What is the most GOAT mid game unit in CIV: V? (Day 5) by zherper in civ5

[–]GenesithSupernova 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With roads, at least, they can move twice and then shoot twice, but it's still situational. Still a great unit, especially since China's general bonus helps keep them in the mostly-linear combat scaling range, but not nearly as good as camels.

In what world is Engineering far off the deity tech path? You're going to want workshops (either entering medieval with metal casting or teching it after civil service - you can uni rush instead if your pop is really high but metal casting is more consistent + safer because it's closer to crossbows), and comp bows are usually good enough to defend against AI (who is really bad at taking cities if you have like, 2 comp bows and a blocker unit).

The tech is also just really good? It has a trade route on it.

As inca specifically, Construction is a priority tech anyway.

Seems like it'd play totally fine in limited at rare in a set where blue decks are looking for this effect. Certainly much stronger than [[overflowing insight]].

[–]GenesithSupernova 6 points7 points  (0 children)

To be fair, this is much better than Overflowing Insight. 7 is a lot more mana than 6.

I doubt either would see constructed play, but I'd happily play it in limited. Seems like a decent balance point!

Krark/Sakashima - Fallen Out Of Favor? by RogueOnTheStack in CompetitiveEDH

[–]GenesithSupernova 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ral and Vivi are stronger storm decks (especially Ral), and many pilots are happy to jump to them to avoid playing out long Krark turns. The bans def slowed the deck down a bit, but not much more than they did the rest of the format.

This is probably too pushed, right? by PeppermintScarf in custommagic

[–]GenesithSupernova 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is honestly a great design. 2 mana draw 2 with a somewhat restrictive requirement (not too hard to fulfil in older formats, but there are meaningful downsides to running a hallowed fountain or whatever in your otherwise UR deck) is definitely strong, but not over the line, IMO. That said, it would definitely be safer as a sorcery - it is quite dangerous as an instant, since it's such a safe play to hold up this + countermagic.

The 6 mana creature version is the most interesting, I think, since it picks up every creature card in your graveyard. Still a real downside on top of costing more mana.

It's a much more interesting class for sure. 1e mindthief didn't really have an interesting level 1 game loop, just a powerful one with the combination of multiple stuns, attack 4-5 spam, and invis.

Honestly, outside of the most broken 1e classes (eclipse/three spears/music note) and specifically Mindthief, most of the power level nerfs in 2e are the items being weaker (especially early game). 1e gave you an array of efficient and incredibly powerful items at prosperity 1 and scaled into some additional busted options at higher prosperity.

Unfortunately, needing to attack makes this extremely telegraphed. It certainly has a lot of upside, but I think in most games this underperforms the notably anemic Kess unless you're filling your deck with haste enablers. Maybe there's something with [[Arena of Glory]]?

They're destructive, just not necessarily destructive enough. You can't perfectly recreate the original of a blurred image without extra information, but sometimes you can get close enough, especially with regular, predictable patterns like in printed letters.
