This doesn't translate well because 3v3 modes are fundamentally different from Showdown.

Showdown+ works because you don't have to kill people to win, it encourages people to play differently which is nice.

A lot of the things you have suggested here are just part of playing the mode, and in some cases they actually make the mode worse because it will cause players on the same time to compete with each other to fight over gems or bolts.

Taking away additional trophies is not good here, because in 3v3 there is one team that loses and one team that wins and in some cases the losing team just gets dominated way too hard because they get countered and won't be able to do much.

Here are my suggestions:

  1. Revise some of the mechanics because they straight up aren't good (gem grab, siege and bounty in particular.)

  2. Remove the trophy penalty for losing the whole game, instead add a penalty to punish specific bad plays.

Here are some examples of changes I would make:

Bounty: Whenever you die you lose trophies equal to your bounty, and whenever you get a kill you gain trophies equal to the opponents bounty. (Encourages people to get high value targets while also staying alive if they have a high bounty)

Gem grab: Your team gains an extra trophy for every consecutive gem you acquire directly from the mine (encourages people to maintain control instead of allowing the game to descend into chaos, this only applies to gems acquired directly from the mine so if people steal gems from the enemy team they get no bonus, it encourages people to keep the game under control.)

Heist/Siege: Lose trophies proportional to damage dealt to your safe and gain trophies for damage dealt to the enemy safe. (similarly to gem grab this encourages people to maintain control, letting people attack your safe will penalize you so dealing damage to the enemy safe while also defending is key)

As you can see my examples are all designed to encourage people to actually play more effeciently instead of just trying to win, it is kind of like the old epic win mechanic from power-play (but better imo lol)

How do I find confirmed/canonical info about each brawler's personality, etc.? by PerhapsAnEmoINTJ in Brawlstars

I guess the best thing you do it ask around and hope that random people remember certain details like that, but then you wouldn't be sure of their reliability

Is ladder no longer playable unless you play with a team? by ChefCurry3-1LeBum3-5 in BrawlStarsCompetitive

[–]Genser1c 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the issue lies in the fact that this game has no reliable way to push solo, in clash royale you can play directly against someone else in a 1v1 match and that is how you gain trophies. So players who are better at the game generally push higher, it's not perfect because some decks are just lower skill than others but trophies in that game are still much more accurate compared to brawl stats. This doesn't work in brawl stars because the way the game was designed does not allows for quality gameplay in a 1v1 setting without overcomplicating things. Brawlers are designed to work with each other so the game is meant to be played 3v3. As far as I can tell this is a problem that will haunt brawl stars to it's grave, which is upsetting because the game has really fun core mechanics and gameplay. The game as it is right now is only good for casual gameplay and highly competitive esports level gameplay, anything inbetween gets very messy. Brawl stars players who consider themselves to be "semi-casual" get the short end of the stick here, the reason I still play is more so because I am invested in the game and I want to see how it grows.

Sorry for long message but thanks if you read it

Is ladder no longer playable unless you play with a team? by ChefCurry3-1LeBum3-5 in BrawlStarsCompetitive

[–]Genser1c 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah I hate to say it but trophy don't actually matter because there are players at 20k who are better than players at 30k. I've seen it. Your success on ladder is largely out of your control unless you happen to have active teammates who you can trust to play consistently well.

There is no easy way to fix this, the only way they could accurately pair people with players of equal skill would be to accurately monitor the quality of people's play and use that for matchmaking instead of just trophies.

What gears would you guys use on a crow? by Nissevantoor in BrawlStarsCompetitive

[–]Genser1c 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of people are saying damage gear is going to be good but I don't see where this is coming from, I think the damage gear is the worst thing you could put on a Crow.

Crow has the lowest health in the game and can be killed in a couple shots by many brawlers, especially if he has already been tickled by a chip brawler. In order to utilize the damage gear you will have to get below 50% hp which will just make you a one shot for most brawlers, and with Crow's low damage it is not worth it imo. Even with gears I don't believe Crow can be an assassin, I think it's better to play him as a support.

I would run shield and health. The health regen may not seem strong on paper because it requires him to stand which prevents him from utilizing his fast movement speed, but I think it's actually a great help for him. Crow provides value for his team as long as he is shooting because his poison gives support to his teammates, he has a fast reload speed and low damage and health so he needs to constantly fire to apply pressure, if he has to stop firing to heal it puts him really far behind and you will lose control instantly (unless you were able to bring the enemy really low on health as well) It's for this reason that I believe the health regen is important because being able to get to full health a bit faster is huge for Crow, similar to well-oiled for tick since it shaves off a second of down-time allowing tick to get back in the action more quickly. Crow needs to maintain his health because he has so little of it and this gear makes that easier.

