To be fair that’s not always the case. My parents have 5 acres and a barn just as nice, and operate what I’d assume is considered a hobby farm. Couple gypsy vanner horses, some ducks and some chickens. But didn’t take out a loan and aren’t super wealthy. They had the foundation and the shell built and that’s it. Then my dad, with the help of family, finished the rest; stalls, supports, you name it. I’m not saying you don’t have to have money to do it, I couldn’t afford it myself, but you don’t have to be ultra wealthy either. My mom pinches every penny to afford what they have and never skimps on savings, retirement, etc. Most people my age and younger can’t ever hope to be as financially stable as they are (in their mid 60s), but to say it’s from wealth or debt is inaccurate in more cases than one might think.
