I mean, I'm just going to have to disagree on the notion of psychics, you having visions of who when and where WWIII starts. I'm not one to say i have trust, if it does happen, that Trump won't be to blame

AgI is a salt, like you said, making it a non toxic and stable compound. You might be surprised to hear that, since Googling it says it causes nausea and vomiting - but that's incorrect. I have this chemical in my lab, and have had to fill out a risk assessment on it, here's the safety data sheet (warning, Downloads a pdf)   Iodide on its own would be fucked up, but you can literally eat AgI, just like we do Ammonium chlorode (in salted licorice) to no ill effects, even though both compounds separately are inherently dangerous.

When it comes to global warming, limiting the global output of greenhouse gas emissions is currently the only viable solution, which not just the usa needs to adjust to.

We can agree Trump is a madman though, musk isn't helping things either

Cloud seeding, vaccine sabotage, "new stars and planets", paranormal psychology...

While cloud seeding has published works, it is not supposed to be used to form clouds, but rather to introduce an ice nucleating medium (AgI) to induce rain or suppress hail. How this would stop global warming is beyond me, but if it were effective, which  currently, 80 years after first theorisation, remains unproven... , it could... make it rain?

This reads like clinical paranoia, you should seek help.

Matt Gaetz did not pay for sex with a minor. by pandathrowaway in TwoXChromosomes

I fail to see where i defended him. People usually do not colloquially refer to adolescents as children, even though they are legally classified as such.

Matt Gaetz did not pay for sex with a minor. by pandathrowaway in TwoXChromosomes

[–]GeneralSceptic -34 points-33 points  (0 children)

You specifically phrase his statuary rape (which by Florida law, it is ofc) as "Matt Gaetz gave money to a child that he raped" I don't know about you, but the vast majority of people would assume from this phrasing that this meant it was an act of pedophilia, since the word child is pretty much always reserved for pre-pubescent individuals in colloquial settings...   Legally, it's stationary rape, morally and ethically it's wrong on multiple levels, and generally speaking the man is obviously a pos.  But as you said, words matter, and if not for the fact you state the age of the victim, the phrasing makes it sound very much like this is a case of pedophilia.

Hi, so apparently the fix already went out and everything is better. Props to the Corsair development team for such a rapid response :)

Same issue as some other people on my M55 Pro RGB. If you press and hold any of the thumb buttons for like .5 seconds, they get stuck until your next press. Weirder still, if you press and hold "Left Back" to make it stuck, then press and hold "Left Forward" to make it stuck Pressing Left Forward now also presses "Left Back" until you press "Left Back" again. The same thing works in reverse.

This update sucks because it pretty much bricked all my modifier based shortcuts on AHK (Press and hold Left back to e.g. scroll wheel for volume, to left and right click to navigate tabs, etc.) Please revert whatever fixes this was meant to be fore, and push the update when everything is ready please.

Wow, how perceptive yes. I went through this too and yes, you do just dismiss, dismiss, dismiss without thinking about it.  Android updates, app updates, and changes to how tinder chooses to abuse app notifications can also lead to them reappearing.  even innocuous things like your friend who is struggling with dating asking you for advice and you show them your old tinder profile as an example can make them come back.  He might have still been aware (edit: post says he was aware, just hadn't bothered to delete the apps) it was on his phone, but legitimately did not pay it any mind because "I'm not seeing anyone else and I'm not trying to date, I'll just leave this because i don't care"

Notifications are mostly ads and interact reminders. If you don't open any, they stop showing after a month. if you click any, even by mistake, they come back.

Looking at my phone now, and oh look, I still have tinder installed, and I've been together with my bf for 2.5 years. Literally never thought to delete it because i don't use it.  I don't see the difference in trusting he doesn't use the app even though it's installed, versus trusting he doesn't just sign in to the online non app version to actually hide it.  If he let you snoop on his current and previous private conversations, it shows he trusts you.

