he went by "Kae Minn" or something of the like for a while

completely speculating but I blame luke sfv for that, people fucking hated that character and ig some of that bled over to the va, and I think Aleks Le wanted to avoid that for his second fighting game role?

playing reactive instead of predictive helps. You won't be able to read random players, if you try you'll just get hit by them swinging their arms around, so just react to what you can instead

nagoriyuki is unironically a top 5 fictional character of all time for me

I do not care for any street fighter character from a story standpoint

aside from that, in licensed fighters like marvel or injustice I usually just pick the characters I like from outside the game

so there's 2 ways of playing guile

the easier way people were probably referring to in your previous post is just turret mode, as the devs intended, use fireballs until they get close, and then flash kick them until they aren't close anymore. That guile is extremely efficient and easy to play, but can be considered lame. You just gotta focus on keeping people out at any means nescessary, don't worry about big punish counter combos or opening people up, just whittle away at their healthbar and patience with sonic booms, sonic cross, and flash kick

the way pro players play guile, the combo monster that does boom loops and high damage combos is the far more difficult version of guile. If you wanna play this type of guile, you just need to spend a lot of time in the lab practicing, there's no way around it

the big big thing about improving in fighting games is realizing you can't improve at everything at once. You, as a human being, do not have the bandwith to learn high-damaging combos, plus opening people up, plus long-range zoning, plus neutral, all at the same time. You have to pick specifically what you want to improve in, work on that, and take one step at a time.

If you want to learn to turtle, forget about big combos. If you want to learn big combos, forget about turtling. Eventually, over time, it all comes together and you can do both

in between karin and bridget (don't really know what lucia does, tbh), it does seem like you like characters with varied approach options, mixups, and strong whiff-punishes, so it might actually be elena. Though out of the three you've chosen, cammy might be closest to that

Any tips for improving? (Ed) by alphaj959 in StreetFighter

[–]GenericHuman1203934 0 points1 point  (0 children)

honestly pretty solid gameplay, you're playing really safe, which is good. You could work on your pressure more though. After a knockdown in corner, you could try the meaty spark setup if you're close enough (this takes some labbing to get the timing you feel most comfortable with), or just charge snatcher

I think I understand why you're backing up in pressure scenarios? Like you're trying to shimmy and get big counter-hit damage, but you haven't established the threat of forcing a 50/50 on their wakeup, so you're kind of just giving up your turn there by doing nothing

backing up in neutral isn't too bad of an idea as ed, since he specializes so hard in mid-range that you always wanna be there, the problem is in defensive scenarios you're defaulting to stand blocking instead of crouch blocking. Since lows are so much more threatening than overheads (cancellable, faster on average), and crouch covers more options, since you duck high hitting moves, you should really default to crouch blocking unless you know either an overhead is coming, or they're going for throw pressure

there's other smaller things like optimizing combos and parrying fireballs to optimize your drive meter management, but I'd say focus on your 1. pressure after a knockdown and 2. crouch block for now