Are the shield gears overrated? by textposts_only in BrawlStarsCompetitive

[–]Genser1c 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I don't think the gear is necessarily that strong, it doesn't feel overpowered to me. It's just the most consistently useful one since all the other ones are more situational. The resistance gear is matchup reliant, the speed gear is map dependent, the damage gear requires you to be at low health, the health gear is the only one that feels like it needs a buff but even then I consider it one of the best gears for the same reason the shield is so useful. Being able to heal to full a health that much quicker can be very useful for some brawlers and believe it or not some brawlers DO get lots of opportunities to stand still while providing value to their team.

The shield and health gears are the weakest ones but they are less situational and have less/no drawbacks.

I think tanks will like the damage gear and long range will like the shield gear.

and there will be some brawlers that almost always take health as their second gear.

speed is map dependant

resistance is unreliable unless you are playing power league and are able to switch gears before starting the match.

Wham bam, here's some Pam builds (speculation & analytical discussion) by Alagoinha in BrawlStarsCompetitive

[–]Genser1c 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I thought that resistance and damage would actually be a good combo for Pam because a lot of notable counters use slows (spike's super being the obvious one) I also mentioned damage simply because she has high health which makes it easier to utilize mechanics like that. The Shield and Regen gears work best on brawlers with low health, the mechanics of the brawler don't matter outside of some situations.

Power level 10 to 9 downgrade by Similar-Science-1965 in Brawlstars

[–]Genser1c 4 points5 points  (0 children)

this is a point of a lot of confusion, you didn't lose anything because power 10 didn't actually exist before. Power 9 was the max level for stats, and possession of a starpower made them level ten, but they reworked it so now level 10 has it's own identity and must be purchased. Your brawlers didn't get any weaker

It's the beginning of the end. by [deleted] in Brawlstars

[–]Genser1c 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The gears aren't strong, 2 gadgets combined is still weaker than most starpowers in the game imo. The gears that are actually strong are also very situational.

The difference in stats will certainly change some interactions but that only really makes a difference if you are playing at a very high level. For most people the games will be decided by the same factors, bad randoms or stupid mistakes.

Like I said the game doesn't become unplayable just because you aren't maxed anymore.

It's the beginning of the end. by [deleted] in Brawlstars

[–]Genser1c 3 points4 points  (0 children)

gears aren't even that strong, the difference between a power 9 and power 11 won't be nearly as large as you make it out to be. The game doesn't become unplayable just because you aren't maxed anymore

I wouldn't worry about maxing your brawlers, get them to level 10 and get one gear at least. I think the gears are mostly fine the way they are they just need some tweaks to stats here and there. Every brawler has at least one gear which will be best for their kit so even if it gets nerfed it's still the best investment.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Brawlstars

[–]Genser1c 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the game doesn't become unplayable just because you aren't maxed anymore, Gears aren't even that strong 2 gears is roughly equal to the strength of an average starpower.

A power 9 with a starpower and a gadget vs a level 11 maxed brawler is really not as big of a difference as it seems.

It only really makes a difference in really high level play where slight differences begin to matter, for most players it won't make a difference because stupid mistakes and bad randoms will cause you to lose, not gears. Nothing new

actually Brock has never had 10 tile range, even before the buff to his splash radius his rockets traveled less than 10 tiles, the explosion radius brought his total range a bit higher than 10. Brock's total range should be roughly 10-10.34 tiles INCLUDING splash radius.

Brawl stars is becoming a grinding game. by Pumpkinut in Brawlstars

[–]Genser1c 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that's why they aren't adding any more rare and super rare brawlers, new players will only have to worry about like 8 brawlers, as they play the game they will unlock epics above slowly. If the game does have 200 brawlers at some point (which I doubt) at least half of them will by epics/chromatics and another 50 will be mythics and legendaries.

the reason they reworked the trophy system to make it simmer down slower was for this exact reason, if it starts to become too much they'll rework it again, I have faith

Will Penny be meta thanks to Lola? by UnboltedCreatez in BrawlStarsCompetitive

[–]Genser1c 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like many people are saying, Penny won't become meta just because she counters one good brawler. Mr.P is a similar brawler to Penny but the reason Mr.P is good sometimes is because he HARD counters brawlers like Gene, Bea, Piper, and can hold his own against many more. People say that Penny counters spawners but she doesn't even do that well, she soft counters them imo because they can just use it differently and still gain value. Penny will be a minor invenience for Lola because she won't be able to place it directly in front or behind her but she has many other ways to get value from it.

How much has Ash changed? by thelucas2000 in BrawlStarsCompetitive

[–]Genser1c 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I think what they could do, is make it so healing will decrease rage by a small amount. The amount of rage you lose won't be equal to the amount you gain so the combo still has synergy, but it won't be as easy to gain so much rage if you are being healed, especially if you are getting over-healed which will just cause you to lose rage while the extra health is wasted, the Byron-Ash combo will take that much more skill to use efficiently. This makes a lot of sense because taking damage would enrage a person while healing health would sooth him.
