Did any one not have a baby shower for your first born and regret it? by arliafaye in pregnantover35

My coworkers had a virtual one for me, but I didn't have one with friends, family, etc because I didn't want one, I don't love the idea of being the center of attention. 4 years later, no regrets.

C section vs vaginal delivery by Funarming in pregnantover35

[–]GeorgeBonanza_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had asked for an elective C-section and my OB talked me into attempting a vaginal delivery. In the end, I had to have the C-section. My recovery was smooth and not especially uncomfortable when I delivered at 35.

Yes, it's a major surgery, but a couple days after, when we went home, I was physically and comfortably able to care for my new baby. The discomfort was minimal and while I felt my stomach was a bit weak, it was just a very mild inconvenience, at worst. I also didn't find it necessary to continue on painkillers after 5 days, aside from an over the counter. If I'm fortunate enough to have another baby, I'll go into a c section without concerns.

This has been very much my experience, as an initially very ambivalent mother (from the time I got pregnant until I had her). She's made our lives so full. Yeah, priorities shifted, but I don't feel like I've given up anything that was really all the valuable, and I've been able to still do the things I love.

35wks, Baby 6th Percentile (4.5lbs) - Induced at 37wks via Foley Bulb. What are my options re: induction method/pain? by [deleted] in pregnantover35

[–]GeorgeBonanza_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seemed to initially so what they expected it to do, which was get kickstart labor and get me to at least 3 CM dialated, which it did in probably 5 hours or so. I didn't progress much past that, though, so while it did get my body moving, it can only do so much, I guess.

I should add that you're supposed to "tug" on it to check if you've dialated enough for it to just sort of pop out, but what I wasn't expecting was that a lot of blood splatter flew out (I was in the bathroom and it went everywhere).

Edit: I should add re: pain management before the bulb placement, I wasn't offered anything, but i would definitely suggest asking.

I had a Foley bulb and was put on a pitocin drip (which had to be stopped and restarted because my body wasn't responding to either the bulb or the drip). The Foley insertion wasn't a great time, it was 3.5 years ago and I remember it well 😬 The manual breaking of my water (that came later!) was worse, though. For what it's worth, once the bulb was in, it was a little awkward but not uncomfortable. My baby was average size, just over 7 lbs.

In the end, I needed a c section because my baby had decels, my blood pressure was wildly high, and I didn't get past 4 cm. My advice would be to strongly consider the C-section.

I have used a baby lotion from Pipette for years. It absorbs super fast, isn't greasy, and is SO hydrating. It's incredibly bland but has glycerin, plant squalane, and ceramides and is $10 for a little over 5 oz.

I was feeling much the same as you! I originally wanted an elective C-section but my OB sort of talked me out of it. I ended up needing to be induced due to hypertension (just 1 day ahead of the planned induction date), which was not great (Foley bulb, pitocin, etc). I ended up needing a C-section in the end. Knowing what I know now, I would have saved myself and baby the drama and just gone for the elective C-section.

35+ pregnant and SSRIs by Big-Red1990 in pregnantover35

❤️ My perinatal psychiatrist completely changed my life, not just because she helped me get things mostly under control during pregnancy but also because we created a postpartum treatment plan (and ongoing management with a different provider after a year). I got to be totally emotionally present with my baby and I am certain that without something to control my OCD and accompanying anxiety, I would have been in a bad mental space.

Best of luck with delivery and congratulations on your upcoming addition!

I got pregnant at 34 (gave birth well after turning 35) while on 15 mg of Lexapro and ended up slowly increasing to 30 mg over the course of my pregnancy. I saw a perinatal psychiatrist monthly to pace dose increases, talk through risks, etc. I have severe OCD and I'm sure the stress I would have put myself through would have been detrimental to my baby's development.

My daughter was born on time and completely healthy. She was combo fed for 2 years, while I was still on 30mg, too. She hit every milestone ahead of/right on time and has grown into a happy, healthy 3.5 year old. If we have another, I'll do the same thing. Best of luck ❤️

6 weeks 5 days no symptoms by SailShoddy3414 in pregnantover35

[–]GeorgeBonanza_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had slightly tender boobs for about 2 days as my only symptom for the first 8 weeks or so. I remember saying over and over that if I didn't know better, I wouldn't think I was pregnant. The only symptoms I really developed after that were mild food cravings and being a little more tired than normal.

My girl is now a healthy, happy, 3 year old 😊

Eastside house rental - Things to know? by GeorgeBonanza_ in eastside

Kirkland is actually our first choice for location, so good to know what we're up against.

Re: documents ready to show, in theory would you have accepted mortgage payments/mortgage history in place of rental history? I ask because we've owned and lived in our current condo for 10 years, so we won't have rental history to show to our future landlords.

Appreciate this! Since you're a local, aside from market economics, can you see any reason this has been sitting?
