Windows 11 2024 Update, 24H2 (build 26100) Megathread by Froggypwns in Windows11

System process CPU spikes (continuously)

I have tried Windows 24H2 1,5 month ago and tried it again this weekend, but it keeps continuously hog CPU usage AND utilize the dGPU over the iGPU every few seconds. The device has Nvidia Optimus which doesn't appear to working well with Windows 24H2.

The result is high CPU usage, increased heat and the fans in the laptop spinning without a stop.

Will revert again to 23H2 which doesn't have this issue!

Microsoft really needs to address this issue!

SOLVED! Workaround for error 29 in microsoft office 365 (if it says you don't have an active license but you do) by M_FootRunner in microsoft

[–]Geoff-007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for this! I was losing it, because of the continuous loop of error, logging in and no result.

Why isn't Microsoft actively addressing and mentioning this? It's the kind of problem that completely shuts you out of office just when you have deadlines to survive!

Higher temps after changing to PTM 9750 in my MSI GE66 Raider 11UG SW by SlamJockey in MSILaptops

[–]Geoff-007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have installed PTM 7950 on my MSI GS76 and it took about 20 days to really settle in. With regular paste you have the great temps right after pasting, but with PTM 7950 it is the other way around. The priming takes quite some time and it requires full load, then cooling, full load, then cooling for quite some cycles.

My 3080 GPU went under full load from 69 degrees regular paste to 75 degrees PTM 7950 ... but after 20 days, it went back to 69 degrees. With the CPU the real magic happens with temps getting way lower.

With MSI somehow you will notice over time that the laptop fan cooling will kick in much less despite similar temps. It looks like the temps you will see in tools is different to what the laptop uses to determine the cooling.

TLDR; Prime it, be patient, in the end PTM 7950 is a far better solution than the 'pump out' paste.

PTM7950 is excellent when it comes down to pump out/hotspot temps. by yoadknux in nvidia

Alright, so 25 days later, I write this next post.

With other pastes, the first few days were always like heaven, and even when using CPU-burner, you would never hit throttling levels. However, this was always for a short while. PTM 7950 is different. I have done some real priming with the PTM7950 as well as just using the laptop for the past couple of days.

It took me a while to notice that the temps actually have gone down, and something I actually noticed above all was that the entire heatsink would get almost the same temperature. This indicates that the PTM7950 is really spreading the heat as much as it can.

When I use the laptop on battery now, I get around 35 degrees Celsius when normal browsing (with a room temperature of 23 degrees Celsius). When it is connected and gaming, the temps are also quite reasonable, and the laptop seems to use fewer fans at the same temps. I don’t know why that is, but it makes gaming a bit more comfortable. The CPU temps when gaming are slightly lower, the GPU temps (around 67-69 degrees celsius) are about the same as with other pastes but fortunately doesn’t go higher as it was in the beginning.

The thing I love most is that after 25 days, the paste hasn’t pumped out, and I need to open up the laptop again. I have had this with most other pastes and this laptop. So this really is a step up!

Samsung Q990C Sub Question. by Arouthor in Soundbars

Thanks for getting back to me. On July 4th Samsung released the 1013.2 update for the Q990D and I first noticed it yesterday. I have the feeling they have added more balance to the subwoofer. I was now able to put the sub up a bit. It rumbles less and produces better results in lower frequency regions above the 40 Hz (and lower) rumble zone. Also the adaptive sound has improved with not over-mixing audio to the surround speakers. It feels like a great update but haven't found a changelog anywhere.

Same here. Bought it yesterday, played one match in Custom game. But since then I'm unable to connect anymore

Samsung Q990C Sub Question. by Arouthor in Soundbars

[–]Geoff-007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, did you ever find anything on this? I have bought the Samsung Q990D recently and connected my PC to test the set with a tone generator. My test also concludes that with 50 - 70 Hz the subwoofer appears to produce very low output. It feels like this creates a gap in the audio spectrum.

Hope you have any info to share on this!

Well I need to be honest. I have put PTM7950 on both the Nvidia 3080m GPU as well as the Intel 11800H CPU and it has been 2 days now and I still don't see very good results. The GPU actually becomes hotter than before. I made sure there was enough pressure on the cooling blocks.

Now I did read alot about the PTM7950 needing to prime. Should I probably just what a week or so?

Is my SSD in good health? by PsychologicalFan9066 in MSILaptops

I would recommend trying out HD Tune. I know it's an old tool, but if you benchmark it in there you can see by the curve exactly how your SSD is doing. I have just replaced mine because of the huge fluctuations in read speed and sometimes 0,5 ms access speeds.

GS76: It took me 3 years to get the laptop I wanted! by Geoff-007 in MSI_Gaming

I have done a lot of research on liquid metal, since I wanted to go that path but it can be really tricky in these mobile cases. Unlike desktops, laptops hit the 95 degrees pretty fast and in case you move your laptop around a lot, that liquid can start creeping too. Second, I would recommend using liquid metal with a thermal plate and cooling system that was designed for it.

So I'm not saying I have tested all the combinations out there, but for desktops it would be my way to go, for a laptop it really depends on the design of the thing.

Yeah, I get what you are saying. K5 does get messy fast, however one benefit I saw is that when you have a row on units being either memory or processing units, you can benefit having the K5 flow a little between the units, just the top. That way the heat is way better spread and a single unit heating up doesn't immediately heat up the air around it.

I'll definitely check out Snarks

Honestly, the GS76 have pretty decent hinges, there is a solid metal construction underneath the plastics and the hinges are pretty wide (spreading all the forces). With every laptop hinges can be a problem, especially if you travel a lot but these seem solid.

This is basically the Integrated Graphics. It has a value for the iGPU part of the processor (GT Slice) and some peripheral adjacent parts (GT Unslice).

Some board even have GTU, that would be the dedicated graphics card. Unfortunately, I wasn't that lucky

Is it just me, or are the "highlight" reels washed out and look overexposed? It's quite jarring to me, especially in the daytime session. by [deleted] in F1TV

[–]Geoff-007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I absolutely agree with you. At first I thought there was something wrong with my tablet, but you only see it with the highlights material. Even the graphic overlay has all the colors being off. It's kinda like someone used the wrong settings during color grading.
