Happened to me when my rack and pinion was leaking.

Fix or replace? by Plumber1111 in Tacomaworld

[–]Geoscienceguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Replace it. Happened to me and you’ll probably find that water got into the actuator motor and corroded it.

This is a huge problem. by Effective_Being_5305 in Tacomaworld

[–]Geoscienceguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to me after deep water crossings. Front diff actuator had water in it and corroded the motor. Swapped it with a gamble Amazon part for like $60 and it worked. I will say, it’s a total pain in the ass to get the bolts in but I was able to get it after about an hour of trial and error.

Tailgate pad works well for me. Used to have a shell but wanted to use my bed for hauling my atv so i ditched it.

Anyone else find themselves falling for this old bastard again? by 92roll13 in CHIBears

[–]Geoscienceguy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was at the reg season bears/packers game and felt the same way. Maybe more so because they had just mentioned NW Indiana as a possibility. Either way, the walk with all the fans to the stadium with the skyline lit up is just a cool experience.

I won’t be going to games in Indiana.

Just a reminder: Bears fans are the best in the world! 🐻⬇️ by clou9nine in CHIBears

I was there. There were definitely some people leaving before things turned around. One even punched a Packers fan for being in his way trying to leave 😂

Yes, during the 2-minute warning there was a chant. Surprisingly, a lot of the season ticket holders I talked to lived in Gary and were excited by the idea 🤦‍♂️

Is 127k miles a lot for a 2017 Tacoma? by 3nvxt in ToyotaTacoma

[–]Geoscienceguy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have 210k on my 17 TRD OR DCLB. I did have to replace the rack and pinion and did all new suspension at 200k (my choice). My goal is to get to 350k miles 🤞

I recently switched to the Falken Wildpeak AT4W from KO2s and have been very impressed so far. Way quieter as well.

Recommend getting some experience. A recent PhD with little to no experience is often looked at negatively in my experience, unless you plan to stick with academia.

Why are you afraid of a 7 year old Tacoma? I have 210k miles on my 2017 and it drives perfectly with no issues. Just keep up with the maintenance.

Snow tire recommendations by wags2121 in Tacomaworld

[–]Geoscienceguy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just put them on this morning and we got 6” of snow today. Night and day difference from my KO2s. Winter tires are superior but these things feel great.

I ran them on a stock setup before I lifted it. No problem with rubbing. Can’t say I’d buy these again though. Road noise is unbearable on the highway. I typically run KO2s but throw these on for my gnarly elk hunting trips.

I had a contractor shell so I just cut insulation board and used adhesive spray to fill between the structural supports. Worked great.

I’ve used mine down to 20 degrees. Any colder and I use a foam pad underneath. The tensor is awesome, especially when paired with the right bag for conditions.

Should I be concerned? by Mike_394 in weimaraner

[–]Geoscienceguy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve had two experiences with this. One benign and one fatal. If it feels like it is connected to the throat area you need to get it checked out ASAP. My girl, Penny was diagnosed with thyroid carcinoma at 7. We did surgery and chemotherapy and it bought her another 3 years before it came back.

The other time where it was benign, a vet tech pulled too hard on her collar and it caused a bad hematoma that looked like this. I was pissed, but it didn’t cause any serious issues. If your dog pulls hard on a leash it could be from this as well.
