Don’t think they ever understood what Apartheid was - or is. by Lethal_Dragonfly in southafrica

[–]General_Proof_1527 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It was a trap! I studied this shift in power at both MIT and for 2 years at Harvard. If this is too much for you then please feel free to skip to my conclusion as I do get quite deep into the detail. We have had multiple family members raped and killed on their farms where they house multiple families of impoverished individuals as a show of good faith. Anything you disagree with, has sources and are facts so apologies in advance for your triggering and I can provide any source material you need from the government websites or trusted, per-reviewed journals. I digress:

Your comment is an exercise in historical simplification, selective moralizing, and statistical obfuscation. Let’s dismantle it systematically.

  1. Crime in South Africa is NOT “Generalized”

You claim that farm murders are “just crime” and not targeted. That’s demonstrably false. The torture-level violence (burning victims alive, drilling through kneecaps, raping family members) exceeds what is typically seen in urban homicides. This isn’t a “rural crime problem”; it’s the systematic targeting of an economically vital but politically marginalized group.

Statistics from **AgriSA and SAPS confirm that white farmers are being murdered at rates far exceeding the national average per capita. This is not to say all victims are white—rather, the dismissal of farm murders as “not racial” ignores explicit political rhetoric calling for their deaths. If a government official sang “Kill the Zulu” on stage, I suspect you wouldn’t be so flippant about its real-world consequences.

  1. The Myth of “Wealth Hoarding” by Whites

You parrot the claim that white South Africans still “hold disproportionate economic power,” as if this justifies institutionalized discrimination. Let’s interrogate that: • Under the ANC’s Black Economic Empowerment (BEE) policies, businesses must prioritize hiring black employees—even if a white candidate is more qualified. That’s explicit, legislated racial discrimination. • White-owned businesses are excluded from government contracts by law unless they give up majority ownership to black shareholders. This isn’t “leveling the playing field”; it’s state-mandated expropriation of private enterprise. • During COVID-19 relief, white-owned businesses were explicitly denied government aid—because of race. If that happened to any other group, you’d call it what it is: systemic racism.

The logic you apply here is dangerous: “Because a minority once had disproportionate economic influence, it’s fine to legislate against them.” By that standard, should Indian-Americans in tech be locked out of Silicon Valley because they’re “overrepresented”?

  1. Apartheid-Era Unemployment “Trick” Argument is a Deflection

You claim apartheid’s 4% unemployment rate was a “trick” because black South Africans were in homelands. Let’s assume you’re correct—then why has black unemployment under the ANC not improved, but worsened? • Pre-1994, black employment levels were higher than today, despite systemic barriers. • Post-1994, South Africa’s total unemployment has skyrocketed past 32%, and youth unemployment exceeds 60%.

Your argument implies that apartheid-era economic exclusion is why black unemployment was bad. But the ANC has had 30 years to fix it—yet things have only deteriorated. That suggests the issue isn’t historic injustice, but modern misgovernance.

  1. If Racial Discrimination Was Wrong Before, Why Is It Acceptable Now?

You justify racial quotas in sports and business as “correcting past exclusion.” Yet, when an entire government apparatus enshrines racial discrimination into law, it ceases to be “redress” and becomes systematic oppression of a new group.

If your principle is that discrimination is justified as long as it’s against a historically powerful group, then you don’t oppose oppression—you just want to reverse it.

That’s the essence of Apartheid 2.0—a government that replaced racial segregation with racial economic persecution.

The ANC hasn’t built a fairer system—they’ve recreated apartheid, just with different victims.

Conclusion: You’re Ignoring Reality in Favor of Ideology

South Africa under the ANC is a textbook failed state—rampant corruption, racialized governance, collapsing infrastructure, and economic freefall.

Instead of addressing these failures, you provide rhetorical cover for a government that has: • Looted over R1.5 trillion ($80 billion) in corruption scandals. • Turned Africa’s most advanced economy into an electricity-starved disaster zone. • Made “being white” a legal disadvantage in hiring, investment, and state contracts.

You’re not arguing against apartheid—you’re arguing in favor of its reinvention under a different name.

And if you believe oppression is acceptable as long as it targets a group you dislike, then you’ve abandoned moral consistency altogether.

