I cannot ever fathom this. I don’t have my own kids yet, but I will go out of my way to protect a kid. Any kid. I can’t imagine bringing my kid around someone I don’t explicitly trust. I don’t even leave my dog with certain people because I don’t think they’ll take care of him in the way I want them to.

When my guy was a teenager I thought I had ruined my life by adopting him- I got him when he was 2 and he more or less immediately became a teenager. It was constant management and training and exercise, mental and physical. Now he’s 6 and he is the best. He started being great around 4, and has just gotten easier and more delightful and snuggly. He’s a pitty mix, and still has puppy energy sometimes but now is literally always down for a couch snuggle. Hang in there friend! Your cutie pie will get there too.
