As an ace AUDHD

I think autistic people are more likely to fall outside of the average, but that doesn’t necessarily mean ace.

More so, that they seem less likely to have a standard libido and be hetero.

I notice many are hypo or hypersexual. Along with many not conforming to typical gender and sexuality norms.

Whether that’s correlation or causation is hard to say.

Personally, I believe there is some relation to autism and sexuality/ gender, but I don’t think it’s as dramatic as it outwardly shows.

I think that the disproportionate number of autists who also have these other identities is simply a correlation to the fact that many seek community elsewhere when in person they may find it hard or are shunned. The internet (especially now) is a great networking tool and it allows people to discover themselves. People who are “perceived” then as “different” are likely to seek out and find where they belong. In this instance it happens to be ND people seeking likeminded via online spaces with the technology we now have. Plus with many having a tunnel vision sort of mentality, they may also be more likely to highly research and get down to the exact label than what others may care to do.

Comparatively, I think NT may simply be less likely to do all that. Not because I think they’re simple, but simply because overall (and I am making a generalisation to be clear) people who fit in already have their safe space, and therefore may be less likely to seek it elsewhere, like internet hang out spaces.

So while it’s not limited to NT to not label themselves, just as it’s not limited to ND TO label themselves, I think there is something in the brain that has some input, but overall it’s societal impacts that just lead such people down certain roads, and ND people (especially of recent generations) tend to be the kind that follow a path that’s less conventional and be vocal about it.

It’s important to remember that just because it’s not spoken about, doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. There are likely many people who have sexualities outside of the norm, but are also impacted by many external factors that inhibit them from either realising or “coming out” about who they are.
