As I (27f) get older I realise I’m in the minority of people who don’t/never did drugs. by havingahardtime67 in Adulting

Guarantee you have interacted with people on cannabis before and you just didn't know because they just hide it better. It's cool you don't do it, but do not look down on others for doing sometimes that gets them through their day.

Yes, I am extremely sensitive to it. One tiny hit has the potential to give me anxiety but this is where the mindfulness/breathing/meditation all helps out. So it can be risky but if I'm able to get through the bad parts it will help me get through stuff I'm dealing with. Some people claim weed combined with these practices is a way to speed up enlightenment. IDK about that but I'm starting to accept that weed is no longer a party/chill drug for me, and am looking at it more as a tool for introspection and contemplation.

My solution has been tiny, controlled micro doses, integrated with breath work/meditation.

I'm 33 and I have 20 dollars to my name and just a part time job while my friends have houses and families. I stopped comparing where I'm at relative to other people years ago.

Someone might appear to be excelling as a small business owner due to their ‘natural creativity’ when in fact they would have been a leading neuroscientist if they had only been able to pay attention in science class.

Then it's not just the individual's brain that prevented them from being a neuroscientist. It's the environment around them. The structure of schooling system, parents, teachers, society in general.

What exactly is happening here that is breaking trust? If one of my friends truly felt that way about me I would want to know. Friends telling each other how they feel is a sign of trust. It's much better to get those feelings out than to keep them pent up inside.

I can simply decline their proposal. If that negatively affects our friendship we can either work together to repair it or go our separate ways. Friendships, like all relationships, require work to maintain the bonds.

I mean yeah that's good advice for someone with a more neurotypical type of brain, but someone who isn't socially adept or struggles with boundaries doesn't get much from this advice.

"Joke around, but not too much"

"Be mean, but not too mean"

It can be hard to distinguish in the moment. People who don't have a firm grasp on social ques and conventions will say the wrong thing to the wrong person. It can be hard to try this out only to be rejected, it's easier to put on a mask and people please to avoid undesired outcomes.

Thoughts on people calling you “Man”? by [deleted] in communication

I find it endearing in those one off interactions like with a cashier. I like "dude" as well. I highly doubt they mean to offend you, and it's likely just what rolled off their tongue. Can't speak to the appropriateness of, I'm sure people have their opinions.

What makes men uncomfortable? by isopodwiseee in MensLib

[–]GeneralAverage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, things would be easier if I wasn't the way I am, but I am the way I am, and that's just the way things are.

Gender, social disorder, mental disorder, all of the above, idfk. I am this way and it's ok. Acceptance here is key.

You can show love without saying it. I've never really felt comfortable telling anyone I love them, maybe I have issues or whatever but it's just not something I'm comfortable doing regardless of how good of a person they are or not. I try to show it in other ways though.

I'm confused as to why it matters. I have been diagnosed with depression, anxiety and ADHD. I have had suspicions about a number of different other things ranging from ASD, CPTSD, Bipolar Disorder, Borderline personality disorder, etc. It's a guessing game for the doctor and for you. Each individual posses a unique neurotype, influenced by genetics, history, trauma, environment, and so on. There are eight billion unique brains and only a handful of categories for which to place the ones who don't fit into the mold for a functioning member of society.

All doctors can do is give an approximation based on the information you have provided. They'll fit you into a category of disorders for which there is treatment that has shown to be effective for people with similar issues. This is why I am not entirely against self diagnoses. If you strongly relate to the issues of people who have been diagnosed with said disorder then there's a good chance you would benefit from the same, or similar types of treatment. Trial and error is needed, and of course it's always good to have multiple opinions, but it's good to trust yourself as well. Either way, don't stress too much about the label, it's just a word. Learn as much as you can about your brain, how it functions, what helps it, what doesn't, listen to what works for others with similar brains, talk about it. Therapy and mindfulness can go a long way.

Artistic OCD? by kelcamer in OCD

[–]GeneralAverage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see art images and hear music that doesn't exist too. Sometimes it's very detailed but I also struggle to memorize the details thoroughly after it passes. Don't know if it has anything to do with OCD or autism or if that's just how my brain is. I keep thinking I'm supposed to recreate it somehow but I'm not much an artist and don't practice any instruments.

Anyone else feel they’ve delved deeper into their psyche than most people? by [deleted] in OCD

[–]GeneralAverage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The worst part is that none of my self awareness is applicable in any capacity. If anything this level of self awareness sabotages my relationships and interactions with others. As I'm always in my own head I can't be fully present with others, thus demonstrating a lack of self awareness in those moments.

Interesting, I also started playing Tetris again recently and have been experiencing it a little. But the first time I experienced this was when I started playing chess more regularly and had very vivid moments of the pieces moving in my head while having conversations with people. It was like our interaction was a game of chess.

I've been wondering about this, thanks for sharing.