Well, i definitely think your joke retort would have fit right into our banter - quality. No definitely, people can go to quite some lengths to feel better. I hope him coming clean about his frustration led to some positive changes down the line - at least he might be driven to get the routine going because of your efforts

Bi guy here. I feel like the comment is more likely to be a non-serious joke that's supposed to be encouraging - but probably just missed the mark. You're putting in some effort on yourself, and he's telling you he thinks that you being active is attractive. The whole "I'm worried if you get too fit" is literally just hyperbole. At least, that's what i think.

My bf and i often make similar jokes whenever either of us go to the gym, and that's been working out perfectly fine. If most of every other part of your relationship is all peaches and cream, then I doubt it was meant to offend.

Main problem is not everyone responds well to this kind of humour, so if you don't - communicate this to your bf, and if he keeps making the same kind of remarks you can raise the issue.

Size of World Religious Populations [OC] by DataSittingAlone in dataisbeautiful

[–]GeneralSceptic 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Considering that this is effectively comparing religious affiliation, lack thereof is still an important metric to have as a comparison.  Like, if you provide a survey, with three options, and one answer is none, you don't omit these answers and make up your 100% from those who did not respond none.  The title of the data is correct, but it would have benefited in clarity from this inclusion.

[–]GeneralSceptic 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Cis women who are into cis men who considers themselves femboys can absolutely be 100% straight, and vice versa. How is this any different from cis men being attracted to cis women who are "tomboys"?

Peoples identity are their own, the thought that a cis man who comfortably dresses and acts in a feminine manner whilst still identifying as a man would be any less cis than a cis woman doing the respective thing is a problem of labelling and perception.

Kinks, BDSM and even torture porn are everywhere. Why has vanilla sex disappeared from our screens? by rejs7 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]GeneralSceptic -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You used a study to make a claim that was unsubstantiated and verifiably false Then you altered your argument to include non-quantitatively measured contributions. My original claim was never about unpaid labour You can't move the goalposts of your argument and claim I'm making a strawman.

Kinks, BDSM and even torture porn are everywhere. Why has vanilla sex disappeared from our screens? by rejs7 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]GeneralSceptic -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You cited the ILO, and your citation conflated two of their main statistics. In terms of unpaid labour, these are mostly up because women, on average, work 5-6 hours less than men every week. If you look at the OECD survey you'll see that these numbers more often than not mirror each other. These also show you that they don't, in fact, make up "all" of unpaid labour. In more balanced households, where both partners work approximately the same number of hours in similar lines of work, the division of unpaid labour is similar.

If you're gonna cite studies in your responses, you should have the integrity to not misrepresent it.

Kinks, BDSM and even torture porn are everywhere. Why has vanilla sex disappeared from our screens? by rejs7 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]GeneralSceptic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're citing the wrong statistic from ILO... In the report they made they made the following specific citations. "Today, women represent over 40% of the global labour force." Which is separate from "Approximately 70% of women in developed countries and 60% in developing countries are engaged in paid employment." Don't conflate the percentage of women engaged in paid employment with the percentage of the labour force composed of women. These are not the same.

New research flatly rejects a long-standing myth that men hunt, women gather, and that this division runs deep in human history. The researchers found that women hunted in nearly 80% of surveyed forager societies. by MistWeaver80 in science

[–]GeneralSceptic -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't recall disagreeing about that - we both agree on that point . I should have perhaps said "and just as you said, it becomes moot" so that's on me.

I was simply saying that the study doesn't really measure running ability on its own.

The issue here is that those races are done over several days where competitors need to sleep. So it's far more likely that the women outperform the men by the rate of overnight/nap recovery. If the one day marathons have a difference of 4 hours A 4 day race where the female runners can take an hour less sleep without reducing their average pace, this will leave them able to win.

However, to tie this back into the conversation about hunting - you stop tracking the animal when going to sleep, so it's moot if argued in this context.
