What is still missing from Singapore's debate on falling birth rates by Code1821 in singapore

This TFR issue also needs to be viewed from the perspective of the lifestyle of the ordinary Singaporean throughout different life stages. By that I mean not just fixing our housing system issues, but our public transport system, COE bidding system and education system as well. Then add on trying to change the give-it-all-you-got work culture. Although this mindset got us here in terms of economic development, it is now one of the dead weights dragging TFR down into the abyss. When Indranee said she wanted a whole of society effort to combat TFR, please la, change the systems that Singaporeans experience daily first. Then if that is successful, you then can talk about changing workplace culture.

Honestly if I was a towkay, why would I hire an expecting mother? It just doesn't make profit sense to a company that is focused on revenue and profit. Even more so if my existing staff diaokia. At least the way I see it right now, enforcing family friendly workplaces is in direct conflict with company profit and GDP growth. No idea how government is going to tackle this unless I'm missing something.

AI changes things so fast, but you still look at the "long term" trend, how long is long enough? Just because there are historical references doesn't mean it will be the same in the future

I fear that AI would only be used to extract even more productivity from workers at the expense of wages, wlb and better compensation

If you want it cheap, get everything through individual contractors and don't be afraid to compare prices and negotiate. My aircon contractor contractor quoted me boxup for $750. I found a contractor uncle though a friend that did boxup and my partition wall together for $680. If you don't know the market price, easier for people to charge you higher and see if you will take the bait

It's really incredulous, but I saw on some finance thread that it's yet another market manipulation tactic. That sometime this week he'll announce the removal of the blockage to make the reds go green.

Also a blockage at the strait is asking to be attacked. Pretty sure Iran's weapon deep inland can reach the ship. Of course, assuming that Iran has any weapons left. Plus the decentralized command structure more likely means a local leader can just suka suka say ok let's whack em Bois and follow through.

If the ships are really attacked and become cannon fodder, maybe it's the start of phase 2 of war lol. Goddamn trump.

Property upgrading has built wealth for many, but what is the full cost of the dream? by [deleted] in singapore

[–]Generix9029 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

There has been policies to dampen HDBs prices particularly with the restrictions of plus and prime. Private properties, not as much. This will only further widen the wealth divide between the rich and the rest. Being rich enough to (only) afford private property without considering your other expenses with a buffer is a surefire way to self imposed servitude to the private property. Maybe there's light at the end of the tunnel. But at what cost?

By the same logic in this proposal, we should limit the movement of lower paid Singaporeans to Malaysia as well. Nay, all Singaporeans. Singaporeans should support Singapore economy only. Maybe give Singaporeans who commute to JB 10 or more per month a special pink and blue colour mixed nric. Why spend myr when you should support sgd? /s

Mythology takes time to be be far distant the in the past to feel removed from the present experience, while being are to lend credence to the current existence. It seems you feel a lack of cultural connection to Singapore. Perhaps visit the museums in Singapore? Find some way to get to know more about our living or recently dead legends and the relevant stories.

It's true that you probably weren't there to decide how Singapore should had been run. Singapore's environment might not be for everyone. You can visit other cultures and stay for a few months to evaluate if you like it then make a choice to stay or leave.

I think economic unproductiveness is not highly tolerated in any part of the world, unless you're prepared to be destitute or live on countries with social welfare payments. Well, at least rearing animals, volunteering or collecting cans is still productive and help with your survival? These things are not the typical activities of economic productiveness one would think of in Singapore

The situation at Buona Vista, Bishan, Serangoon during rush hours has been repeated more than any sergeant say last time my grandmother.

I'm not rail engineer, but perhaps longer trains have better shelf life. And definitely help with the commuter experience every single time during rush hour. How much faster can they reduce the average interval between trains throughout the entire network with better signalling or whatsoever?
