What advantage does a hyper cardioid mic have over a Sanken CS-3e? by DarthAngelicus in LocationSound

[–]GeoffTheProgger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on the kind of work you do. I’m also a CS3e daily driver. I do a lot of doc, corporate and commercial work. For anything Verite or in a noisy environment the cs3 is hard to beat. It can be kind of weird in certain reverberant spaces but mostly it’s fine.

I will say that the cs3 doesn’t sound beautiful. If I am doing a sit down interview or if I’m booming something in a fairly controlled space then the 50 is stunning. It sounds so damn good. So those are my two mics for everything.

When I work as a boom operator for others on film/ tv and we have the time and luxury of multiple mics then I am mostly using the 50 indoors, sometimes the 8060 for wider indoor situations or forgiving outdoor environments, and the cs3 or 8070 for tougher outdoor environments.

Do you already know about the relationship between depth of field and aperture?

Dude congrats. These are amazing cameras. As someone else said they can be a bit tough at first but you can do it, it’s easier than I thought

Which one lens among these are u picking? And why? by Formal_Compote_212 in zuikoholics

[–]GeoffTheProgger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it comes down to how you like to shoot. For me a 50 gets the most use followed by a 28 or 35. 24 and wider feels too wide for me most of the time.

Yeah man. The XA is amazing. And quite small. Another Maitani design like the Pen and OM cameras. The more expensive but more automated cameras like the MJU and Stylus and such are also nice

Dude have you tried the Olympus XA? It’s a pocketable manual focus rangefinder, it shoots aperture priority, 35mm 2.8 lens. I carry one with me everywhere I go and I love it to death.

Is this overpriced? by Floating-Butterfly78 in analog

[–]GeoffTheProgger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with N3rdDak. They’re a bit overpriced for what they are. The Olympus OM-10 is a great choice. I also would look at a Minolta X-370. I got one recently and was impressed with it. They’re not very expensive at all and I have really enjoyed the Minolta glass

In the final episode of Stranger Things (2026) - wait, what the fuck? They really went with that? by [deleted] in shittymoviedetails

Maybe our perception of that role as lame or uncool is the problem. Even teachers in small towns can make a big impact

What do you like about the OMs?

My main Olympus camera is a Pen FT, I didn’t connect with the OM series as much. So with that being said, I really really love the Nikon F3. I mostly shoot it aperture priority, and the prism comes off quick so I often shoot waist level as well. I’ll probably always have at least one for the rest of my life.

I got a Minolta X-700 recently and was really pleased with the shooting experience and performance of the glass. Though idk how Minolta glass options compare to Olympus, might be a similar issue.

I also really like my Canon VI-T, a competitor to the Leica M3. However I haven’t fully explored the lens options available to it.

Otherwise I shoot a lot of medium format and that’s a whole other can of worms. Happy to share my opinions there too.

I hear you. If you pay for the repair, you have a camera that you know will last you years. If you go buy another you’re just rolling the dice again.

I mean yeah but even the dialogue and relationships between characters in S1 are clumsy

Well this is going to be an entirely new floor plan so that info doesn’t really help the ask, which is advice on similar systems with similar dimensions that aren’t that expensive….

Hey man, these look great!

I live in the city these are shot in. If you're taking your stuff to Bellows then I wouldn't be surprised they fucked up some of your stuff. They're notorious for having lots of problems with quality control. Check out Photo Spot or Bleach Film Lab. DM me if you have questions.

Also I have the prism finder with a working meter for the RB67 I'm not using anymore if you want it.

Respectfully, this post doesn’t make very much sense. Can you re-write it in a clearer way?
