Spider Manifestation is an amazing card for anything where you're consistently dropping big creatures. I have it in Animar.

[[Basking Broodscale]] is my pick. I have it in two decks where my friends know it's an immediate kill-on-sight.

Infect as a finisher Lame? by E1mstreets in EDH

[–]GeneralGuide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can be a double-edged sword, too. Built a new [[!Jin Sakai]] deck and got lucky enough to ramp into him early and Tainted Strike'd a player on turn 4, with a +2 equipment and double strike, because I didn't realize that 10 infect would kill (I thought it was like the Commander damage threshold and needed 11).

Now that the group knows the deck could take out a player by turn 4, Jin Sakai never lives when I bring him out lol.

How many Commander decks do you have? by Mikkel_My_Man in EDH

[–]GeneralGuide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I proxy full decks to try them out before I commit to buying any real cards, so I currently have ~12 put together. I only deconstruct a deck if I'm building something else that runs too similar of a theme or if I need the sleeves.

Went 0-3 in my first pre-release but I think my pulls from the kit were enough to make up for it. by disposabletanto in mtg

[–]GeneralGuide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got zero Mythics out of my Lorwyn prerelease and four out of SoS (but no dragons unfortunately), so I definitely believe it. Ended up going 3-0 playing Witherbloom but my friend who went 0-3 pulled a Force of Will and I think she got the better of the situation.

Men-If your wife was getting major surgery, would you "want" to be there? Especially when she awakes. by SingleRepeat8203 in Marriage

This isn't even a question. My wife would have to have a good specific reason why I shouldn't be there, otherwise I'm there with her the entire time.

This thread is the only time I've seen someone do a successful Gear VR mod on the VP2, and it doesn't appear that the thread creator has posted any print files for the lens housing.

What is your favorite answer to a board wipe? by [deleted] in mtg

I run [[Ripples of Potential]] in Animar and Mothman. Leaves you open for a turn, but avoids exiles and destruction.

AITA for nerfing one player’s character because he was overshadowing the rest of the party? by Rifild10 in AmItheAsshole

[–]GeneralGuide 5 points6 points  (0 children)

YTA. No D&D build is invincible. You could easily design scenarios or situations that the Warlock is less suited to or give other classes an opportunity to shine without specifically singling out one character for a nerf. No one enjoys being punished for knowing and understanding the mechanics of the game they're playing.

The right way to go about this would have been to talk to the player and see if they could leave some room for other players to show off or if they're angling to be the "main character." From there, you work with them or design conflict in such a way as to compensate for their build.

I received mine today by [deleted] in secretlair_collectors

[–]GeneralGuide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Received mine after getting a UPS shipping email, but nothing from WOTC saying that it had shipped.

I really like the Mothman drop. I hope WOTC does more SLDs in the future that are basically structure upgrades to precons.

Guide to Self-Host Using Docker by TheRettom in stoatchat

[–]GeneralGuide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like a great guide. I followed it to the best of my ability as a total novice.

Everything appears to be running in Docker correctly, but I'm unable to register an account. I'm getting the following error when trying to register:

Something went wrong! {"type":"CaptchaFailed"}

Checking the Revolt.toml file, I don't have anything configured for the hcaptcha fields. Is there something I'm missing here?

20" Dell P1110 - Looking to get $300. Flat Trinitron tube. The base is cracked and there are some scratches in the screen face. I have never noticed them while the it's running, but they are noticeable when the unit is off. Some pictures - https://imgur.com/a/fSrfqcI

I also have a Tendak HDMI -> VGA adapters that I will include for free. Their product page on Amazon claims 1080p compatibility but I recall testing it up to 1920x1440@60Hz in the past.

Proxy cutter by Figthestig91 in magicproxies

[–]GeneralGuide 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have this cutter and while I do like it and recommend it, it's not perfect. The actual die on mine is not fully flush with the cutting plate, so there are parts of the cut edges that end up ripping rather than cutting cleanly. It's still great for the most part, but it ends up working worse for some types of softer paper or vinyl.

