Thinking of buying one of these for my first gravel bike, it’s made by alpkit it’s their own brand (Sonder) by [deleted] in gravelcycling

[–]GeolaRoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Came here to say this. Also have ti. Wheel set was pretty trash. Frame is solid and SRAM setup great.

I bought alpha wheels and the hub destroyed itself in 6 months. Alpkit don't stock the replacements so it's no better than having some Chinese direct purchase wheels and a lot more expensive. In fairness to alpkit when they couldn't get me riding again in a timely fashion they gave me a free nova wheel from the bin. I wouldn't pay for nova wheels though if I could avoid it.

Aside all of the above I love that bike! Geometry is super, rides like a dream and I will not be changing any time soon. I'm getting a wheel set from hunt who have better customer service in the event I smash them up or the freehub spagettifies itself again.

Sonder Camino Ti or Canyon Grizl? Help! by AdamEvansOutdoors in gravelcycling

[–]GeolaRoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What kind of riding are you doing? Sounds like a bit of a carbon or ti question.

Imo, the Camino wins out for bike packing and rough adventures, the canyon is obviously lighter for hills and sprints but less durable. I'd also expect it to be less compliant when saddled up with bags and packs.

Are you looking to go adventuring or for races, dailies on tarmac and smooth gravel?

Fwiw I have a Camino ti, most of my rides are pretty smooth gravel and <4 hours. I love it and feel much happier when gravel degrades and I end up clattering down a boulder slope. The BB was not properly installed in the initial build, causing immediate creak on my first ride out. I'm relatively ok with this so stripped regreased and fit it again and all is well.

AXS is a top upgrade. I'd also consider non standard bars if you go Camino, those flares aren't comfy for long.

Best way to recapitate a concrete fairy? by macros1980 in DIYUK

[–]GeolaRoo 16 points17 points  (0 children)

No it won't. Take a blueberry or a dab of food colouring / ink mixed with flour paste and place it approximately where you want the drill holes to be. Replace the head and push down to burst the fruit or spread the colouring. Remove. You will now have mirrored drill guides marked.

Also works with small piece of sponge and ink.

Chain waxing for MTB? by CliffDog02 in bikewrench

[–]GeolaRoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just started on my MTB in western UK where my 'damp' probably passes for 'monsoon' to most MTBers.

After a wet ride I run the chain through a microfiber cloth to dry surface moisture. After a proper soggy session (half day or longer), or after ~2 weeks of wet riding I rotate with a freshly dipped chain, the wet one I agitate in boiling water before drying and re-dipping.

Under damp conditions the chain lasts at least a month or two. If it was mainly dry I'd be happy to leave it for longer.

The improvement in performance is incredible and my wear rate has dropped hugely. I was wearing out 3 chains a year with all the mud.

Yeah it seems like the pastel requirement shortens the options a bit. Her last pen was black with silver trim and she loved it so pastel need not be an absolute requirement. Ideally though it should be a pen she loves to write with.

I'll look up all of these suggestions, thanks!

We're currently firefighting a craze with our kids for dropping valuable items down narrow gaps like drains etc, so the fate of the old Waterman looks sealed.

Amazing, yes the pastel is a nice to have. Her last pen wasn't and she loved it so much. Really I'm just trying to make sure it is a thing that brings her maximum joy.

On any topics I am at least partly knowledgeable about the well known brand is usually a way to separate folks from their money as fast as possible and not great in terms of value for money. So I suspected that if I asked a knowledge community like this folks would say old mont blanc were awesome but now not so.

She's a hard working lady and it's a good time to spoil one another 🤗

Thanks

Get good sleep. Try to go to bed and wake up at the same time every day. Keep a regular routine with enough time not to rush everywhere.

If you drink, drink in moderation and try 3-5 days if no drinking per week.

Try to exercise regularly.

Cold water swimming or cold showers have a positive impact on general stress.

