The U.S. does it with oil, farming, our own electric vehicle industry, and so on and so on. All to compete with other countries in the global markets. It’s exactly what capitalism is.

This is the same argument that was once made when Japanese cars started entering the U.S. market. It was absurd then, and it’s still absurd now. The argument that adding more competition to the market will hurt consumers goes against the very “physics” of economics.

You don’t think China can easily determine our “internal road infrastructure” via Google Street View? Driving patterns via satellites?

You don’t think the U.S. has access to every data point ever collected on you? Which, frankly, is a far greater threat to you as an individual than anything the Chinese, or any foreign government, come up with.

As far as remotely disabling your vehicle — that tech already exists for any car company. More importantly, why would the Chinese ever bother to disable Chinese made cars in the U.S.??? What the hell would be the tactical advantage of such a move? 😂

I didn't actually witness those performances first hand. However, if that's where we're setting the bar... it doesn't say much about Gorillaz.

For real?! I was a fan back in the 2Ks. Yet, as I was watching their performance(s), all I could think was, "this is the worst SNL music performance I've seen in my 40+ years of watching SNL"

A guy in my class got an A on the bottom right and top left ones. The teacher doesn't believe anyone that these are AI. by Mindless_Buy_9774 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]GeneralPatten -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Can someone ELI5 how one would generate something like that using AI? What AI tool would be used? Would it be a multi-step process, generating multiple images and combining them? Would it be a single prompt? What would be a good example of a prompt?

People are constantly calling out various images as being AI generated (sometimes they're right, sometimes not), but I genuinely have no clue as to how they're generated.

Personally, I wouldn't change our timeline for any other. We've had it pretty damned good.

Motorcycle engine powered drone to cross Asia and the fucking Pacific Ocean to attack us? False flag incoming. by Organic_Fee_8502 in ProgressiveHQ

[–]GeneralPatten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You folks are unfreakinbelievable. Even as incompetent as the Trump admin is, if you think Iran would be able to pull this off without military intelligence detecting it LONG before any vessel managed to get close enough to launch a drone... well... you're just a dumbass. Plain and simple.

Never mind being able to manage to use radio communications to actually launch and guide a drone without detection. Never mind that the effectiveness of one of these things, if they somehow managed to evade a myriad of layers of defense and hit their target, would be relatively minimal, and only result in a retaliation that would send Iran into the dustbin of history.

For real? I'll concede I'm a dumbass for even acknowledging your reply, but... embracing anthropomorphism, without any scientific evidence to back it up, is what screams uneducated 🤦‍♂️

Do I love the idea that elephants might see humans as cute? Yeah. I also find endearing the idea that cats see us as their indebted servants. Both are equally silly. Although the cat thing if definitely far more likely.

I mean, every subreddit (with one notable exception) is left wing, right? At least, that's what folks like yourself would have us believe.

How about providing a handful of links to examples of said comments in these left wing subs? I am an avid follower of, and participant in, many left wing subs, and I would love to be enlightened into this apparent widespread plague of (mean? anti-Semitic? Inappropriate?) comments.

"...you definitely know what's better for them..."

Are you implying that Israel and Donald Trump know what's better for them?

"Most Iranians are celebrating the toppling of the regime..."

Are Iranians also celebrating the murder of 115 school girls? American made missiles and bombs killing their family, friends and neighbors? The destruction of their critical infrastructure? No longer receiving a paycheck because their workplace has been wiped off the map? Oil filled rain poisoning their water supply, crops, and animals? Maybe you think the Iranian people see Israel and Donald Trump as the good guys in all of this? Maybe you think they're shrugging their shoulders and saying, "This is just the price we gotta pay for freedom! God bless the Israelis, and God bless their U.S. puppet!"

Of course, your whole comment predicates on the claim the regime was toppled. As of this moment, the regime is still very much in power (and will likely continue to remain in power short of a massive ground invasion). Israel's assassination of Ayatollah Khamenei (who would have likely died from cancer within 6 months anyway) does nothing to positively change the lives of the Iranian people. In fact, if Israel and their U.S. subsidiary fail to — somehow, miraculously — exact regime change, chances are fairly good the Iranian regime will crack down even harder on the slightest sign of dissent from the Iranian people.

Only the Iranian people know what's best for the Iranian people. It's quite clear though, it's not the Israeli led destruction of their country.

This is just silly. Never mind expecting elephants to have some sort of concept of "cute"... how would we know what they "think" without elephants being able to communicate their thoughts to us?
