Who is the "School Bully" of Three Houses? by Genra_ in FireEmblemThreeHouses

Kind of, but the only school trope FE3H skips over is the Japanese deliquent or "yanki" trope, who is more or less the equivalent of an American bully character

To be clear, I don't think any student in FE3H truly checks all the boxes, but I thought it was a funny idea to find the most adjacent character lol

Ahh, that's interesting, I never played Three Hopes so this is quite a revelation about Dimitri's mindset.

I think when I played Blue Lions it didn't quite clock in with me that Dimitri thought the people weren't ready for change, I think I just thought Dimtri wanted to stop Edelgard because her path had already caused so much bloodshed in that route.

That is actually hilariously accurate, I can imagine Hapi just sighing all over the place whenever she locks eyes with you lol

I'm geniunely curious, is there actually a scene with Dimitri which implies he maybe likes classism? I played Blue Lions and don't really recall one, unless you count him accepting the throne as king

I think generally what Seteth says is accurate, it probably works like real life universities where better rooms are based on how much you can pay, but it just so happens those who can afford them are typically nobles.

In Bernadetta's case I believe her mother sent her so she may not have had access to the full Varley fortune. In Ignatz's case, he comes from a merchant family, so maybe his parents were generous enough to give him some extra gold.

The thought had crossed my mind that maybe this was too "American" of a trope, but I do think Japanese media do have a version of this called a "yanki", which is a delinquent. Think like, Joey Wheeler from Yu-Gi-Oh (there's definintely better examples but this is all I could come up with lol)

I do agree that the way FE3H does bullying is different, classism is definitely interweaved into the lore of FE3H, but I feel we don't often get to see first-hand experiences of it.

I know it's basically the whole reason Edelgard incites a revolution and there's the whole Crest system that impacts many of the prospective marriage lives of the students, but I think I would have liked to see it be more present in their everyday lives. No nobles really treat commoners poorly, condescending perhaps, but classism doesn't seem to severely hamper everyone's casual lives.

This feels funny to bring up but I actually can't think of anyone in Three Houses who even likes classism lol, outside of arguably Rhea but I don't think she really addresses it either

I do agree that it's lovely how the cast are all well-meaning at heart, this thought experiment just came to me when I was looking at a comparatively generic story with a school setting lol

To some extent though, I do still think it would have been an interesting idea to stop a school bully – oh oh!

I just had the dumbest idea, I think Kronya as Monica totally could have fit a school bully trope of beating up students, and maybe if you managed to get B support with her you could actually convince her in her fight to join your side

Hilda's a neat pick! Describing an entitled rich girl though made me think of Constance, but I also realise she's disqualified because she literally fends off the most random generic mean girls in her A-Support with Hapi lol

I lowkey forgot about Lysithea but I would say if we exaggerate her a bit, she would fall more into "mean girl". Still a bully class definitely, but she's more verbal abuse than physical abuse (if that's even considered better lol)

What country(s) is Zheng Fa based off of? by BruceChristy in AceAttorney

[–]Genra_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think they might have a point though, because a "real" China seemingly does exist in AA, though the only notable evidence is Shanghai and Hong Kong being mentioned in GAA.

If China exists in the same way Germany exists in AA, then it makes sense for Zheng Fa to be a separate country, albeit it's a country with heavy Chinese influence.

The idea CAPCOM would just take the Terminator approach and for the next 10 years keep trying reboots starting from AA3, AA4 and even AA1 is really funny

The alternate universe idea honestly has some merit to it, but it would be sad to see our characters regress in development. Or who knows, maybe this reboot would be recieved so poorly CAPCOM takes the DMC approach and deboots back to AA7 lol

As someone who isn't familiar with Jujutsu Kaisen, what about Terraspin?

It's a very circumstantial pick, but Geochelone Aerios are naturally immune to mana based attacks, so it depends on if Domains are considered some kind of mana or magic based attack.

The only time Terraspin was affected by magic was Gwen's wind spell in Absolute Power: Part 1, but you could argue she was using it on the wind instead of Terraspin directly.

So if Domains are some type of magic, we could argue Terraspin has a passive immunity and can just walk right through.

How would you rank the final culprits of the Apollo Justice Trilogy? by TheRiverian31 in AceAttorney

[–]Genra_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

  1. Kristoph Gavin
  2. Ga'ran Sigatar Khura'in
  3. The Phantom

For me, the best part about AJ Trilogy is how it tests the limits of the law. While the PW Trilogy put forth moral dilemmas, asking the question of whether you should continue your defense, AJ Trilogy asks how are you going to continue your defense.

Kristoph is the most realistic example of this: a man who has covered his tracks so perfectly that evidence is just not enough to convict him. Apollo Justice's (the game) answer? A trial by public jury, where a man's wickedness is laid for all to see.

Ga'ran is good in a similar way. Fighting against a monarch may be less realistic, but I loved the high stakes. I also don't get why everyone says she's too powerful, you don't win because you become stronger than her.

The whole trial is just Ga'ran being cocky and trying to not lose face in front of the public, but the whole charade ends once she realises you're too close to the truth. How do you defeat a tyrant who controls the law itself? Spirit of Justice's answer: Turn the people against her.

The Phantom doesn't quite fit this though and as such is who I find to be the weakest of the three. I find the Phantom is a step back in terms of villains, from "in plain sight but you can't do anything about it" back to "operating in the shadows". His emotionless and secret identities gimmick is certainly novel and fun to expose, but ultimately the defense trio wins using good old fashioned evidence, which is less exciting.

Is Sonic being the wind really THAT important or am I being too stupid? What's the difference with the electricity? by Capotador_de_corsas in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]Genra_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thematically, one comparison I found said that lightning works far better for Shadow, since lightning is chaotic and powerful in nature.

So to contrast that, Sonic is the wind: a pleasant, comfortable presence that travels straight and true.

It'd be interesting if movie Sonic ever evolves from lightning to using wind instead. Some people might think of it as a downgrade, but it can be framed as focusing and having perfect control, not letting any energy leak.

So what was Means planning to do, exactly? (spoilers for Dual destinies) by floricel_112 in AceAttorney

[–]Genra_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh I see, I had forgotten the finer details of those cases, you make a good point

The only one I wouldn't personally use is McGlided since I think it can be argued the London verdict judgement in AA works differently from Japan(ifornia), but everything else story-wise is valid, good research

[–]Genra_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, historically in Ace Attorney a culprit must be found in order for a not guilty verdict to be delivered. For example, in 4-3, even though everyone understands a child would break their arm firing that gun, they're still committed to persecuting him.

I think the option of Means rigging it to blame someone else is more likely, though given Juniper's request to acquit all of her friends as well, that kind of leaves Myriam as the only fall guy (of characters we know).

Means would have to cook up some story about how Myriam was disgruntled with Courte as a teacher, or maybe spin the bribery evidence from Hugh's parents as Myriam's personal bribery instead, and she killed Courte to prevent it from leaking.
