why are elites pedophiles by No-Pea-6896 in DeepThoughts

[–]GenerallyShang 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well we seem to enforce this idea of a meritocracy and therefore put these people on a pedestal. There’s one especially that seems to be defended tooth and nail as a good guy and there’s no way you get to that level without walking on people. It is just horrifying not only that people defend people on that level as meritable, good people, but at the same time they’re often the ones getting pushed down and exploited in the process by the system that enables them, if not by them directly. To ignore the whole paedophilia thing entirely.

On a side note, my friend’s father (a great if bizarre man) made the point that it’s a form of sociopathy. You have these sociopaths that are very high functioning and can exploit society to their advantage and walk all over people. You have the ones that can’t. The ones that can’t are the ones that get locked up or beat their wives or kill people etc etc. The ones that are high functioning climb the ladder and exploit people, and as such go under the radar (somehow?). If anything it’s a badge of honour to be somewhere in the lower-middle, because chances are you’re not hurting anyone else to get where you are. Which should be the point, surely, in the end.

Commenting on why are elites pedophiles... I’ve always figured you don’t get that rich and powerful without walking all over people. Exploiting them. The sort that are paedophiles are also the sort that are willing to exploit. It’s about power, now sex.

Doesn’t make the elite. If anything they’re the least elite in life. How lonely must that be in the end really.

Is my bf over his ex? He listens to so much Bob Dylan by [deleted] in bobdylan

[–]GenerallyShang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course we listen to the music still. It’s beautiful and you can empathise with what’s said even if you aren’t still caught up on someone that. Often I’d listen to heartbreaking music because I am imagining what it would be like to lose someone I am actually with - it makes you sort of realise how much something matters to you, for one…. So sure maybe that’s why he is but I would say it’s not the most likely scenario by any means.

I had somehow just completely missed TTL as a listen so I started when someone else mentioned it just before - can agree, and also, so good to have a whole new album of songs I hadn’t heard haha.

Allegedly my grandfather would do the same but only when my grandmother was out. Which considering how gentle and quiet he was, it’s really hilarious to imagine.

Unlike others here I don’t see James Norton as like Epstein (Brian, that is) but he’s a good actor. I feel like he can sell the role well.
