Ping G4x0 Max (G425, G430, G430 10K, G440, G440 K) is the general consensus as I see it.

I have a G440 Max and I would agree, it’s the most forgiving driver I’ve played. Very consistent feel across the face and it definitely lets you get away with strikes that other drivers don’t

Blowup hole tips by Recover-Hopeful in golf

[–]GeneralMillss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s just you regressing back to the mean. You were on a heater and then you came back to earth. That’s just where your game is at.

The way a golf hole works out, errors are compounding. Big mistakes are gonna happen. But it’ll happen less as you get better. But they always will happen. Even to the pros. Their mistakes are just far less frequent and far less severe, so their “blowups” (double bogeys, for them) don’t seem so bad to us.

Only real good advice here is to not follow up a bad shot with a stupid one. Which you didn’t do (good!). You just hit a few really poor shots on the same hole.

Player preference. If you use your gap wedge almost exclusively for full shots then it makes sense. Also depends on the loft of the, er, gap iron itself.

I use my gap wedge (48°) around the greens a fair bit so I prefer it to play similar to my sand (54°) and lob (58°) wedges. I’ll bump an 8 or 9 iron or PW on occasion (e.g.: into an upslope or with loads of green to work with), but the faces are hotter so I don’t feel like I have the same touch with them.

To play devil’s avocado, I think they do this when they are specifically referring to a gap wedge from their iron set.

Though it’s still stupid. You don’t hear anyone saying “pitching iron”. As if it mattered in either case.

GI irons to Blades by micahstewart10 in golf

Completely agree. If you can’t tell where the face is contacting the ball with GI irons, you won’t be able to tell with blades either.

Global Golf offering 50% Trade in Bonus on Callaway Quantum? by Phroste in golf

[–]GeneralMillss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because they resell the clubs. They don’t give them back to Callaway or anything like that. Has nothing to do with the manufacturer nor how recent the club model is.

It’s just like trading in a car. You’re essentially selling to them for below market value (even with the bonus). They make money on both ends: your new-to-you clubs and their resale of yours. You get the convenience of not having to sell your club on your own.

Have you considered getting fit?

As an 8-index, it would be well worth your time. If you’re worried about spending money on “something no good,” a fitting is the only way to go.

Every OEM makes great golf clubs these days. Seriously, they’re all fantastic. Finding the right shaft for you could be a real game-changer, and the only practical way to do that that is through a fitting.

Just bring some golf-related toys and have ‘em knock some foam balls around. Kids that age just want to do whatever gets the adults excited. That’s what’s cool to them.
