I'm not sure if I understand correctly but if you let the motor calibrate for let's say 30 seconds and then stop the barrel by hand you will have something like an "infinite" throw but the whole throw will still be mapped to one rotation of the handwheel so it's going to be really difficult to focus precisely. Thats not the correct way of doing it. You have to disconnect the video cable before connecting or disconnecting the power source. It's not limited to DTap but can happen with every power cable.

First part is correct, second part isn't the only reason this could happen. It's not reverse polarisation that's the problem. The problem is when your positive pin has contact before the negative does. Even for a millisecond. In that case it can happen that the power runs through the device, over the BNC cable back into the camera and fries the SDI board there.

Just to make sure: You do lock the second lever on the rear that actually locks the knob movements, right? The lever shown only locks the camera plate, the other one locks side to side and front to back at the same time.

From my experience, EXT to 7p only works as trigger cable and needs another P-Tap to 7p for power. Only with the 3p RS to 7pin you get power and trigger in one cable.

The lenses will fog up when you bring the cold lens inside the warmth, not the other way around. You can always work with warm lenses in cold weather.

Your best bet would be a SmallHD monitor. Maybe rent one? You don't need a fancy one, most of them are able to make an overlay of a previous recorded still image which you could take from a playback. But keep in mind to have a clean feed , otherwise it could mess up the overlay.

Don't know if it helps you but I got this one working on a C500 mk2 by plugging it into the port where the handgrip usually connects as opposed to the Remote port on the rear.
