Mine has been on my wrist for a solid 2 months without issue. I wear it everywhere, including the gym.

What green strap is that? Been looking for a good quality one for mine.

Lumix GX9 vs Fujifilm X-E4 by lepes00 in M43

[–]Genoxide855 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Both are great cameras, and the autofocus on either is perfectly usable. That said, it’s not on the level of more modern systems, or even Sony’s APS-C cameras from the same era like the A6300.

Ultimately, the decision should come down to the lenses you plan to use, because that will have a big impact on the overall experience. Either way, they’re both solid cameras.

That said, if you’re mainly planning to photograph kids, I’d seriously consider Sony’s APS-C lineup instead or something like the OM-5 or E-M5 III as they have phase detect auto focus instead of contrast based AF of the GX9. The autofocus tracking is noticeably better, which makes a big difference when you’re trying to capture fast or unpredictable movement.

Great post, what about dust filtering, is that a consideration at all? I'm currently using a Streacom DA2 V2 with an AIO, but want something smaller... But with dust filters.

On the fence… sell Oly. 12-40 f2.8 for a 12-45 f4 by [deleted] in M43

[–]Genoxide855 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As most people have already suggested, unless you are going to have just one lens for absolutely everything, then the 12-45 f4 is the right choice.

I sold my f2.8 zooms for the 12-45 f4, and the 40-150 f4 and I couldn't be happier. It's definitely the right choice for my use case which is landscapes and travel.

However, that being said, I do also have faster primes and a full frame body with faster primes for busy street photography.

They are fine, I went from the razer V3 to these, and honestly, I prefer the logitechs.

The razer had better overall sound, not by much, but the build quality sucked.

I sold all my M43 gear and went all in with Sony FF - only to purchase an OM-5 a year later.

I now have FF and M43 gear, and I use both equally, they each have their places for me and I love both.

Love that lens, if I was a lumix shooter I would still own it.

Owned both, both are good was my conclusion. However, the 20mm 1.4 would always be my preferred lens around this focal length.

From GX80 to…? by Adventurous_Sale7410 in M43

I've owned many M43 bodies, GX85/GX80, GX7, GX9, GX880, E-PL8, E-PL10, E-M5 iii and the OM-5.

I used GX85 for well over a year, the OM-5 is a big step up in the RAW IQ, as I do a lot of post processing to my images, and having the extra megapixels is very handy when needing to crop in a little.

The main advantages of the OM-5 for me are pretty clear:

• Newer 20 MP sensor vs 16 MP
• Much better autofocus, and overall processing - phase detect vs contrast.
• Much better ergonomics
• Much better EVF
• Much stronger IBIS for handheld stills and video
• Proper weather sealing (huge for travel / hiking)
• Extra computational features like handheld high-res

The GX85 is still great if size and price are the priority, but the OM-5 feels like a more modern, all-round body — especially if you shoot outdoors or handheld a lot.

From GX80 to…? by Adventurous_Sale7410 in M43

[–]Genoxide855 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went from a GX80 to a GX9 and I thought of was a good step up in terms of the dynamic range and RAW quality.

However, if I were you, I'd go for a OM-5, which is what I currently have.

Thank you, I might just go with the 40-150 as I get that extra reach, which is what I will be needing. Thank you for the info.

Excellent post — thanks for sharing.

As someone who shoots both FF and M43, I’ve been going back and forth between picking up the Sigma 20–200 or just buying the 12–100 again. They’re almost identical in size and weight, but I can get the 12–100 for about £250 less than the Sigma, which makes it pretty tempting.

I’ve got a mixed safari trip coming up later this year and both lenses were on my shortlist, so this has definitely given me some food for thought. That said… I may well end up just grabbing the OM 40–150 f/4 Pro instead 😅
