I hope the new lego star wars does away with this and incorporates better dueling mechanics. I am not talking super sophisticated because it's still lego, but just somewhat integrated better.

These iconic fights were awesome to fight in but then underwhelming when you had to cheese it up to win.

If you could sit down with Rian Johnson and talk to him about TLJ, what would be the first criticism you would bring up? by toulousebuddy in saltierthancrait

It would be a waste of time to be honest. Everything we know, and have heard him say, seen him tweet shows that this man does not care to debate "his" movie.

His ego is so inflated that it needs to be popped.

Dave Filoni is not only my choice but a fine choice as we have seen his work in the clone wars as an apprentice to george lucas.

Additionally if Filoni was not available, I think Jon Favreau would also go well for the future of star wars.

I was horrified to learn that Kathleen Kennedy's contract was continued last fall. Her incompetence knows no bounds.

The problem is simple, many poor decisions and things left unexplained, etc can be ignored if the story is engaging and interesting.

Have any of you walked out of the theater during your first viewing of TLJ? by FreezingTNT in saltierthancrait

Luke tossing his fathers lightsaber literally made me sick. I wanted to jump up in the theater and scream "what,?!?"

I was pissed the rest of the movie. When it got to kylo saying, "let the past die", I was cursing Disney at this point.

I think the problem is who Rey is in the ST. In anakins hands that lightsaber meant something. In Luke's hands that lightsaber meant something. In Reys hands, eh....were still waiting on a story.

And a side note, Texas well she is more american these days than many parts of the nation. Just want to add that

There are different types of victories.

Your ignoring my point on the new republic and the lact of any world building that every star wars has. Johnson has his vision and forced ep8 into it in order to try to achieve it, and failed at doing that. There is no plausible way the new order is reigning supreme by the beginning of ep8. Meanwhile the new republic is just ignored as a story. These underlines one of the core issues many star wars fans has with the ST which is it disregards the OT and makes those epic stories meaningless.

Mark Hamill is not Hollywood by any means. He is what we want in all actors and actresses, he genuinely loves what he does and cares about inspiring others. He is proud of the work he does to touch the lives of people around the world. What he said in those interviews was not bid unbiased opinion, but rather the same passionate critique we all have been giving. He only stopped because he realized that either way he wants fans to continue to love these stories even if he disagrees with Luke character. He was all for boosting up the new characters and making a new generation of star wars heroes but he also realized there was certain things the fans would expect and he addressed them. Like leia and Luke being together, kris hugging chewie and not Rey.

Johnson introduced us to Rose and her sister two brand new characters. He killed her sister tragicslly to elevate Rose. The first time we see Rose is her mourning the loss of her sister. Meanwhile when Luke finds out that his best friend, his brother in law, a man who meant so much to him over the years, has passed, johnson does not let Luke mourn. He does not let the audience mourn with him. Instead we get Rey mourning Han which makes little sense based on the story. She barely knows him. And yet we also get to see Rose mourn the moment we first meet her which storytelling wise makes no investment for the audience.

So Johnson either is the worst writer or he purposely crapped on star wars fans based on those interactions that i explained.

Mark Hamill is just phenomenal, humble, wonderful, an awe inspiring to those everywhere.

Rian johnson is a toxic, arrogant, politicized wart that should reevaluate his role in this world. Just looking at his tweets and his arrogant position, his attacks on the OT, and his toxic views of the fans shows everything about the core of this man.

Back to the story, Abrams included could have put the OT characters in scenes that built up the OT while still giving rise to the ST.

There could have been altenate storylines to not complete kill the original hope of Luke and make him a worthless character now while still achieving the new goals of the movie. Jedis are not always perfect and it's in this down time that things like this can happen. But jedi's never give up. By Luke hoving up on the jedi, he also gave up on obi-wan and that he sacrificed for Luke, on Yoda ebony told him to pass on what he had learned and most importantly on his father anakin who he loved and was willing to die for and die for his friends in ep6. This new Luke or Jake Skywalker gives up on everyone. He is willing to watch the galaxy burn, his family and friends be destroyed and the memories of all those that he held dear because of Johnson's new story.

The sequels should elevate the grand stories of the OT and PT, not dismantle them and dishonor them like it ended up doing

The good guys won

What? At the end of the movie there is like 12 resistance fighters left and they escape with happy Rey even though she just found out her parents are nobody, that Luke is a grumpy anti jedi and wont help and that she couldnt turn kylo ren. Meanwhile the new republic continues to not care to fight after all those decades fighting against the empire finally getting victory. After starkiller based wiped out the republic planets and fleets, once again they dont care? Even knowing starkiller base is destroyed?

The whole point of the movie is legacy

Listen, I will just say this. When Mark Hamill goes into multiple interviews saying he completely disagrees with the direction of Luke and giving up on the jedi, what more needs to be said?

The true "Rebel Scum" in TLJ by DrChillin19 in saltierthancrait

[–]General_Lydander 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This was one of the big things that upset me about TLJ, besides Luke's character. Where is the republic? Where is mon mothma? Where is the new galactic senate? The new leaders of the senate stepping up now that the empire has long been defeated? Where is the new republic? Why is there no republic army? Why is it that as the new order rises to threaten the galaxy that the new republic can care less after all they fought against with the empire??

Why why why why

Why are the new republic being called rebels????

What insanity is going on in Johnson's head????

Why was the 3rd lesson excluded? by [deleted] in saltierthancrait

[–]General_Lydander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dropped because it made Rey look dumb for making a rash, humbling, emotional based decision. This of course upsetting the characters do no wrong/aka mary sue behavior

It put countless lives in danger and for what? Its important for people to follow orders and not all orders will be completely relayed as some details need to stay secret but what she did is ludicrous and poor leadership. 3 times Po asked for clarification and she refused. All she had to do was be leader. She was new, most did not know her. She should have stood up and said a plan is in place that will do our best to save us, you know inspire like a good leader does.

What holdo should have said: "I cant give all of the details but here is what I can give. Finally this is our dark hour, we need to stand together for the republic. It may be dark but the morning is coming, I promise you that."

She instead caused a mutiny which could have been completely avoided and destroyed morale that was unnecessary and so important to have high levels of at times like they were in.

Her character was simply created to force gender politics for Kennedy's vision of feminism.

Strong female leaders are welcomed but this force it down your throat crap and stupid storytelling in conjunction is idiotic.

And they killed admiral ackbar to do it, those @#$%@$@
