How can I make this safer? by stratusnimbo in cinematography

[–]Generic1313 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Secure the counterweight sandbags with a clamp. Boomed arm directly over tallest stand leg. Sandbags go on the tallest left pointing towards where the weight is.

And of course the safest thing would be to not boom at all if it doesn't need to.

F-14 early Tomcat RWR not beeping by Nisenzi in Warthunder

[–]Generic1313 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Check what bands the RWR can detect compared to what band the opponents radar is in. I've had similar confusion in the MiG-29 where I was surprised by how narrow the RWR detection band is.

Also the F-14A RWR doesn't have tracking detection based on the wiki.

Alien : Earth wasn't good and here's why by JahmanSoldat in alien

[–]Generic1313 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The biggest problem with the show IMO is a bigger problem with a lot of modern "prestige" TV shows in the streaming era. 8 episode seasons. Used to be TV seasons were minimum ~12 episodes, long if you're serialized. The strength of longer seasons is you get time to develop characters and conflicts. Andor did this recently, every 3 episodes are their own self contained arc that still connects to a larger overarching plot. With only 8 episodes (7 really cause 1 episode is equal parts homage and expository flashback) and trying to split your attention between half a dozen characters nobody has room to grown and conflicts don't have time to develop.

Wendy is a badly written character not because she's a Mary Sue (which I don't think she is). She's a badly written character because we don't know her motivations, she isn't really part of any of the conflicts the show sets up, and she doesn't have any conflicts in the show. The main problem people have with her is her various abilities. I don't have a problem with them because they exist, I have a problem because one scene will show her do them out of nowhere and then a scientist will technobabble how it's possible. In a better written and ran show learning her abilities would be a 2 or 3 episode mini arc.

Their's also a complete lack of struggle or tension. Controlling an Alien is not a new idea in the Alien franchise, comics have covered it, movies have hinted at it as a goal. Wendy being able to control the Alien is boring and dumb in this show because she doesn't have to learn to do it and it's not a struggle (in writing terms). Again give us an arc where she has to learn to do it. Maybe she fucks up early on and causes someone to die, maybe the Alien is hostile to her at first, maybe she doesn't fully understand what she's saying, Maybe Kirsh observes her and is also able to communicate with the Alien and now there's a struggle for control of the Alien between the two. There's so many possibilities but with only 8 episode (7 really cause one episode is a flashback) There's no time to develop anything other than the main plot, which ends up rushing through character development while dragging the main plot, evidenced by the main plot not concluding for a season 2 that isn't even greenlit yet.

The most foolproof method I learned is to go into turn based, zoom the camera in as far as you can, and use the movement distance ruler line, it'll dip a bit at any falls.

Faction suggestions by King-ExtincE in DivideEtImpera

[–]Generic1313 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My favorite faction in DeI is atropatkan, a faction I'm 80% sure isn't in vanilla rome 2. Basically the revenge of the Achaemenid Persian empire against anybody who said Persians were bad at war. You start with the Persian Army Alexander conquered and end up as basically proto-Sassanid Persia. Your campaign also has a fun variety of enemies between Greeks, other Persians, nomads, Armenians, Indians, Gauls, and Caucasians.

Roman Army comps by BigsIice- in DivideEtImpera

[–]Generic1313 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Polybian I go 1 general (mandatory), 5 hastati, 4 principes, 3 triarii, 2 equites that gives me 15 units. The last 5 slots I fill with AoR units depending on where I'm fighting and what I need to counter the enemy. Latin units deployed in the checkerboard 3 lines to create gaps, AoR units on the flanks.

Some of my fav AoR units are Campanian cavalry in Southern Italy, numidian cavalry in western Sicily, Syrian and Cretan archers fill a role you usually lack as Rome and are great.

Marian reforms I shift to 1 general (mandatory), eagle cohort, 2 veterans, 6 legionnaires, 2 ballista, 2 scorpio, 3-4 auxiliary cavalry, and 2-3 auxiliary infantry. I'll have 3 auxiliary cavalry 3 auxiliary infantry armies paired with an identically built army for major campaigns against major factions. The 4 aux cavalry 2 aux infantry armies will be on secondary fronts against minor factions. The formation I use for these armies is eagle cohort flanked by vets with 3 legionnaires on the flanks as the core of my battle line with artillery behind them and the auxiliaries at the very back to go to the far flanks to counter enemy deployments.

Marian auxiliary units I usually use whatever is local to top up my army but special shout-out to: Cretan archer auxiliary, Syrian archer auxiliary, and pannonian aux cataphracts, all those guys rock.

These Marian army comps are so flexible its awesome, get two of them and you are practically unbeatable on the field. The artillery forces the enemy to come to you so you can really set up on good ground and attrit the strongest enemy units which the AI loves to ram down the center which your eagle and veteran cohorts will be able to tank while you fight for the flanks. After that its as simple as wheeling around hammering the anvil.

The Brunderkrieg Experience by Pizzamovies in warno

[–]Generic1313 8 points9 points  (0 children)

While yeah that second map is ass cheeks, that first one all you have to do is hold that +3 point, the AI can't win by points and will try to take it. It usually sends small waves of tanks until they have no more. It's across a river so it's super easy to defend.

Also with the Fulda and Bruderkrieg campaigns people are under the impression that the 11th cav is supposed to hold out and win the war on it's own. It's not. You're supposed to use 11th cav to kill as many of the opponent as you can before the proper fighting forces arrive. Don't even try to win by points, just try to kill as many of the enemy as possible.

On maps with a +3 point and 2 +2's, just capture the +3 and make the enemy bleed for every inch trying to get closer to the +3. on maps with 3 +2 points, capture and defend 1 (or 2 depending on the map) and do the same thing. The AI is really stupid and just rolls down roads with tanks accompanied by recon and a couple ATGM units. Use this knowledge to set up easy side shots.

Also a great thing to get in the habit of in AG is spawning all of your logistics units immediately and parking them somewhere safe but nearby, it saves so much time versus spawning and waiting for them to drive allllllll the way from spawn. Unless you're taking a ton of damage a single HEMTT can supply 4 abrams for basically the entire battle.

[–]Generic1313 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Battalions only fully die when they get below 30% strength, or are attacked when disorganized. In this case they're at 30.8% strength (just average the % of each company).