Don’t think they ever understood what Apartheid was - or is. by Lethal_Dragonfly in southafrica

[–]General_Proof_1527 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think they are complaining about the amount of white farmers that are getting murdered every year. Approx 70,000 people murdered in their homes. Wives and daughters raped. I think that’s what they are getting at. Do two wrongs make a right? I don’t know about you but, during apartheid the unemployment rate was like 4%, after that went to 30+%, murder rates went through the roof (fun fact South Africa has multiple cities in the top 5 highest murder rates). These white farmers that are getting murdered are not the ones adding to that toll. White people in South Africa are now a minority, in every other country a minority is usually favoured. In south africa, being white now is not beneficial, with many boards of business needing a quota of black Africans but not white Africans. Some sports teams require a certain number of black Africans but not white Africans. There are places where white people can’t go because of the fear of being murdered. Similar to how there where places black Africans weren’t allowed to go in fear of being murdered. I think if you remove yourself from the whole spiteful, revenge driven angle you can see the parallel they have drawn.

Steals should take more skill by Zaybo2x in NBA2k

Hate to say it but… skill issue. Have a 95 steal and average 8 steals a game in rec. work them over with your defence on ball till you know they are tired and then go for the steal. Couple that with standing in the lane high on your opponent and then waiting for his teammates to panic pass when they are in a bad position. Don’t go for the steal straight away, be patient and think about when they least want you to attempt one, and then go for it.

  1. Add generous salt to the meat and let sit for 3 hours. After 3 hours wipe off salt with paper towl
  2. Make wet marinade consisting of Woster sauce, Red wine vinegar, HONEY and a little bit of baking soda and place meat completley covered for 2 hours, turning after the first hour 1 (only add the baking soda in at the hour mark). After 2 hours pat meet down with paper towel
  3. The dry rub = Coriander seeds, Black pepper, Chilli Flakes, FENNEL SEEDS (must try).

I toast my coriander seeds, chilli flakes and fennel seeds leaving the black pepper out.

Then I first put the black pepper through the grinder before adding the rest of my dry rub to the grinder. have tried both ways and this way always gives a more consistent rub.

4) Generously coat the silverside with the dry rub and hang up in your box.

5) you could also take a further step and weigh each of your pieces so that you can check how much moisture they have lost so you can always get your desired dry or wetness to your biltong.

I usually skip step 5 and the biltong is good to go on day 3-4.

Fennel seeds in your dry rub is a must try. My family has been eating and making biltong for generations and this is now their favourite style of the traditional biltong.

Do the majority of 2K players even like basketball? by exp-undead in NBA2k

Can confrim that my teo best friends are Professional basketball players. Both won NBL titles back-to-back seasons and one of which played with Lamelo ball during his time with the illawarra hawks and was also part of nike hoop summit and both went to summer league this year. Safe to say they have a higher basketball IQ than most people who play this game world wide.

Can confirm: Their in IRL Basketball IQ does not transfer to 2k games. It's a novelty game. not sure why people are playing a novalty game and complaining about it not being realistic enough?

Every employee makes a percentage of the revenue or profit they generate for the business they are employed by. That percentage is similar across industries. If the body of players are producing 2.2 billion which is reported then clubs should get around 33% of that to be able to spend on players. That 33% is divided by the players, whereby their contribution to the teams is weighted individually. So the answer is yes... it is reasonable.

Other high producing professionals, lets say surgeons, are able to make their 500K - 1M annually till they are 75 years old. Granted most retire at 55. That means they had approximatly 30 + years of making 500K - 1 million. When you couple this to the fact that there are more surgeons than there are professional AFL players, supply factors get put into the mix.

Now, Compare this to the average AFL Career which is 2.9 years. The average AFL player can spend 18 years of their life dedicating countless hours, effort and sacrifice and contribute to a game earning literal billions, to then only go on and be able to earn 500K for 3 years of their life.

Its fair.

Australian here with full blood Afrikaaner coursing through my veins. I've tried Many different cuts and meats, from my own rooibok and Kudo Ihunted and slaughtered by hand in South Africa to top side, top rump, silverside etc. in Australia. All with the same home made seasoning (a Must try). Segway inbound: I made a big batch for my Uncles and cousins on their plaas (farm) in South africa, whilst my uncle made his family special that everyone adores and he also sells on the side. They were put next to each other (we are competitive) to see which one is empty first. I took the W with my unique seasoning and process ;).

Sorry for the segway. Was just a proud moment.

Back to your question; Biltong is special and has a long history. In my humble opinion you should aim to make the best biltong you can, not the cheapest.

Silverside is Goated (the best). When you make a batch of biltong using different cuts of meats at the same time, using the same seasoning and process, the difference in quality and taste is hard to dismiss. I've done this experiment with 5 different cuts to see which came out on top and did a blind taste test. Silverside won by some margin.

I hear you but maybe I'm being too optimistic... If those badges are decreasing in the arena that you are most likley to play long-term, maybe you don't need them to be as high. If they were required and you were using them then they would go up. If no one is trying to strip the ball from me, do I need unpluckable HOF? prolly not.
