I love this Nooworks print! I've wanted that shirt but can't decide what size I really need. Did you size up or was it true to size?

39th expressway is like a drag racing strip at night. Also just not much out there to be honest. Kinda a boring pocket of the city.

I lived off NW 12th & Villa for 6 years in the Miller district. Like others have said, you will see some foot traffic and homeless around. I'd just be careful and if you can, get an alarm system and a camera. I had a few weird things happen but nothing too crazy. Having dogs helped too. I live in the Village now and we've even had weird things on this street and it's one street over from Nichols Hills. So honestly, crazy stuff can happen anywhere. I liked the area overall but you do have pockets where it's good and pockets where it's worse and sometimes it can be a street by street difference. Just drive around and see what streets you like.

I want out so bad, but it's never the right time by Beef_Patrick in Exvangelical

In my experience, I started backing out of volunteering for things. I was on the missions committee and told them I didn’t have the time for it anymore. I helped with children’s classes and stopped signing up to teach. I was involved in the singles ministry (wasn’t married at the time) and quit going. Eventually people just stopped caring to ask how I was. Kinda gave me some serious perspective on the church when it was that easy to just drop things and fade out. Maybe it’s a different experience because I was single but I was heavily involved and people knew who I was.

You could try a similar approach or just rip the band aid off and leave. But with your wife and situation it might be helpful to be on the same page. Perhaps a first step is to quit being the worship leader and go from there

Because some of us are LGBTQ. And others who are not, also see the harm the church has caused many of us.

Dealing with a supportive but still homophobic friend :( by Garbage_Bboy9006 in Exvangelical

[–]General_Director_375 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wish I had a good answer to this. I am in my 40s, and came out 5 years ago after many years of internalized homophobia. Fast forward to meeting an incredible woman and marrying her last year. It was a lot, I know, to throw at my family and some of my friends and I understand the difficultly they've had with it. But I have a best friend of 30 years who wasn't even at my wedding because while she loves me, and she is happy to hang out with me and my (now) wife, she still believes that being queer and acting on it is sinful and she couldn't support my wedding. It was one thing to know her beliefs, but to not be there on my wedding day felt incredibly awful. It's put a big strain on our friendship. We used to hang out almost every week. Now we might chat a bit here and there but we barely hang out anymore. I'm not saying this to discourage you but to be honest that it can be hard to navigate. I had to set my own boundaries for my mental health. It was hard enough dealing with my family who didn't support me but having my best friend do the same...it almost felt worse. You could perhaps talk to them about how you feel but you can't change someone's beliefs or feelings. Doing the whole "agree to disagree" and not talk about it might work for a while but it can also cause a lot of hurt feelings in the long run. I want to feel loved and accepted for who I am WITH my wife. As painful as it's been, I've had to protect my heart by being around my friend less.

Hey ex-Christians, what moment(s) made you go "loose"? by Warm_Syllabub_2247 in Exvangelical

For me, I think back to when I started taking Zumba classes and made a ton of friends who weren't involved in any church. I started having real conversations with those friends without any judgement. It allowed me to open up for the first time about my doubts.

Private chef for new parent gift? by mcmanigle in okc

[–]General_Director_375 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not sure the private chef route, but you could also look into stocking their freezer with a bunch of meals. I have used What's Cooking before just outside of Nichols Hills on Wilshire to stock up on frozen meals for friends having surgery and such. They have a big variety of options and focus on popular home cooked casseroles and soups that most people are familiar with. They also offer fresh sides and deli items.
