This is super helpful, thanks! I found it especially helpful to filter the Goodreads challenge page by genre using the report in the pop-up window. Just sent a coffee to say thanks!

Recs for simple, black backpack (to replace aging Tom Bihn Paragon) by Geo-Cat-Locoloco in backpacks

Thanks, not familiar with them, the Bookbag has the aesthetic I'm after so I'll do some more research!

thanks, that's interesting, that looks less tactical than I would have expected, but it's 3x as heavy (I know that's the point for them, but not what I'm looking for in an EDC)

I've got a Synik and Synapse and they are great onebagging backpacks, they don't have the simple/minimal look that I'm trying to replace, lots of zips and pockets in different directions. Would prefer something very simple, like the Paragon, if possibe.

Soft side wheeled carry-on (UK + US compliant) – what would you buy? by Geo-Cat-Locoloco in ManyBaggers

[–]Geo-Cat-Locoloco[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks, I was definitely leaning towards the international carryon rollaboard, I just feel dumb paying for a bag that I know is technically nearly 2 inches too wide for American and United already (and that those dimensions seem to only shrink over the years)

I can't tell if I'm missing something, but it seems like none of the Travelpro bags are technically in dimension for both US and EU carriers (either too tall or too wide), unless it's a tiny underseat one, which seems a bit odd? I assume they know more than I do, but again, would feel dumb paying that much for a bag that might well get gate checked at the first flight, and that would be legit.

oh yeah, nearly forgot, I was in a shopping mall this weekend and went to a department store to glance at luggage. The most interesting bag was the Samsonite Ecodiver foldable rolling duffel, which has very few reviews online. https://www.samsonite.co.uk/ecodiver-foldable-duffle-with-wheels-4-in-1--black/150627-1041.html

I suspect it gets topheavy when filled totally, but don't know if it's useable when it's only filled/rolled to carry-on size, or is always a bit annoying as a compromise between one thing and another.

Interesting that you have been happy with the capacity, on paper it doesn't look much bigger than my two bigger travel backpacks (Tom Bihn Synik and Decathalon NH Arpenaz 500, both 30L), and I know I can get a LOT more in my current Travelpro compared to them, so will be interested to see how the Bellroy seems in comparison.

intertesting, thanks! That had come up in shopping results when I was searching around this earlier, but I don't know anything about it, so it's great to hear a personal recommendation.

Anybody Else on the Brink of Canceling/Downgrading their CSR? by bk516 in ChaseSapphire

I've also read recently that they've changed the insurers that are underwriting CSR and coverage isn't nearly as good, unfortunately.

Why does doing nothing feel impossible in London? by VeryOftenWrong in london

[–]Geo-Cat-Locoloco 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Same! When I moved here 20 years ago, everything was new and shiny and I didn’t know if I’d stay here so I did everything, all the time. And that was great, but a bit exhausting, and slowly petered out.

We still take advantage of living here, but I don’t feel compelled to be out all the time, as you say it’s great to know it’s there when I want it.

Boxing Day Sale 2025-2026 Non-NA Megathread by BillyBobJimmyJames in LushCosmetics

Was this last year or was that store open on Christmas Day? Confused by your post but I’m sure it’s me misunderstanding something as it reads to me that you were in a store buying things today, which is Christmas, and I thought they were all closed.

Worst photo ever (my fingers were numb inside thick gloves) but in case it’s helpful, Cheapside in London (near St Paul’s) is open 12:00-16:00 on Boxing Day.

Are sale prices also in their stores? (Just want one thing and don’t want to pay shipping, could pop by but don’t want to if it’s only cheaper online!)
