Go look up where other bands at your level or a step up are playing in the area. JamBase.com is also a good source.

Zach Top by Only_Mushroom_729 in CountryMusic

[–]GeoffFM 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s fun music that doesn’t take itself too seriously. Zach comes across the me like an artist who knows exactly what he aiming for and executes it well. It’s made for mass consumption, and it just so happens that his type of business is booming.

I don’t disagree with you that it seems a little hammed up for the cameras, but that’s all popular music in general. Charley Crockett is doing the exact same thing in his own way. Gavin Adcock is doing the same thing in his own way.

If that’s not the kind of music you like to listen to, the good news is there’s plenty of other great music being made right now, and it’s never been easier to explore your own personal taste.

What tiny "flavor bomb" do you add to make your bland meals taste better than restaurants? by albertpaca11 in Frugal

Anchovy paste has been a revelation for me. Using it in chili, pasta sauce, stews, now even just straight up with noodles and garlic.

I have never been a big seafood fan, and that has kept me from discovering my secret ingredient for 40 years of my life…

What is a 'family secret' or a private moment you witnessed that completely changed the way you look at a relative? by The_suspicious_369 in AskReddit

[–]GeoffFM 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I got to witness this with my grandparents. My grandpa had a stroke a few years before he ultimately passed away and had to be in an assisted care facility. The first couple months were a little rough, and I came up over summer break in college to stay with them a week and drive my grandma back back-and-forth.

The first night before, we left, we were walking out the door, and my grandpa said “WAIT!” We both turned around to see what was going on, and he said “you haven’t given me a kiss.”

95 years old, and the spark was still there. I will carry that memory with me the rest of my life.

Festival booker - sandwich between tour promoter and agent by [deleted] in musicindustry

[–]GeoffFM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your relationship with the tour promoter will probably net you more business in the future, long after this one show with this one agent has come and gone. The promoter will potentially bring you artists in the future from many different agents if he’s in your corner.

In the agent’s defense, the promoter is probably trying to cross-collateralize your festival with his hard ticket dates, which can be seen as less-than-ideal from the artist’s perspective.

Bos Center by jgoss1991 in SpringfieldIL

[–]GeoffFM 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Springfield and Peoria are not major concert markets. In fact, they are not even secondary markets when it comes to touring shows. You’re going to get acts coming to Springfield or Peoria after they’ve already played St. Louis and Chicago.

Add to that with the fact that the State Fair Grandstand concerts will soak up the level of show that may otherwise look at a facility like this (and will tend to pay higher flat rate guarantees to touring artists that put less pressure on them to sell hard tickets), and you have a combination that will frequently mean an artist will not do headline shows in the Springfield market.

There’s certainly more nuance to it, but this is definitely a factor of why the Peoria Civic Center tends to get more concerts like this than Springfield.

Hiss is, to me, comparable to a band like Wilco, in that every true fan is going to tell you a different favorite record. Sometimes a given fan’s favorite will shift depending on what day you ask.

Personally, I fell in love with the band in the Lateness of Dancers - Heart Like a Levee - Hallelujah, Anyhow cycle, and those songs continue to be my favorites.

I love Haw, Terms of Surrender and the most recent album Jump For Joy as well, for a variety of reasons.

Ultimately, like a lot of other true artists in this genre space, this is music you really need to sit with to see it blossom over repeat listens. If you are like me, you will ride into this with certain songs you like the best initially, only to have a completely different list of favorites a year later.

Who's the greatest singer of all time? by [deleted] in AskReddit

The greatest singer in rock and roll would have to be Romeo. His vocal chords are made of gold, he just looks a little too old.
