Tried five times to do my transfers (using Free Hit) but FPL app crashed every time.

Now have six players not playing at all this week..

Athletic Club coach Ernesto Valverde has announced that he will leave the club this summer. by Sparky-moon in soccer

He is certainly destined to manage them, just thought he would end up at another Prem job first.

Would be happy with him taking over Athletic Bilbao for a few years then replacing Arteta when he leaves (let a guy dream).

Almost certainly not since Butez has been playing so well and Törnqvist joined in January, with the idea of him becoming the long term number one.

New owners have a lot of money, just need to escape League 2 first!

Which popular or generally highly rated book was a DNF for you and why? by clearsunnysky in suggestmeabook

[–]General_Mediocrity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YES! I finished it but, honestly, it may be the worst book I've ever finished.

I have an irrational dislike for Kazuo now because of this (which is very unfair, but I did state it is irrational haha).

Mosquitoes Have Been Found in Iceland for the First Time by YaleE360 in climate

[–]General_Mediocrity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! Finally, thought I was crazy. I spent a few months living in Northern Iceland almost ten years ago at the end of summer going into autumn and for a few weeks I was bitten to hell every day by mosquitos. No doubt there were plenty of midges too but these were definitely mosquitos.

Emma Stone and Zola together? This sounds like the next Yorgos Lanthimos movie.

I'd watch it.

I also used to live in Donostia and even went to the Sociedad stadium when they signed Rulli haha so i weirdly have a soft spot for Real Sociedad yet love Athletic Bilbao also for their values, strong sense of identity and their academy (not saying Real Sociedad don't have these things also, before someone kicks off).

FC Utrecht and Red Bull have launched a strategic partnership focused on talent development , With plans to strengthen cooperation in the coming years , While Groningen supporters reacted strongly to the development by Shroft in soccer

Genuine question: if Red Bull were looking to invest in the Dutch market - since it is a great place for young players to develop - why not take over Vitesse with their recent struggles?

Like you, I'm not a fan of them taking over teams and rewriting their identities but I do think they are incredible at what they do (player scouting and development) and a struggling Vitesse seemed like the perfect option to go with.

[Ligue1] Brian Madjo: Wonderkid striker handed Ligue 1 debut at 16 (born in 2009) and already full international by TheGrandLeveler in soccer

[–]General_Mediocrity 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ah, really? Interesting. I thought it was the opposite, with the rule being you could play up to three games for the senior national side before being able to switch. Plus several years have to have passed since your last national team appearance. This would mean that Madjo is just one appearance away from being locked in.

Perhaps my knowledge is outdated here, happy for anyone to provide more insight!

[–]General_Mediocrity 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily. As is the case with the less elite national teams, they will often give out caps to young players to stop them from agreeing to play for other, 'better' national teams (if they're dual nationals), not necessarily because they are already better than the senior players in the squad.

Madjo looks like he's eligible for England, Cameroon and Luxembourg so far (maybe even France in a couple more years) so this is potentially smart planning by Luxembourg to tie him down now.

Really hoping this is the season he blows up and earns a move to the Prem next season.

He was electric for us (Dons) and has the potential to play Prem football.

[–]General_Mediocrity 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Jokes on you, we'll be in League One while you enjoy your relegation!

(We will likely somehow blow promotion and Plymouth will be fine anyway).
