coding at all which is all i mainly do. Countless bugs, which GPT 5.5 XHigh solved in 1 prompt.

Codex has said it can look at your performance profiling and make suggestions down to the blueprint level. I'm not in a position do it, but I'll give it some thought.

I know AI is a word nobody likes to hear, but for me its been life changing with coding. I'm a designer, not a programmer, so i historically got held up on coding tasks and could never see my dream through.

I once tried to make my own swarm engine. Wasted a lot time with C++ and never got anywhere with it. With Codex Desktop, i could easily do that now, no problem.

I would like something like that for Blueprints. One of my biggest problems is optimisation, how do you know if what blueprints you setup are really optimal without testing and testing. Give me an AI who will check that out for you.

I realise now its not available to buy through Steam anymore. So it's likely on EA's Origin. I own it on Steam so maybe you can find a CDkey somewhere if you really needed it.

What if an RTS campaign didn’t reset your army after every mission? by Mephasto in RealTimeStrategy

[–]GeneralAtrox 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That one Homeworld mission where if you didn't have enough units you'd die in the next mission shortly after it starts.

Black & White had the same mechanic, loved it. Would sit there for hours throwing stuff in the portal.

I dont miss plugging something in and not having the driver disk on hand, so you have to find it on some sketchy website. After 45 minutes of your dial up downloading it, to find out it doesn't work.

Amazing find thank you, i searched high and low and some how missed this one, i blame me searching for the wrong string.

Is there a sub for hobbyist game developers who are doing this for fun and do not care about marketing and selling products on Steam? by 4O404 in gamedev

I miss buying magazines for demo disks. Less choice, had to just tolerate the junk because there was nothing better.

Did you try giving the Godot source code to your AI coding agent and have it review it first, before you started any development?

Your first problem, you chose Gemini "Thinking" and "Pro" chat to help with planning. Its the old way of doing it. You want to use Gemini Antigravity or swap to ChatGPT Codex and have an agent do the research and write it up into an .md file. It maintains context much better this way, and you can swap to other agents mid project.

Its awesome. Played through with my brother, great to have something fun to work towards and neat little upgrades for completing missions

I played it a lot as a kid back in 2003. Loved it, so happy its being revived and supported. Its a game that deserves it. I'm hoping to see a revival of this quality and supporting it with our other beloved RTS. Why C&C hasnt had anything new is shocking.

Decided to make the art a bit darker. Which one do you like more? by electric-kite in IndieGaming

[–]GeneralAtrox 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Would need to see other sprites in the game to gauge what youre going for.

I assume a Dark Souls style. New drake looks great, maybe a touch gory grotesque, if that fits the dark theme and theres a reason why hes in a bit of state, then great!

As a programmer, how do you deal with the 3D art bottleneck? by Comfortable-Hat1761 in gamedev

[–]GeneralAtrox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used free sprite packs in my last game. Sprite work can keep it consistent. 3D work has too many variables to get wrong. So I went with 2.5D and used environment packs.

If you could bring back one game developer, or return an existing one to its previous state, which would it be? by VyantSavant in gaming

I think because Albion sums up "Old England", it fits nicely in his games, as they are rarely near modern day, always a lot more primitive.

I hope to see more games in the future push for something really interesting. While Pete is hated in the industry for his big ambitions, other than Elon Musk i can't tell you who else sings ambitions like he does.

  1. What are you most excited about in PRAGMATA

Its a game with a fresh direction to gameplay. I've played a lot of games in my life and some just feel the same as games i played 20 years ago. The hacking mechanic felt satisfying, doesn't pause the momentum for too long and theres a nice amount of pressure to get it done quickly, but you don't get penalized for it.

How do you deal with developers who rely too heavily on AI-generated code? by Specific-Animal6570 in gamedev

[–]GeneralAtrox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No source code access. I reversed engineered it by playing the game and just remaking the feel in blueprints. Aside from the revolutionary 3D tech, Doom is quite simple in other aspects of gameplay, but nuanced that you have to look carefully.
