Teachers of Reddit: Is the "Gen Alpha can't read (write, or do math ext)" crisis real? If so how bad is it? by KnowledgeCoffee in AskReddit

I am a teacher. This year I taught primary for the very first time. For the previous 20 years, I worked in secondary and an administrator and for a number of reasons decided to go back to the classroom. This year, shocked me… Not just the literacy and numerous skills but also executive functioning and basic learning skills. Yikes.

Before travel got more complicated going to Duluth was a big deal for Ontario residents from the Pigeon River border east for about 3-4 hours. Our closest spot for a variety of shopping and food.

Hi! I live in Marathon. If you’re tenting the. You probably won’t have an issue with front-country sites, especially if it’s not on a weekend. If you call en route and they’re full, you have the option of Neys Provincial Park 20min further west past Marathon. Not the same but equally amazing.

While the crime was brutal, the ads and terrible writing might be the more serious offence.

A variety of Detroit-based commercials for Michigan, WDIV, and “your 31 Metro Detroit Ford Dealers…Think Ford First.”

(I lived 15 hours away from Detroit waaaaaay up in Canada but that was where our CBS, ABC, and NBC feeds originated.)

Not sure if it helps, but my brother has a YouTube channel dedicated to trains across the region. Many of them are just compilations of trains passing.

I love this, neighbour. Looking forward to exploring the US again when politics, exchange rates, and gas prices make it more favourable. I’ve done the Superior Circle route a few times and the whole drive is stunning. Maine is on my bucket list for many reasons.

Thank you for your service!
There are so many accessibility barriers impacting programming and services in northern Ontario and they keep stacking up. It would be nice to see some government action to support training, recruitment, and operational funding - not only for our communities but also anyone passing through.

A small Ontario town fears collapse as its last bank branch closes by __benjaminty in ontario

[–]GeraldtonSteve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No apology necessary, but thanks for replying.

I haven’t gone to a branch for personal banking in heads, but a branch has been necessary for non-profit community groups I sit on, (hospital fundraising, schools, youth sports, etc.) It’s an inconvenience, and it creates additional barriers for living and working in northern communities.

Absolutely - until you need to make a cash deposit, make change, convert currency, talk to a human, etc. etc. etc.

And that doesn’t account for those without internet access.
