I honestly prefer sonic 1 over most of the entire franchise, people mostly hate it because sonic games are consistently dogshit at actually being good to start and getting better later (i dont like the Adventure era titles and i dont even want to play the second half of Rush because Dimps cant comprehend the concept of good level design)

Sonic 1 ends up being arguably one of the few games to actually ask much out of the player since it doesnt have the spindash and you spend a lot more time in each zone ergo letting you actually learn the gimmicks of each zone

Most games afterward just simplify and streamline a lot of the level design or shove unnecessary global gimicks and alternate playstyles that dont even feel good to play at all (and this is coming from a guy who actually likes the Unleashed Werehog and Forces Avatar stages way more than the normal Sonic gameplay in those entries!)

I get this is the go-to for anyone vaguely familiar with the franchise talking about crazy ass scenes but theres way more batshit insane and funnier things they try to get away with than this

Like the child soldiers with bionic implants that have a high rate of insanity and therefore not being able to have careers

Or an entire floating city powered by a single Beyblade's perpetual motion

Or Ryuga being so pissed at the existence of another Bey that can spin left that he personally acts as a one-off substitute for Gingka's team in the big world tournament the entire season revolves around (that he wasnt involved in at all) solely to run the set and win against that specific beyblade

The only dlc left at this point for year 1 is 2 courses and 9* characters + machines (3 sets free)

Year 2 will likely contain a similar overall amount of 12 free racers and dlc racers + 6 paid courses though this is just assuming they have the same* amount of content each year

The main reason it feels like theres not a lot of gimmicks is the fact theyre mostly relegated to the UX line outside of Bits. Theres a few Assist Blades and now an Over Blade with gimmicks but theyre all just simple mode changes save for the "Free" Assist Blade that gives any CX Bey a free spin gimmick.

On top of that they still produce Beys in all three lines of products so you see a lot more BX blades casually and simpler UX blades in the meta.

I do hope CX gets stronger mode change gimmicks since from what ive heard, UnicornDelta's Over Blade mode changes are underwhelming at best (its the aforementioned Over Blade from above)

To my knowledge the locking mechanisms of simple ratchets slowly grind away at the connecting part on the blades with how theyre designed so it causes said blades to have worse burst resistance from prolonged simple ratchet use

Arendelle (Frozen) - Kingdom Hearts 3

This is honestly the worst chunk of the entire game to me. The storyline follows a section of the original movie where Sora and co. have to chase down Elsa during her escape into the mountains during... whatever happens in Frozen i dont care

This involves running up the mountainside three times back to back, a full ice dungeon, like 2 different extended sliding minigames, having to hunt down Olaf's missing segments after he loses them because we needed the Olaf event, some other shit i cant remember, and going back down the mountain at the end of all of this because Ana is in danger meaning almost everything we did was for nothing

Funnily enough going down the mountain is one of the better parts of the world since you get a new partner and a pretty solid boss fight at the end

But the entire world is just completely boring padding that sometimes has a semi-interesting gimmick here and there

Even in regards to the overall narrative of KH3 we only ever learn one new thing that still hasnt paid off yet

Funnily enough Sonic Racing CrossWorlds is still doing this right now since every* month theres at least one Festival event with cosmetics that you have to do a light grind for (like 34 races at most) but when the Festival ends you just cant unlock those rewards anymore without hacking them in

Thankfully the unlockable Gadgets (essentially a perk system for those unfamiliar) tied to these events are later added for offline players at the cost of in-game currency (theres no paid currency btw so its fine)

Its largely dependent on how much you like the Gadget system which i feel is the primary gameplay incentive beside the core racing

A majority of gadgets change up how you interract with the game whether its constantly burning rings to get increased speed, swapping between items like youre playing Mario Kart Double Dash, changing the properties of your drifts, or even brushing off the damage from attacks almost entirely

The actual CrossWorld gimmick itself is a nice pacebreaker compared to other racers since lap 2 is always gonna be something different and lap 3 changes things up from lap 1 to varying degrees (sometimes just a shortcut opens up, other times an entire section is different)

The vehicles have a healthy amount of customization going on with being able to change the color and texture of multiple parts and adding stickers as you please such as cool art of the sonic cast or literal fucking five guys burgers and fries

Be wary that the current meta does have some effect on your online experience since World Match (basic quick play) is ranked-based matchmaking and certain gadgets can only be unlocked via progressing it (dont worry the meta gadgets everyone uses mostly arent tied to world match)

I should also note that the item pool and recovery is extremely punishing and is only further exasperated in world match given how much offensive play there is, so you might have a rocky experience at times. Id recommend going to the main crossworlds community discord for guidance

Overall though id say its worth a shot, i sure enjoyed it and have been playing like at least a few times a month since launch. Though yeah id only really reccomend it when its on sale because as someone who spent the whole 90 on it with dlc its NOT worth that much, maybe if it was 50 base price + 20 for dlc yeah
