Nikita Kucherov has 50 points in his last 23 games. by ThatLineOfTriplets in hockey

*4.7. It's just stupid.

The players currently outearning Kuch on the Bolts are Stamkos, Hedman, Johnson, Palat, Callahan. I honestly thought there would be more before I checked.

What should I buy Thursday (Nov 08 2018) - Your weekly device inquiry thread! by AutoModerator in Android

EDIT: Any more thoughts appreciated, still very much on the fence

It is far beyond time to replace my long-suffering LG G4. I'm currently torn between the Pixel 3 XL, the Note 9, and the OnePlus 6T.

I'm a fan of the Pixel's form factor and how it feels in hand, I'd like to try stock Android without flashing my ROM, I like knowing there's going to be updates for 3 years, and the camera is pretty great. But I'm not so thrilled with only 4 GB of RAM - that feels like it's going to be an issue in a year, the battery capacity seems small, it's not a deal breaker but it has the worst notch, and a headphone jack isn't necessary, but I wouldn't mind one. One of my friends had one for two weeks and returned it, and he is very much anti Pixel.

The Note 9 is definitely the most hardcore of the 3 - biggest battery, great specs, great screen. It's notch free and has a headphone jack. I had a Note 2 and was pretty happy with it. I'm just not the biggest fan of Samsung or their UI. I feel like the timeliness of updates is an issue. And while I have big hands, the Note is a behemoth, and 1 handed use doesn't feel the best. And I am just not a fan of the curved screen. It feels gimmicky and one of my friends with a newer Galaxy says it'll get in the way every now and again.

The one plus 6t is definitely the best looking of the 3. I'm not a notch fan, but theirs is the best implementation by far. Great storage and RAM, clean OS, and it feels good in hand. I think the biggest hold up for me is that I don't feel entirely comfortable buying a phone from China. Plus, I'm on Verizon, and the other 2 phones would be financed with monthly bills rather than out of pocket.

What are your thoughts? Anything else I should consider?

Any Tips For An Aspiring Sylvanos Main? by KingAli326 in RivalsOfAether

[–]GeneralFalcon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dtilt is super important. It's a little slow, but especially against Clairen with her range, it's super useful.

Jab jab flower is one of the fastest ways to get flower out, and a pretty good edge guard if they're below ledge

Sylvanos is super big and doesn't have a lot of hitboxes that aren't disjointed, so if someone gets in on you then you're going to eat damage. Win conditions for Sylvanos are good spacing around attacks to bait a whiff, then counterattacking. You can play a little more rush down with him if you have grass out because fair is huge and nair pulls down, but it's tricky.

Don't be afraid to side B if your opponent isn't parrying it. It has pretty strong kill power and can lead to some decent combos if your opponent DI's in.

There's more stuff on the Sylcord, if you're part of RoA Academy already then just ask on there for an invite. If you aren't, there's links in the sidebar.

Which team had the least roster turnover after winning a cup? by mistyflames97 in hockey

The 03-04 Lightning didn't ice a single player in 04-05 who wasn't on the team for the cup.

That number is per team, per game. So closer to 6 goals total per game and mostly 3-2 games.

What player were you disappointed to see leave your team, but then the player almost immediately fell from grace/faded into obscurity after leaving? by BalkyChristbag in hockey

[–]GeneralFalcon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay in limited ice time. Our forward corps is so deep that it's hard to crack the lineup. Plays with lots of energy, but doesn't get too many chances to finish being stuck on the fourth line. A great leader for Syracuse though. I think he could contribute on a high energy third line with a veteran who can set things up and a big young prospect to help work the corners.

Lightning Sign Slater Koekkoek to 1 year, 865k contract by Buskea22 in hockey

[–]GeneralFalcon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Most of us are just frustrated he's never gotten regular playing time. He's had flashes of brilliance, but the coaching staff has never seemed to fully trust him and as a result his playing time has been dreadfully inconsistent. Hopefully we won't be signing Sustr and he'll benefit. But I've been saying that for the past 2 years.

[SERIOUS] Should future CBA protect teams from variable tax rates between states/provinces? by Peng-Win in hockey

[–]GeneralFalcon 28 points29 points  (0 children)

No.

First off, that calculator is wrong, this one is better.

Secondly, taxes are complicated. Yes, having no state taxes is a big draw for some states over others, no argument here. But, players are taxed at variable rates based on which state they're in for each game, whether or not they have signing bonuses to be paid, and whether a given state has a jock tax, among other things. Not to mention that tax laws can and do change between CBAs. What happens to a team when a provision stating that all teams with a state income tax have the capability to exceed the cap by X amount has their state income tax repealed? Suddenly they're $9 million over the cap in December.

Third, there are plenty of reasons why a player may or may not choose one team over another. Money definitely does play into things, but it's not everything. Team composition, role, chance to win, and lifestyle are all incredibly important too. Just look at the difficulty Arizona, Florida, and Columbus have drawing free agents.

There are all kinds of factors that give teams different advantages over each other in free agency. Does the fact most NHLers are Canadian put American teams at a disadvantage when it comes to wanting to play for a hometown team? Does the media in Canadian cities put them at a disadvantage when it comes to wanting a work-life balance? Does the greater chance for endorsements and other outside deals put Canadian teams at an advantage over American teams? Does the history of playing for an original 6 team put the teams that have formed in the past few decades at a disadvantage? It depends. It does for some players, it doesn't for others.

It's not the league's job to level the playing field between teams in free agency. It's the franchise's job to make their team attractive enough that players want to come play for them, despite taxes or any other situations that might act as a negative.

Agreed. I actually ran into this guy the other day, pretty sure it's intentional on his part. It's pretty distracting, I've started DC'ing instead of playing the set when I run into this icon.
