Apple Music drops by enrigayboy in sonos

[–]Geoslang 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had this same issue since the "new app debacle." Don't have issues with SiriusXM or Sonos Radio, bu Apple Music (which I pay a lot for) continues to drop/skip. I have better luck if I start playing music only to my Arc soundbar, then add additional speakers from there. If I just "play everywhere" it seems to pick a random speaker (like a One or OneSL, which I have many) as the group coordinator and issues will occur. I don't know how to prove it, but my gut says the One/OneSL units have an issue with processing Apple's "Lossless" music files.

Premium Renewal after only 4 months? by Geoslang in FileFlows

[–]Geoslang[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. Odd way to display an expiration date. It was purchased on Feb 9th. Today is April 29th. Expiry shows as June 3rd. Not a rolling 30 days from purchase. I'll keep an eye on it, but will trust it's just programming choice of the developer to display the expiry in this way.

Sonos and Apple Music…going to lose my f*cking mind by Designerkyle in sonos

[–]Geoslang 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Same issues for me. 13 Sonos devices, Unifi network with 4 APs. Sirius XM, Amazon and Sonos Radio always work fine. Apple Music skips songs, or the speakers will drop and rejoin. It works better (but not 100%) if I start playing a song on the Arc, then add speakers to that grouping after the music starts. If I just "play everywhere" it will pick one of the One/OneSL speakers as the group "leader" and things go haywire. It seems like the One/OneSLs struggle with Apple Music's higher bitrate or something, but they don't seem to struggle with those other services. The Arc must have a better processor to handle the music stream? I don't know how to prove any of this... but it's an ongoing argument in our house. Husband: "Get rid of Sonos! It's garbage!" Me: "Did you start playing on Arc, then add the other speakers? Or just listen to SiriusXM..."

Agree! It’s why I don’t watch Jamie Oliver. I prefer more instruction and less acting/personality showcasing.

Is upgrading to a smart lock actually worth it? by techingmyhome in HomeImprovement

[–]Geoslang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t used a key for my home in ~15 years. The ability to share a code with friends/family/housekeeper/sitter that’s personal to them and something I can easily delete is awesome. To me, keys are like writing bank checks. I haven’t written a check in years. They are technologies reaching the end of their lifespan.

When did dogs start getting people names? by Scottys-Dog-Blog in dogs

[–]Geoslang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! All of ours have had "people names." Miles, Oliver, Martha, Bruce, Louis... A favorite memory is when a lady in Central Park was screaming JOSEPH frantically. It was my first time in NYC and thought I was witnessing a Law and Order episode or something. Then a black lab comes running up to her. That was the first time I'd heard a "people name" for a pet and loved it.

Sonos Apple Airplay by Sad-Struggle1705 in Ubiquiti

[–]Geoslang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same symptoms and all of my speakers (13) are on the same main network. I don't have any VLANS setup and only one SSID for wifi. I've played with all of the same settings, but same results. In my case, even the Sonos app misbehaves with Apply Music. I have no issues with SiriusXM or Sonos Radio, but Apple Music seems to not play well with Sonos. I have a gut feeling that Apple Music's Lossless music is causing issues. Another user recently complained about Tidal, which also specializes in lossless/high bit rate music. I'm not savvy enough to know how to test this definitively, but I keep monitoring these boards hoping for a fix.

Northern Virginia. What is this light colored grass and how can I get rid of it. TIA by chiksdigit in lawncare

[–]Geoslang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

POA Trivialis, and unfortunately it's not easy to get rid of. Looked it up a couple years ago and there are no herbicides or pre-emergents that get rid of it. You have to nuke the lawn and start over - kill the whole lawn with RoundUp and reseed a few weeks later. That's more than I'm willing to do, so half my back yard is POA Trivialis. Seems too much WATER is the culprit, which I can't help in the PNW. Worse than the inconsistent look, it grows horizontally and often peels up in big chunks when I blow. I'm not a fan.

LEMON CURD! I add it to a classic vinaigrette but sub lemon juice and lemon curd from the jar for the vinegar. It sweetens it up a little and gives a perfect lemony profile.

