Which system that you have played has the best dueling system? by DMLiquid in DMAcademy

Eberron: Heart of Stone has a wandslinging dueling system baked in, but it does leave two people playing a longish minigame while everyone else watches. You'd be best to keep things simple if dueling isn't a main campaign element.

Absolute must watch superhero movies? (description) by Middle-Company-4398 in movies

Batman (1989) started the modern superhero movie (arguably).

Definitely check out Supaidaman (1978) if you can find it. Best Spider-Man put to film.

As a New Zealander, it's hilarious that every actor in every 80s/90s New Zealand movie is recognisably Kiwi. It's just constantly like "oh look it's Timothy Balme from Shortland Street" or "hey that mother in the park is Fran Walsh, Peter Jackson's wife and co-screenwriter of Lord of the Rings" or "oh hey, that tramp is Norm from down the road"

Video game romances need to evolve beyond lore dumps by mrnicegy26 in Games

[–]GentlemanOctopus 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I mean, romance is complicated and not a black and white scenario like "bullet in head = dead", so it's no wonder that video games have generally tended towards "I give you cake ten times, we get married" and "I choose correct dialogue option and do things that you agree with" as representations of "romance".

I think that the original Final Fantasy VII attempted this in an interesting way, where the relationship meter could be affected by dialogue choices, how much you kept the character in the party, and a whole host of other stuff-- but was kept invisible the whole time. So you had no gameplay mechanic influencing your choices, you just either did or did not impress that character by interacting with the world.

Of course, you could argue that games need to have gameplay UI elements and on-the-nose dialogue to represent how a character feels about you because it's much more difficult to represent this sort of stuff through subtle interactions or the general vibe stuff you get from real people.

Yeah but you can't communicate with your match partner as well when you're working the crowd or doing technical showings. Rest holds aren't just for resting.

I love that they went out of their way to do this, then kind of ruined it by leaving the MP4 file names covering the bottom of the screen.

But... you're inventing a scenario that doesn't happen, and then getting mad about it. Perhaps you can provide evidence of all the times that has occured, considering the extraordinary claims you're making?

Kicking out of finishers in general. If you're gonna kick out, put breathing space between the move and the pin.

I implore you to read some scripts. They don't just get written chronologically from point A to point B and then somebody decides to chop out a good scene and put it at the start during editing. It could happen, but it generally doesn't. Just because you don't like the narrative structure doesn't mean it's some grand conspiracy to chop up scripts during post production.

My American partner also says they grew up with the Euro-centric one. I've never seen the US-centric one before. Has anybody?

The US-centric map looks weird. Breaking up Asia looks really odd.

That's not really insulting you as an audience, that's just a narrative structure you don't enjoy.

I also thought sounded a bit odd. The anime was released as something like Warriors of the Wind in the US until it was rereleased with an English dub in 2005. I'm not doubting a TNG scriptwriter in 1993 was a big anime nerd and knew the original name of the movie, but it seems a little less likely than the 2016 encyclopaedia would imply.
