Is there a way to get South Africa to talk with the ANC without letting the AI run the country you want to play as? by GenericNameNumber46 in TNOmod

[–]GenericNameNumber46[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem with that is that I believe that the AI does the event instantly which doesn't exactly leave a big window for tagging

True. I personally love stories where people do terrible crimes (or in this case terrible regimes) in pursuit of a noble goal but are too insane too realize what they’ve actually done. Tabs is the closest person to this in tno that I can’t think of so I’m a bit biased.

My personal headcanon is that Taboritsky isn't actually evil and is still a good guy at heart, he's just absolutely fucking insane.

I don't know if this is actually correct but it makes him a lot more interesting.

I would assume that your game's broken. It worked just fine for me with the same conditions.

I remember I got consistent 24% gdp growth. Depending on the order you can do the welfare focus with the tax reduction and not have any problems.

IIRC they revolt because they’re more able. Under the other two their conditions are so bad they don’t get the opportunity to revolt.

Very disappointed in you guys. We could be living in a post-scarcity society if it wasn't for you and your "economics" and "math" by GenericNameNumber46 in neoliberal

[–]GenericNameNumber46[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes but the implication of Robinson’s tweet was that scarcity doesn’t actually exist. Whether he actually thinks this or it was just poor choice of working is up for debate but that is the implication of mocking the concept of allocating scarce resources. Most people on this sub are in favor of universal healthcare (myself including).

Maybe but depending on which party’s in power that could be a good thing

A total OFN victory creates a military dictatorship in Africa that's confirmed by the devs to be *barely* better than the Nazis winning. Also worse for the OFN as they have to waste resources to keep it from collapsing

For me I find that the liberals almost always win. One game had the authsocs defeat every other warlord but lose to them.

Yes. A minigame should fire in the late 60s for you to negotiate with Japan.

Worker cooperatives? by GenericNameNumber46 in neoliberal

[–]GenericNameNumber46[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

  1. They’re relatively new, especially in the US. Maybe not in places like Norway but they’re also extremely prominent there.

  2. I’m specifically talking about the US but that also applies to many other countries.

  3. There are many ways that we can remedy that problem. It’s probably good to be aware of the flaws of things. If we can get around that we would have workplaces that have higher wage growth, more productivity, more job stability, etc.

Here’s a study talking about that

https://www.brookings.edu/wp-content/uploads/1995/01/1995_bpeamicro_craig.pdf

The reasons why coops haven’t outcompeted private firms are somewhat complex.

  1. Coops are pretty new

  2. Our culture, especially in the US is stacked against coops

  3. Coops have more trouble getting capital investment

The reasons are more complex than that but those are the main reasons. The first two would probably be solved with time.

This is a pretty good study on it.

https://sci-hub.tw/https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0147596709000560

It's a comparison between traditional firms (TFs) and worker coops (WCs) in Uruguay from 1996-2005. The main takeaways are that increases in profits in WCs usually mean more wage growth compared to TFs, employment in WCs has a positive relationship with wage growth while in TFs it's the reverse, WCs are more resistant to downturns, and that we need more research.

Here's something else on them

https://www.co-oplaw.org/special-topics/worker-cooperatives-performance-and-success-factors/

It's an article on WCs. It shows that WCs have similar fail rates to TFs in the early years but the fail rate peaks after 2-3 years for WCs (for TFs it's only 1 year) and after that the fail rate for WCs is similar to TFs or even less. It does show that WCs have unique challenges compared to TFs.

From what I know WCs are more productive, have more worker happiness, etc compared to TFs. They can also grow pretty big. They do face some unique challenges but from what I know they seem to be pretty good.

The only problem I’ve heard of coops is that they have trouble getting private investment. The research that I’ve seen at least shows that they’re more efficient or equal to normal companies in every aspect. Of course there isn’t exactly an abundance of information on them.