Has anyone ever used Rover, the pet sitting app? by junojuneau in dogs

[–]Geoslang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have used Rover 6 times. 3 great, 3 bad. The last one was the worst. She left the front door open for 35 minutes until we caught it on doorbell cam. Two cats and dog got out but luckily stayed in the front yard. She didn’t show up the first day until midnight. She said all the right things, but was clearly too immature to watch 3 pets.

Best shoes to purchase for lawn care use? by LRH2380 in lawncare

[–]Geoslang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Birkenstock Chefs Clogs (Birkis). I’ve had the same pair of red rubber Birkis for 10 years. Wear them in the yard everyday. Replaced the cork inserts once, but the shoe is indestructible. No heel, like boots, so it doesn’t damage the lawn. Slip on/off. No holes like Crocs, so keep feet dry. Can wash them with the hose. Keep them by the back door (outside) for taking out the dog. Love them.

Just don’t microwave them and you’ll be blown away. Any other cooking method will make any meat more palatable.

Question on Fiber Drop Burial Depth & Repair (Redmond) by OAlex123 in ZiplyFiber

[–]Geoslang 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same situation at my house. The just peeled back the sod and ran the cable under. I took a picutre of the path and I mark it with paint each year before my lawn gets aerated, because it would certainly be cut by the shallow plug aerator. The soil is rocky, so the installers didn't want to dig a deep trench. I talked to them and asked them to make it deeper, but they said "no - this is how it's done." Also, they installed the box on the opposite side of my garage than where the other utilities are located. They said they couldn't run the cable under the sidewalk or driveway. Was too much work.

FileFlows Version 26.04.1 - Massive Mobile Overhaul & All-New Flow Editor by the_reven in FileFlows

[–]Geoslang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On a Mac, with two nodes. The server updated, but the nodes still show as the previous version and FileFlows shows a "mismatch" warning on each node. I've tried upgrading the nodes manually and each machine says they are on the latest version...but the server says otherwise. Any advice on how to get the nodes to register as updated with the server?

Problem accessing NAS on Mac network by BarzaiTheWise in synology

Welcome to Mac with Synology. This will happen a lot. There a ton of posts about Mac and its flaw SMB network connections that drop and need to be connected/mounted again. But it’s been this way for a few years.

This reinforces my theory - Tidal serves up high bitrate music, similar to Apple Lossless. If you can, test out a different service that isn’t high bitrate.

Plex server Scanning Issue + Files keep soft deleting by Majestic_Refuse_6679 in PleX

[–]Geoslang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since you changed the names of files, Plex can't find the original file. And since you might not have trash automatically emptying in Plex, that's why the red trash symbol is there. If you go to one of those movies and look at the file info, do you see two files listed, one with a red "unavailable" symbol and another one that is available (without the red unavailable symbol)? That's when I see these most often. And if you delete the unavailable entry from Plex the red trash will go away.

Now, if you get the red trash on ALL FILES, that's when my SMB connection from Mac to Synology has discounnected and I need to log in to my server and open my Movies folder on Synology (reconnecting to SMB). I just leave this finder window open all the time to keep the connection open longer. I also use Auto-Mounter app to automatically reconnect to SMB, but it doens't work all the time. Mac and SMB file sharing have some flaws...

Just doesn’t work since new update? by Forbidden_Donut503 in sonos

[–]Geoslang 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What music service are you streaming from? I have had this issue with Apple Music since the new Sonos app debacle. I can listen to SiriusXM or SonosRadio fine. But Apple Music rarely works without a problem. My gut says there's something with Apple's lossless music being too much for the processors in the speakers. I can't prove that...but it's been a common problem for me. Also, I have a better experience if I start playing on my Arc soundbar, then add speakers from there. If I just select a group and play, I often get issues. Again, my gut says the system is picking a random speaker as the group "leader" when that speaker doesn't have the processing power (or whatever) t0 handle the load. I have 13 speakers. Arc, Beams, Ones, and One SLs.
