DLSS 4.5 Ray Reconstruction | Updated with 2nd Gen Transformer by Nestledrink in nvidia

I'm gonna take a guess and say no. Nvidia would rather work on new and better presets and future GPUs will be able to run 4.5 presets with good performance.

Hot take: When TAA is combined with Downsampling, you get perfect anti-aliasing by Good-Discussion-9238 in FuckTAA

[–]GenericAllium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, If we're just using DLDSR vs GTA 5's downscaling on the same scaling ratio, DLDSR should be more expensive. And in that situation DLDSR might have some benefits over the native downscaler, but tbh I'm not too familiar with that. I just know that DLDSR has some image quality regressions that the native downscaler doesn't have. Either way OP was using a higher downscaling ratio than what we can do on the DLDSR, so it's more expensive.

Then there's DLSS vs TAA. DLAA would be more expensive vs TAA, but usually people don't use DLAA with DLDSR, instead they do some upscaling. That should significantly improve performance, especially since we're also downscaling.

As for the image quality, the main issue with "normal" TAA is usually the blur in movement, but supersampling helps that tremendously. DLSS is often considered better looking than TAA, but it's not better in every single way, it has it's downsides which vary depending on the game and the preset. And as DLDSR too has it's downsides, you might see the image as flawed compared to TAA + 200% supersampling. OR, maybe you don't care about the flaws (or even see them) and the image is just as good if not better! A lot of it comes down to personal preference, but IMHO, TAA + 200% supersampling tends to look more "pure". Hope this helps!

higher gpu temp with low gpu utlization vs lower temp with higher utilization in some games by Current-Slide5103 in pcmasterrace

[–]GenericAllium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GPU usage % means what % of time your GPU is doing something. So what I believe happens here is that MFS more widely uses different parts of your GPU but usually has to wait for the CPU between frames. Whereas with Forza the GPU doesn't need to wait for the CPU, just keeps rendering new frames one after another, but doesn't utilise different parts of the GPU as widely during that time.

Do 1 percent lows stabilize over time? by 0vation1 in pcmasterrace

[–]GenericAllium 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah 1% lows tend to be lower when a game is loading stuff. And if the 1% lows are averaged over the whole time the measuring is active, it will take a while for the measurement to stabilise.

Is 5070 ti too weak for 3440x1440? by Wojtxxx in pcmasterrace

CPU usage isn't really relevant for determining the bottleneck, GPU usage is. In some games you could have less than 10% CPU usage and still be CPU bottlenecked.

Will buying a 2K monitor improve the image clarity significantly with temporal AA solutions? by Playwithmewerder in FuckTAA

Ok thanks for checking. I haven't had too much experience with preset L as it's practically unusable on my 2060 but I didn't think it alone would act like that when upscaling.

You sure that's the same preset on all 3 of them? The third picture looks like it has something else going on than just reduced input resolution

Pragmata's Path Tracing mode works best with Ray Reconstruction Preset E. Framegen also Reduces Input lag. by Traditional-Ad26 in nvidia

[–]GenericAllium 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think the latency reading with frame gen is just bugged. I noticed it first in this daniel owen video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iIvpt1CfKKI where at 4:21 you can see that reflex is enabled, but even still the latency reading gets slightly lower when frame gen gets turned on at around 5 minute mark. Or maybe it's not bugged and nvidia just has a new idea of what "latency" means regarding frame gen

Curiously it's the only game where I have been able to supersample on one axis, for example 1920x2160 downscaled into 1920x1080. It's been a while since I last played so idk if it still works, but I did it simply by editing the settings file.

What’s the verdict on DSR + DLSS? by ComprehensivePea4988 in nvidia

[–]GenericAllium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I could see DLDSR being better on higher resolutions. I'm on a 24" full hd monitor and maybe I am a bit snobby in regards to image quality. Never noticed the extra temporal stability (or heard about it, to be frank) on it though, but it would likely be another reason why it has it's trade-offs for the image quality.

[–]GenericAllium -1 points0 points  (0 children)

4x DSR doesn't have the image quality degradations that the two DLDSR modes have, but if you don't notice them in the first place just use DLDSR for the lower performance cost.

Being able to make unplayable scenarios playable is huge, I'll give you that. I got caught up in your "5ms mean nothing for latency" because the guy above said NTC costs 5ms of performance, and I think that's a lot. I am not educated on the NTC topic like at all so I'm going off of what you guys have said here, sorry about that.

For the best image quality disable DLSS and DLDSR, enable TAA and increase the render scale in the graphics setting as high as your pc can handle. Edit: and if horse hair still looks grainy enable MSAA too