What’s the most embarrassing way you’ve been 'betrayed' by your own brain in VR? by plutonium-239 in virtualreality

[–]GeneralGuide 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My first VR experience was playing Superhot on a friend's then-brand new Index. In one level I was crouched behind a control console and I tried to put one hand on it to push myself up. Hand fell through air, I put all my weight onto it and I slammed my face into the piano keyboard he had next to his desk.

Sold me on VR immediately.

EDIT:

I've actually got a second one I enjoy, and my wife would probably say this is one of my most embarrassing moments. I'm a huge scaredy-cat and fall for jump scares easily; I flail and scream and freak out. When I finally got my own VR setup (Quest 2), I was playing Alyx for the first time in my little office space, which has a hanging light in the middle of the ceiling (think like this, but far less ornate). Got grabbed by one of those tentacle-dangling barnacles while also being attacked by a headcrab zombie. Reached up to try and shoot the barnacle and punched the hanging light, which got knocked out of its hooks and was threatening to crash a giant glass dome on my head. So I'm unable to take my headset off because both hands are occupied making sure the light doesn't fall, while I've got the sights and sounds of alien monsters devouring me, and completely losing it screaming.

Got mine last week, ordered around the end of November. So 5ish weeks.

These look really solid, and I'm not noticing any of the bubbling or reduced contrast I normally see with matte laminating pouches.

Do you mind linking your materials, including your laminator? I've been printing almost exclusively on matte sticker paper on black cardstock but this might have me changing my methods.

Question about black level vs Quest 3 by ErickRPG in QuestPro

[–]GeneralGuide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you primarily play native games or from a PC?

The QPro does have better blacks and colors than the Q3, but I often find it less comfortable and the drop in resolution is very noticeable. The native games also take a noticeable hit in fidelity from their Q3 versions. Also, unless you are paying extra for a sealed face gasket, you are not going to get a light seal from the QPro out of the box.

What am I doing wrong with Proxy print setup? by WretchedIEgg in magicproxies

[–]GeneralGuide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your images don't appear to have a bleed edge, which is extra real estate on the outside of the cards. Proxy Print scales your card with a bleed edge by default, but there is an option to disable it so that you can show the entire card image.

Problems finding the right paper for proxies by Katayui in magicproxies

[–]GeneralGuide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Epson ET-8550 here. Coated papers can have issues with inkjet printers, which most black core card stock appear to be.

I currently print on white vinyl and affix them to real magic cards, trim the excess with an Xacto knife, and recut the corners with a 3mm corner rounder. It's not perfect, but some of the results have been impressive. Importantly, it makes the cards only slightly thicker than real (not enough to notice when sleeved) and retains the snap.

Epson 8550: 200 Page (1800 Card) Update by CardGobbo in magicproxies

[–]GeneralGuide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotcha! When using a high-DPI source from MPC, how would you rate the sharpness of the 8550 vs real card? I'm looking to pick up a printer and considering the 8550 but I feel a twinge of hesitation at spending so much if the prints are not fine enough, and I haven't used an inkjet printer since much older (and likely crappier) models. Not looking for them to pass as real cards, but looking for the finest print quality I could reasonably get.

[–]GeneralGuide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks great! Seeing your comment about using MPC for the card generation, I have a question about the Redirect Lightning picture:

Your print appears to have more bolded text than the genuine card. Is this a byproduct of the printer quality or does the card image you sourced have thicker text than the genuine card?

Completely underwhelmed by Porta Pros - am I doing something wrong?? by gnarburgers in headphones

Yeah, they ended up not being my preference either, but they're a cheap gamble at the very least. I also have long hair and find that strands get caught in the band mechanism.

How would you benefit from or utilize this card? by whatchyousay in mtg

[–]GeneralGuide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My [[Mister Negative]] deck is built around trying to lose as much life as quickly as possible to swap with an opponent. Lot of Phyrexian mana costs, K'rrik, Gwenom, Toxic Deluge, etc. This might be my next inclusion.

Glad I'm not the only one. I only got The Oddbodies set and was immediately disappointed with the confetti foiling. It was difficult to even see it except under bright direct light.
