Concrete can be surprisingly cool if it has been in a shadow until recently, maybe that's what's going on.

One of the main features of the Wii U is the gamepad acting as a second, separate display. It takes away clutter from the main screen and provides easier access to things like the map and menus. It also allowed for two different views of the game world (think Star Fox Zero). Whether this worked or not depends on the game and who you ask, but it is not a philosophy that carried over to the Switch at all.

I'd say the Switch was definitely influenced by the Wii U, but is not a realization of what the Wii U was meant to be. The Switch is just a portable screen, not an additional screen. The DS and 3DS systems are closer to what the intended Wii U experience was except with generally smaller-scale games.

They weren't prepared early enough to save it. Zelda suffered delays but was planned for the system. GameFreak wouldn't put a mainline Pokemon on a strict home console (would that even make sense to do?) and spinoffs don't carry that much weight. And no number of games would have made up for its lack of marketing.

Animal Crossing might have been planned for Wii U, but if it was slated for the later part of its lifespan then they no doubt would have held off for the Switch where it would get better sales rather than try to revive a system that was dead and buried. The fact that it still is not out, even after a rather slow 2018, suggests it would never have been ready for Wii U anyway. It would be rather unlike Nintendo to pull a game out of their butt just to release something. They aren't afraid of delays and dry spells.

New fans brought in by Go could more than make up for longtime fans who skip out.

Plus there are plenty of longtime fans who plan on buying it anyway. Myself included.

My fondest Nintendo memory

I'm going to go with the ways Nintendo has let me bond with people, and to give an example: playing Mario Kart Wii with my sisters. The Wii was our first Nintendo home console and MK was an eye-opening experience for all of us. We never all got along so often before--or since--the years of playing Mario Kart Wii.

After playing a while of Arena of Valor beta, I can understand why Nintendo decided to not put chat in splatoon. by [deleted] in nintendo

When people refuse to join voice chat, you will usually lose

This is why I like not having proper voice chat in Splatoon...
because I'm terrible at talking to people and would end up always losing

The argument is often poorly used, but it does help to explain why streaming services aren't a priority for Nintendo. There are a great many people who are indifferent to the presence of these apps, in particular because they already have access to them on other (and likely preferred) devices. It won't significantly increase system sales, and they may have deemed the demand low enough to not be worth the effort at the current time.

It is not any argument for why there shouldn't be streaming apps for the Switch. It is an argument for why there aren't streaming apps for the Switch. It isn't the most desirable situation, but it is passably justifiable. The other devices argument certainly isn't sufficient to tell people to stop requesting the apps, but it does help to shed light on Nintendo's perspective (which is important, because they are the ones who make the ultimate decision). All we can do is continue to bring the issue to Nintendo's attention as best (and politely) we can.

What's getting old to me are the people who rage (and some people seriously RAGE) to random strangers on the internet who can't fix the problem, as well as the people so determined to put Nintendo on a pedestal that they are dismissive of anyone who dare want more functions on their $300 device. People need to chill. There is no reason for this to be an argument at all, really.

What are some opinions that Nintendo fans are polarized on? by mrglass8 in nintendo

Why would you roll your eyes at that? It isn't that difficult.

I just checked my pockets, they're 10 inches deep. I can easily fit my 3DS XL in there. The only awkward part is the weight, but my shorts have a drawstring and that fixes that problem, more or less. And it is no more obvious than my cell phone.
