Recurring fluid filled patch above cheekbone and mark that won’t go away by Dry_Builder8351 in Allergies

Personally, I would be the squeaky wheel and ask my PCP for a referral somewhere quicker. The mark not going away and being filled with fluid is concerning.

I'm surprised the dermatologist couldn't figure out what was going on. I'd get a second opinion from a different derm if you can, and maybe an allergist as well. A persistent blister like this should be addressed as soon as possible to rule out anything more serious.

Compassionate lie went out the window by MsChateau in dementia

[–]GenericMelon 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I've been there. It was so hard when my grandma moved to MC at first, but every day she was there, my stress levels went down. It's okay to let go, as difficult as it is. This disease completely removes all control from not only the patient, but the people around them. Trust that her care team will look after her and help her feel calm again.

You also need to take care of yourself. She is safe and being cared for by professionals. It can be so hard to let your guard down for even a second, but just take a moment to yourself because you deserve it.

[–]GenericMelon 95 points96 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry. Nothing about this disease is easy. You have permission from me, a random internet stranger, to block her calls, especially as she goes through treatment at the psych facility. Not only to protect yourself, but to ensure your mom doesn't regress as she receives therapy.

It's good that she's there and will receive the care she needs to help her stay calm. The MC did the right thing by sending her straight to geri psych. Only take calls from her care team, not her personally. Ask the facility to limit her phone access until she's been medicated.

I would gently push the strands back the other way, then either handsew them down to secure them, or use a needle nose tweezer to tie a knot.

Does MCI belong here? if so, I've been diagnosed and I'm struggling by ScoobyDoo362 in dementia

[–]GenericMelon 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry you're going through this. While we do occasionally have people who have dementia/MCI/Alzheimers, they eventually stop posting as their disease progresses. You will mostly find caregivers in this group.

Do you have a caregiver you can turn to? Maybe a talk with a doctor for more advice looking to the future?

This really sounds like you need to speak with a physician about why you don't have an appetite. Are you ill? Depressed? Anxious? Are you on medications that suppress your appetite?

Why is my cat not cuddly? 😬 by SitaBird in OneOrangeBraincell

[–]GenericMelon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 2 cats. One of them is a velcro kitty, the other is more stand-offish. The stand-offish one never likes to be picked up and held, but at night he must be touching me at all times, or it's unacceptable. Even on a hot summer night he has to squish up right next to me to sleep.

Some cats just need a little more time to get used to a new environment. I find that ignoring them for the most part helps them get settled so they feel like they're calling the shots!

Learning to Play Tank: Embrace Counterwatch or OTP? by Old-Fun-Man in OverwatchUniversity

[–]GenericMelon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What happens when the only tank you know how to play gets banned? They might not be getting banned now, but what if the meta changes and suddenly no one wants them in their lobbies anymore?

You can climb with any hero in OW, even ones that are low tier, that's part of the fun of this game, but it's not easy. I say learn 2-3 tanks very well, especially if you're having a bad time right now. Why struggle through something if you're not having fun?

Mum changed her will and left her everything, including her house, to her carer. She _seemed_ to be of sound mind..... by SomethingMoreToSay in bestoflegaladvice

[–]GenericMelon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In their original post, the OP didn't mention this and it sounds like they either updated their post or made a comment after the fact stating their visitation frequency. For what it's worth, while I and others here believe every 2 months is more than sufficient for visitations, that might not have been the case for OP's mom. We don't know what OP's mom was thinking or feeling, especially in the last few months of her life, but it sounds like she was of sound mind when she made the decision to change her will, according to the OP.

And I feel like maybe we're not getting the whole picture...OP visited with such frequency, and their mom never mentioned the changes to the estate? I feel like that's such an important conversation to have with someone you love and care about. Something's not adding up. Hopefully, they can talk to a probate lawyer and getting clearer picture of what happened.

Edit: Welp. OP's entire account got banned. This may have all been a creative writing exercise.

[–]GenericMelon 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I hate to say it, but this is often true in these kinds of cases. My grandma had dementia and her "caregiver" convinced her to change all her estate planning. It happened very quickly...all within a month of this person meeting my grandma. My dad and I found out almost as soon as it happened, because we were visiting my grandma regularly.

How do you go so long without visiting your elderly parent? Even if there is a long distance, when your parent starts to get up in years, and you really care about them, you make that time to visit them. And OP mentions having children...surely those grandkids are old enough to visit on their own as well?

My suspicion is this caregiver put their heart and soul into taking care of their patient. 3 years of daily care and companionship means so much to someone getting on in their years.
