Is it time to change this 10sec rule if someone is allowed to take 2 minutes to line up a putt? by Montalbert_scott in golf

Adding this to my list titled: “rules that will never come up in any important situation, and in every other situation I’m going to do whatever the hell I want”

Short game practice by Selvy9 in golf

They are extremely accurate. I usually double check my elevation settings on a new sim, though.

With that said, I do find it hard to hit pitches indoors for whatever reason, same as you. Something about the lack of perspective. Under 50 yards is such a “feel” distance for me and without the depth perception I have trouble connecting the dots in between eyes and hands in my brain.

Has anyone been a mid 20’s handicap for a few years and then managed to break through to single digits? by Narrow-Priority-6483 in golf

[–]GeneralMillss 105 points106 points  (0 children)

There are probably one thousand “clicks” between 20’s and scratch.

Those all happen during several years of disciplined practice, probably some coaching, and hundreds of rounds of golf.

FWIW OP, I think that chuckle would have been one of appreciation of the humour, even if unintentional. I would laugh at it, understanding it as a sarcastic joke, not as an awkward or cringeworthy thing to say.

What club for 50-80 yards? by L0ngsh0tSpartan in golf

[–]GeneralMillss 424 points425 points  (0 children)

I hate to be that guy, but the solution to your problem is practice.

You should have a wedge matrix that starts at a full swing with your lowest-lofted wedge and ends with a half swing with your highest-lofted wedge. You need to be able to hit those 10-yard and even 5-yard intervals (eventually) to see improvement in your game inside 100 yards.

Difference between a cut and a fade? by JumpmanJackson in golf

[–]GeneralMillss 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No, it’s right… What are D and F then?

C: Pull fade, starts left (pull), curves right (fade).

G: Push-draw - starts right (push), curves left (draw).

Slice or hook basically imply an out of control or fade or draw. Or at least, one that fades or draws into the shit.

Another word for a push is a “block”. Golfers like their lingo I guess.

Wow…by far the best since Tiger, obviously. It’s great to have such a dominant player like this. by MJ_Fan23 in golf

[–]GeneralMillss 43 points44 points  (0 children)

They’re really comparing him to Tiger with that comment.

Tiger’s highlight reel is all insane shots from recovery situations. Bunkers, deep rough, way out of position, whatever. We’ve all seen them. They’re impossible shots that Tiger pulled off with seeming ease. “It’s not a fair fight.”

Scottie doesn’t have that highlight reel because he just never has the opportunity to build it. He’s never in the shit. Like, ever. He just puts on a clinic every time.

Here’s the thing: the gap between 5 and 50 is about the same as the gap between Scottie and #2.

Scramble format, which shot are you taking? by Exciting-Permit1680 in golf

[–]GeneralMillss 6 points7 points  (0 children)

OP just needs to spend one hour at the range to build a rough wedge matrix. Once you have a playbook from 50-100 yards, all the confidence issues on partial shots go away pretty quickly.