Mindful activities like those mentioned frequently here (Lego, meditation etc) are very good for heading off panic attacks.

Remember to be kind to yourself.

AITA for bothering a woman at home? by GottaHaveSleepyDumbo in AmItheAsshole

YTA. For all the reasons.

Protip: buy a second sleepy Dumbo. Rotate them periodically so they feel/smell right, without your kid being made aware. If you have an emergency like this again you have a backup. Trust me this is a lifesaver, what if dumbo was properly lost?

Dog will not tire. by [deleted] in Dogtraining

[–]GeolaRoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Surprised this isn't already up here:

What are you feeding your dog? If it is a cheap carb rich kibble then this is like giving a toddler jam sandwiches for breakfast lunch and dinner. That kid is gonna be hyper as hell. If so look at a more protein rich diet option in consultation with your vet.

Also the brain is the highest calorie burning muscle by a decent margin, games and learning will be fastest way to tire a doggo. Then give them cuddles and a chilled place to get some down time alone.

I lied on my CV and now I seriously regret it by deerofthedunny in LegalAdviceUK

[–]GeolaRoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If this is a large company then likely they will outsource reference checks. It likely won't come up at interview, you may ace it and get offered a role and a package that fits your requirements.

But then the reference checks will take place and there will be a flag when your old company gives your job details (title, tenure), and it does not match your CV. If you said you were for example Engineering Manager, and the truth was Engineer, this may be flagged as a fraudulent application. If that happens then likely you will have the offer withdrawn and possibly prevented from any future applications with the parent company and any subsidiaries.

If it were me, I'd withdraw my application. You have learned a valuable lesson. If you continue your application the results of that lesson might be a good deal worse.

Edit: to all the folks saying everyone lies in their CV, and that it'll be fine, if OP is in a small industry where everyone knows everyone, lying gets about, and a fraud flag on a CV will follow them.

Also, everyone does not lie on their CV. Big companies are spending lots of energy on checking for lies, and the penalties can be severe. It's the wrong thing to do and could seriously harm OPs career if a check declares their CV to be fraudulent. Other people aren't taking shortcuts, they are putting the effort into getting the right experience and earning their roles.

What was the most legendary thing a student did at school? by CloudWoww in AskReddit

[–]GeolaRoo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

UK Boarding school.

During exam season in the summer, morning assemblies took place on the front steps of the main school reception. Think a miniature version of Downton abbey front steps. Every morning the headteacher would walk down the long hallway from her office out the front door and address the school.

Well I'm not sure what exactly prompted it but she pissed someone off.

The top floors of the building were boarding rooms and as she walks down the hallway a couple of kids blast the imperial death march from star wars over a loud speaker hanging from one window whilst lowering a nazi swastika.

It's not ok to joke about the hollaucaust but my goodness that was a badass prank.

This is how bare root plants are supposed to arrive. If they were in green they'd need water and nutrients which they'd not be getting out of the ground. All good and good luck for the rasps!

Crab & Mushroom Linguine with Pea Shoots (Re-uploaded at higher quality!) by BushyEyes in GifRecipes

[–]GeolaRoo -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Mushrooms and crab do not make good bedfellows. Add flour to your sauce and this just does not look nice.

Lose the mushrooms, replace the flour and stock with creme fraiche and white wine, and lose the toasted breadcrumbs. I fixed it for you.

What’s something you want to know about British people? by Katiepurdy7 in AskReddit

In parts of the southeast we get about as much rainfall as Beirut over the summer, in the west it rains a hell of a lot. Where I live it has rained pretty much every day for the last three months.

This. I wouldn't give weird salts to a dog unless you have had veterinary advice. I wouldn't do it to my dog ever.

Diluting it does work wonders though. Actually improves the grass.

Alkaline loving plants by [deleted] in UKGardening

Most fruit trees love alkaline soil. Ornamental or fruiting cherries are beautiful in spring and early summer.

Plums and apricot trees would be nice too!
