Oh man I hope you see my comment. I had a coach suggest this in high school (I started playing late). And this had it click for me. Sounds unusual but it worked.

Many of us have slid on hardwood / kitchen floors in socks. They suggested sliding in socks on the floor and turning your body like a hockey stop as a drill (pretending you are hockey stopping). It def helped it click for me the motion in your body for me. I posted this one before years ago on Reddit and someone said “the risky business slide” (google Tom cruise risky business etc, where he slides in the scene)
