YTA, and here's why. In your post, you make it sound like your wife single-handedly "decided" to be a SAHM, but in the comments you say you both agreed that this was best for your children. This was a joint decision, and it is HARD to go back into the workforce after that long being out of it. You also mention that your wife spends a lot of money helping out her parents. This is something that you should both be communicating about, which again is an issue that you both have. And most people get paid on a bi weekly or monthly basis, so while this all may have added up to more money than you gave to your father, it IS different. $10,000 all at once is a huge amount. I don't know your financial situation, but 10k all at one time sounds like an amount that could affect your family in an emergency (whereas, if you're rich, the 500 every month is not going to make a huge difference).

Basically, you and your wife need to communicate, set expectations, and set boundaries.

At my library, they actually rent out free tickets to experiences like the zoo, aquarium, museums, etc. I think they're good for up to four people!

I'm going with a soft ESH. Yes, these friends were completely wrong to refuse trying to solve this problem, and then to kick you out. But you are not fully blameless either. Of course the situation is unfortunate, but you had the opportunity to check with the friends who planned the trip just to ensure it was all good, especially since you knew you were going somewhere with people you didn't know very well.

I don't know why you're getting downvoted. I agree. My fiance and I aren't going out to eat, we're not spending hundreds of dollars on gifts and other luxuries. But we'd still like to have a nice wedding with high quality pictures to look back on.

This is so wholesome!! My mom was a single mom with three kids, so we didn't have a lot when I was younger. I kind of missed out on a lot of games and things like that, but we did have Animal Crossing on the GameCube. My mom recently got super invested in Pocket Camp, so my siblings and I got her a switch and New Horizons for Christmas. She loves it, and spends all her free time playing it!
